Very impressive!

This was the first time playing Laurel View in nearly two years. The last time I played it, they were in the early stages of making renovations, which were badly needed. This course had been neglected and in disarray for years. When I drove up there this past Friday, I was blown away! Major tree work was done! It was totally unrecognizable and looked like a brand new course. The clubhouse has been upgraded and they were in the final stages of putting in a brand new driving range. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were in great shape. Many of the sand traps were redone. Absolutely loved what they did!!! Unfortunately, I only got to play 13 holes, as heavy rain, wind and thunder made it impossible to play the final five holes. I was impressed with what I saw so far. They are still doing a lot of work, so don’t expect it to be visually pristine just quite yet. By next year at this time, I can guarantee this will be the “Hidden Gem of CT.” Very happy for everyone involved with the revitalization project of Laurel View. Great job and I definitely look forward to playing this course again this year.

Great layout

First time playing the course in 15 years. What a nice layout! Played with two golfers who play the course regularly. This helped big time, because there are a ton of blind shots, funky, sloping fairways and large greens. Played okay, but feel like not really remembering the course cost me more than a few shots. Will book again in the fall when the foliage begins to change. So picturesque and they do a great job involving the bodies of water in the layout. Wonderful and inviting staff!

My favorite course

Absolutely love this course! I play it as much as I can. This is my favorite course. Fantastic layout and a wonderful challenging course, especially from the black tees. One of the best public courses in CT. Wish golfers fixed ball marks on greens and raked the sand traps. If golfers keep this course in great shape, this will be without a doubt the gem of CT.

Favorite course

I’ve played this course 5 times this year and just got a gift card for my birthday. Love this course!!! Excellent layout that is not real forgiving. Played from the blue tees, which is a real challenge. Haven’t tried the black yet. My only complaint is that the course really needs to enforce the fixing of divots on tee boxes and ball marks on the greens. These greens are unbelievably nice and challenging, however they are littered with ball marks. I find that I fix 5-10 of them per hole. Tee boxes are getting dug up too. I know it is because of Covid, but seed/soil mix would be nice on carts and tee boxes. Other than that, I definitely will be back. Definitely my favorite course and it is the hidden gem in CT!!!

Best course in the area

Absolutely love this course! It was the second time playing it this week. Course for the most part is in great condition. Tee boxes are a little banged up and the fairways are patchy in some areas. Greens are unbelievable and pin placements could make or break your round. Wish people fixed the ball marks on these spectacular, slick greens. Found myself repairing a bunch of them on every green. The layout is one of the best in the state. There are no adjacent holes and you never see anyone except the group in front of you and behind you. Wonderful setting for golf. The price to play a course is definitely reasonable. Setting up a tee time again for Monday. Just an absolute gem of a course. Without a doubt, my favorite course to play!!!

Nice but aerated greens ruined the round

Been playing Whitney for years. Course is in very nice shape. Before booking through the GolfNow website, I wish we were told that greens were just aerated. The amount of sand on the greens really made it not a good experience. To pay summer prices for these conditions was not right, especially on a weekday. I’m sure the course will be nice in two weeks, but until then, I would steer clear until the greens fill in or you get a GolfNow Hot Deal.

Course in great condition

I really enjoy Oak Lane! The course is in great condition, for the most part (tee boxes are a little torn up). Other than that, for a public course, this is top of the class. Real nice practice facility complete with grass range. Greens are like putting on glass (Note: stay below the hole). Definitely, like that the course is 5 minutes away from my house. Will be back soon.

Hidden gem in CT

Played Timberlin Golf Club for the first time in 15-plus years. What a wonderful course!!! Haven’t played it in years because it is a hike from where I live. However, I got a GolfNow Hot Deal, which made it worth the drive. The course has a wonderful, scenic layout. Course is in great condition and it was nice to see workers out there improving the condition of Timberlin. Sand traps were in perfect condition. I should know because I probably found at least 8 of them. I need to play the course on a calmer day. Had crazy weather that ushered in 30 MPH wind gusts, downpours and then sun, back to rain and blustery wind. It was almost like British Open weather. However, I will definitely be back, Hot Deal or not. Totally worth the drive! Great job!!!

What happened?

Laurel View used to be a hidden gem in CT. I played the course many times and absolutely loved the layout. Both 9’s offered totally different challenges. However, I could not believe what happened to this course. I knew something was up, when I booked a Hot Deal on Golf Now for $13 (18 holes, cart included). I felt like I was robbing the place. The course has gone downhill significantly. From a bare bones pro shop, to a closed restaurant, to a range reminiscent of the movie Tin Cup, this course needs major help. The positive is the layout. Great challenging course, with greens that roll surprisingly very true, despite the look. Now the bad. There is very little sand in bunkers and they are very neglected. I saw one rake on the whole course. Ponds and lakes have so much algae, you may actually be able to walk on them and play your ball from the hazard. In the good ol’ days they had fountains to keep water moving. There are ball washers with no water, cart paths with more holes than I-95 and no water coolers for drinking water. Fairways and tee boxes are mediocre at best. Wish I had money to buy the course to revamp it. Would love this course to get revived. I don’t want to see it go down the path of Woodbridge CC. For the price, it was worth playing. However, I would love to see it get back to the glory days over the next couple of years and pay $40-50 for 18. Hopefully, it will be done because this can once again can be a hidden gem of CT with some TLC. Good luck!
