Turkey Creek Golf Course
Played On 02/27/2024Good course for a last minute Hot Deal
Got on as a single with a $16 hot deal a half hour before the tee time. Paired with a group of three who couldn't have been nicer. Many courses were closed in the area because of wet conditions, but Turkey Creek held up nicely. For February golf in Northwest Indiana, could not have hoped for much better.
The Legends Golf Course at Parris Island
Played On 06/30/2019Special place to play
This was my second time making the trek to Parris Island. The first time we had to get out of our car and wait for it to be swept for bombs and whatnot. This time we just flashed ID and went right through. I know that sounds better, but it was a little disappointing. The only complaint I had was that the kitchen was closed when we walked in right at noon. The course was in great shape, wasn’t too busy and we were able to breeze around. There are plenty of tough holes mixed with scoreable ones. The real treat is the patriotism all over the facility. Playing alongside active duty Marines in their base is a great experience. I will always try to make sure I make a trip to Legends for at least one round when I’m down in the area.
Beechwood Golf Course
Played On 04/29/2018Sneaky tough course
I have played Beechwood many times over the last few years. It has improved each year, and they are currently redoing the clubhouse. Because of that, there was no food in the kitchen, which was a bummer when I was craving a hot dog at the turn. The course really looks like an easy one as you arrive, but there are all sorts of unique challenges, from narrow landing areas, to elevated greens, to small patches of water that you need to be aware of in advance. This really feels like a course I should score in the high 70's-low 80's, but I usually wind up sneaking into the 90's. Overall a fun challenge for a reasonable rate.
Sahm Golf Course
Played On 04/26/2018Fun course
If you are looking for a long challenging course, go elsewhere. Sahm is a great course for sneaking in a quick round and knocking off some rust. This an extremely scoreable course, with Par 5's that are reachable in 2 and a couple driveable par 4's. It is pretty cool to say you played Pete Dye's first 18-hole design, but don't expect it to be similar to his more recent layouts. Lots of open space, so despite short length, you can knock your driver around all day if you so please. About as good a value as you can find in the Indy area.
Patriots Point Golf Links
Played On 04/04/2018Quite a challenge
Our final round of golf on our trip did not disappoint! Patriots Point provided some of our most beautiful views of the trip, and definitely the most challenging golf. The wind was very tough, and we found ourselves constantly a club or two short. We got paired with a local who provided valuable knowledge as we worked around the course. Fairways were in average condition, but the greens were fantastic. Can't say I would pay full price, but a $42 hot deal was definitely worth it. My mid 90s round felt much more like mid 80s, which isn't really a negatively. Loved the course!
Golf Club At Wescott Plantation - Oak Forest Course
Played On 04/04/2018Gem!
This was our penultimate round on our Charleston/Hilton Head golf trip. Had we played here first we would have likely found time for another round or two. The clubhouse is an extremely cool plantation style building. The fairways were on par with the best we saw on the trip and the greens were fantastic! There were some definite risk reward holes and plenty of water to keep you off balance. Everyone was very helpful and they went out of their way to put our foursome together (we had to book two separate twosomes). This was a fantastic find and we will definitely be back in the future!!!
Golden Bear Golf Club at Indigo Run
Played On 04/02/2018Beautiful
Played a twighlight round at the Bear Club and had a blast. After seeing several area courses struggling with dead grass, the fairways were decent and the greens were phenomenal. The course was packed, but we were still able to get around in right at 4 hours. Our only disappointment was the clubhouse and bar being closed when we made the turn around 5:30, as we were both hungry and ready for a few more adult beverages. Outside of that, fantastic course!!!
The Club at Pine Forest
Played On 03/31/2018Rough winter
Opened our golf trip with a round here, mainly because of its proximity to the Charleston airport. The course wasn’t in its best shape, like many in the area, due to early warm weather, followed by freezing temps. Fairways and rough were both pretty dead, and some greens were beat up, but the surroundings are absolutely gorgeous. Took about 5 hours for our threesome to get around, but it was a very busy Saturday morning. The green complexes were difficult, but were very fun to play. I’m excited to get back to this course after some good weather and give it a proper test.
Maui Nui Golf Club
Played On 07/07/2016Best value on Maui
we booked this with a hot deal, and it was far and away the best deal we have found on Maui or Kauai! They staff was extremely kind and allowed us to tee off about a half hour early. Their GPS in the carts isn't as nice as others on the island, but it works consistantly and is useful. The course is in pretty solid shape, although there were a few greens that were a little rough. Most of the par 5s are reachable in two, but punish you if you miss in any direction. The par 3s are almost all guarded by sand traps, and the pin was typically tucked away behind one, again giving the risk reward option, go for the pin and pay for your sin or throw it in the middle. Overall great course with great value!
