I’m convinced the difficulty rating is based on how bad the course conditions are. The layout itself is nothing special, but I had to move my ball nearly every hole to prevent damaging my clubs on gravel and rock.

Played On 06/20/2020Slowwwwww pace of play and rough fairways on a fairly uninteresting course. Greens are well-maintained and the staff is friendly. To give you an idea how slow the course was, the guys in front of us brought folding chairs, and used them on every hole. Solid driving range that wasn’t crowded even on a Saturday, though, so it’s worth it to come for a quick bucket of balls.

Played On 06/11/2020Great course for practicing your midgame
As others have said, this is a great executive course for practicing your mid game. Greens are well-maintained (and purposely tricky). Fairways are a little rougher. Rough is very rough. The course is worth playing for the back 9 alone, which use the full potential of the canyon to create challenging hazards and hole layouts. Staff is friendly and helpful. Pace of play is about typical for LA public courses. I’ll definitely be playing here again!
Monterey Park Golf Course
Played On 06/09/2020Best 9 hole on the east side
This is a public course that plays like a private one. It’s well-maintained, the staff are friendly, and it has better-than-most-LA-courses pace of play. More importantly though, the layout, with starting and ending Par 4’s, deep rough, rolling greens, and cannily-placed sand traps, forces you to think strategically about ball placement. My game has improved on all other courses just playing this course once a week.
