Links golf as it should be!

We anxiously anticiapted our visit to N & P for months - of course praying for good weather and hoping our "A" games would be with us that day. From the booking experience (thanks Noleen and Karl) to the post-round pint of Guiness, we thoroughly enjoyed our day. N&P is a "must play" in the Donegal area. The course equally challenged our talents (handicaps from 8-32, husbands and wives) and our caddies entertained and coached (thanks Kevin, Frankie, Jerry and Owen). The course layout, conditiions and scenery were just as envisioned. Don't be pressured by the gallery (cattle) or afraid of the forced carries - Kevin and his team will find your ball everytime. Hats off to the owners, members and the Hanse/Wagner team for restoring such a links gem. So if you're headed to NW Ireland, book your team time and enjoy your day!

Traditional layout at it's best

If you want to play PGA tour quality greens, hit out of the best sand traps your ball has ever landed in or be treated by the staff like a long-time club member, book your tee time at Bullseye Golf Club. The course is what country club golf was designed to be in the 1920s. It is a fair and challenging test of golf. Straight drives, accurate approaches and deft putting skills are rewarded. Small greens are protected by bunker complexes with native river-bottom sand that's the best I've ever played out of. This is a layout that requires you to think through every shot and use every club in your bag. Great driving/practice range and a staff that welcomed us from the moment we called to make a reservation. If you're in the Wisconssin Rapids area and playing expansive, big, and recently-built courses, take the time to sharpen your shot-making skills and play a round at Bullseye. It will be a course you'll want to play again and again.

A great way to start your day

The 8:00 tee time was a bit early after yesterday's late afternoon round at the Lakes, but it was a great way to spend a morning with good friends. The pine tree -lined fairways get your attention right away. Straight drives are a must on this layout. The Lakes served as a good warm up for a more demanding and challenging Pines layout. Accuracy is rewarded into the greens too. Greens were faster and more undulating here than at the Lakes. If you think your putt breaks 3', it really breaks 6'. The course routing is similar to an out and back links routing. Get ready to play into the wind or into the sun for 9 holes, then the reverse for another 9 holes. It certainly makes you think through your approach off the tee and into well protected greens. Definately a step up in difficulty from Lakes to Pines, so plan your trip accordingly. So if your a bit tired of sand and wind, book a few rounds amongst the pines and lakes :-). You'll enjoy the change in scenery.

A great day on the links

Playing the Lakes was a great way to start a golf trip weekend. The fairways were wide and receptive to our foursome's varying skill levels. Accuracy off the tee is rewarded with easier approach shots to large greens.
The greens roll true and have more break to them than it first appears. The pro shop team was helpful in making tee times and the new restaurant was a great escape from sun and humidity. If you're playing both Lakes and Pines, start here first.

Golfing Fun!

If you're looking for an enjoyable golfing experience in the Holland, MI area, Pigeon Creek should be on your "must play" list. I've played the course several times (spring, summer, fall, early morning, midday, white tees, blue tees, etc.) and have enjoyed every time out. The turf conditions are always superb, the staff is friendly and the challenge level can be dialed up or down depending on tees played and daily wind conditions.

Playing this links-style course requires strategic thinking (navigating water and fescue hazzards), accurate shot making and patience. The course design is straight forward but will challenge you with strategically placed bunkers, narrow landing areas and a variety of pin placements. The greens roll true with subtle yet challenging breaks.

A great place to learn, play and enjoy the game of golf. "Hats off" to the Kuyers family for establishing a fun and friendly golfing experience!

Links Golf Fun!

One of my funnest golf days this summer! We scheduled a tee time based on Golf Advisor reviews and the course website. To be honest, both "under sell" the quality of the golf course.

This links-style course will challenge players of all levels depending on the tees played and the daily wind conditions. The layout is superb and the greens are their signature design element. The undulating greens can be a challenge for the beginner or high handicapper. while presenting a fair test for the golfer who wants a short-game challenge. Greens roll true and are fast. Consider them a "taste of Augusta National" in southwest Michigan.

The staff was friendly and welcoming - very reflective of this family-owned golfing gem. The quality of the course and value it offers in the South Haven area is unmatched. It's definitely a "must play again" on my list of SW Michigan courses.
