Looking forward to the future!

I've lived in southeastern NC since the 1990s, and I knew the course by reputation under its old name, but I had never played the course. I also knew it had fallen into a state of disrepair and wasn't shocked it closed last march. The guys at Ironclad Brewery have done an amazing job since purchasing the course in June of 2020! The layout is stellar, the amenities they are building toward are going to be epic- draft beer on the driving range, a beer garden and more! The new owners have put in a lot of work to begin making this course a true gem in the Wilmington area! Greens were smooth and fast, a few still needed some work on the back 9... but May was extremely dry for us and they just opened the back 9 in April. We are definetly looking forward to regular visits and to see what they do over the next few years! I am pretty sure Ironclad Golf and Beer Garden will be worth anyone's trip!

The only recommendation I have-- a beer management system! All the beers are draft and from their own brewery. Without cans or bottles you have to purchase all your cups on your wait out. I'd recommend renting or checking out growlers were patrons can pay for the beer and then have it readily available on the course!

On my top 5 in ENC list!

Live in Jacksonville, NC... Wife, daughter and I played today! The girls shoot between a 95-110. I'm a mid-80s golfer. This course was great for the whole family! It offered an acceptable level of challenge, the greens roll fast and true! The elevation change is great fun considering how many courses in our area are flat or have man made changes (that just aren't as fun as the natural terrain). This course is right up there with Cutter Creek in Ayden, and the price is phenomenal! The interesting mix of six par 3s and five par 5s is great and really allows for scoring if you play it well off the tee! We plan to go back at least monthly!

Great course! Planning on playing again soon!

My father and I played 18 holes here yesterday, the course was recommended to us from a friend so we drove up from Jacksonville to check it out! Well worth the drive and money! The course layout is moderately challenging, with plenty of risk and reward shots! The greens are well tended... they bite well with a high approach shot, yet lower trajectory shots and putts can be fast. It was very interesting dynamic! The amenities were amazing too-- cooler provided for beer, draft and cans! I also liked that there were a seperate set of childrens tees. My daughter will appreciate that! going back soon!

Shadow of its past...

I have lived in the area since 1991. I was pretty stoked to see BBGC has a hot deal last night on golfnow.com. The course has always had a great reputation for being a quality golf course, well worth its advertised $50 rate. When you enter Brandywine Bay the neighborhood (gated community) is on par with what you would expect from courses in the $50 + range. Pristine lawns, beautiful homes... but the course itself is in a state of disrepair. When you enter the clubhouse you would think they were having a "Going Out of Business" sale. Very few amenities. Beer is overpriced for the area at $2.50 individual or $13.00 a 6-pack. Many surrounding area courses you will pay $10-$12.

The front-9 is in terrible shape. most of the ponds have grass and weeds that were stomach to chest high. The rough hadn't been mowed in a few weeks to look at some of the knee high grass (the wild stuff... the Bermuda was thick and difficult, perfect acceptable there). A lot of fairways in eastern NC are naturally watered, so I was a little taken back by the brown and dry state of their fairways in places. The greens on the front-9 are bare, bumpy, and just generally in bad form. Wild bermuda grass grows through out the edges of the sand traps. There is no pave cart path for most of the front-9... just follow the 8 inch deep duel ruts around the place.

The back-9 the greens improved considerably. The fairways and rough maintained their neglected state. It is sad because the course layout is challenging and it could be a great experience.

The course recently changed ownership and management in July of 2014... I would be willing to give it another go next summer. Had I paid even $30 I would have been angry. There are plenty of better kept courses in the area in the $30 price range. I definitely wouldn't pay full price here anytime soon.

Can't beat the value!

Rock Creek is a great course with an amazing community to play with! Many of my friends who I bring to the course comment on the narrow tee shots and the fast rolling greens! It is a naturally watered course so at certain times of the year the fairways can be a little rough. This summer the course is playing the best I have seen it in half a decade!

The staff is great! Ricky and Mike will do anything they can to help you have an enjoyable round!

Great Course... I want to retire in this community!

This course was a blast to play! It weaves in and out of a very hilly neighborhood and then the back 9 progresses through the mountain valley. Beautiful views of the surrounding mountains, some tough tee shots and the smoothest greens I have ever putted! My only concern was that the greens were so soft any approach shot was sure to not only cause a dent, but blow out little chunks of green. This is on my "must play" list every time I come to Knoxville!

Want to come back!

From reading the card I knew this was one of Knoxville's oldest courses. It has an interesting layout where the entire course is contained in a fence, clubhouse is catty corner to the course. When we played they had cut temporary greens about 150 yds short of original greens which made this course super easy. Due to the ruggedness of the greens we played a two putt rule. The greens they are building look fantastic though and I really want to come back when they are in. Signage at the clubhouse says greens should be open for play in September, I plan on coming back in the spring to try them out!
