Marysville Golf Club

I used a Hot Deal on the website and paid $25 total. For that price, this course is a bargain. The front nine is the original nine and has tree-lined fairways and challenging, severely-sloped greens (back to front). The fairways and greens were in very good shape. The back nine is the newer nine and has fewer trees but more OB. It is still a challenge with forced carries on several holes, two long par 3s, hard doglegs, and some two-tiered greens. I played on a cold, windy weekday so there were not many other players.

Easy to get to off of Rt 33. Parking lot is close to the clubhouse. Golf carts were clean and well-maintained. Driving range had balls available for free and the range is conveniently located near the first tee. This makes a lot of sense. Greens were in good shape other than number 11 which is recovering from a year ago. Fairways are wide and well-maintained. Links-type grass is high and thick but usually there is a buffer of rough before reaching the high grass. We played the white tees and the course plays shorter than the yardage on the scorecard. There are several forced carries on the tee shot as well as shots to the green.

The golf course continues to improve as the newer holes become mature. #1 tee is still not open so the hole is very short. The greenkeeping staff works hard to keep it in good shape and are courteous when working whenever they are near. A cart is a must because several holes have 1/8 to 1/4 mile distances from green to the next tee. I had a 7:40am tee time and the starter put me in a foursome. There were no groups in front of us, so I asked him to let me go early to get around more quickly. He said "no". We had two twosomes behind us. One twosome played through, the other pushed us for most of the round. 4 hour & 15 minute round because the rough was fairly high and we looked for a few shots on the front nine. Flexibility by the starter would have been a better strategy for pace of play. Nice chipping and putting areas near the #1 tee.

Given the rainy weather, the course was in super shape. We were permitted to have carts with 90º rule. Starter let us go early because no one else was on the tee in the morning. New clubhouse is nearing completion. Pro Shop is currently running out of the cart barn.

The course is in great shape. The greens run true and can be very fast. Water comes into play on 4 holes on the back 9. The grounds crew is very friendly and works hard. The clubhouse group is always friendly and will do what they can to accommodate your schedule for the day. Two putting greens with chipping permitted are excellent for practice. The driving range is irons only but has a target green and sand trap off to the side.
National Road Golf Course
Played On 07/03/2015Cheap Golf
We thought we were playing National Links in South Vienna. We weren't. So, we made the best of it. Greens are small and strongly mounded with strong grain. Made it difficult to get approach shots close, even when less than 75 yards away because the mounding limited landing area (good practice). Course had a few legitimate length par 4s and some very short par 4s. We walked the front nine because all the carts were being used. For $10, it is hard to complain. Wouldn't do it again. But, the course was very different than what we are used to and that was refreshing.

Our foursome teed off at 1pm and hardly saw anyone on the course. Leagues began later in the afternoon. If you can play during the day, this course is beautiful and challenging. Greens were firm and fast.

Golfers of every level can be appropriately challenged. This course has a 124 slope from the white tees and 134 from the blues. Given the extremely wet weather, the course was in very good shape. With 4 Central Ohio courses closing, many Central Ohio golfers will begin to realize how good this course is.

Played On 06/18/2014Played Front Nine Twice
Easy drive from Columbus. No traffic in the morning. Course was in good shape but play was very slow. We played the front 9 twice to avoid a very slow back 9. No foursomes in front of us. Yet, play was still slow.

Played On 11/10/2013Prepping for winter. Leaves made it hard to find the ball. Very good value.
Very good value. Smaller greens that are really sloped from front to back. Lots of practice getting up and down.

Played On 7/24/2013Multiple risk-reward decisions makes this course fun.
Fairways in great shape. Well-kept, undulating greens that reward good shots and challenges poor shots. Un-repaired ball marks reflect on the golfers rather than the grounds crew. Traps had standing water from recent rains, but that was expected.

Outstanding practice facility, including unbelievably smooth putting green. Course was great. Tee boxes offers a variety of experiences for any level.

Played On 6/7/2013Every hole is a challenge. No throwaways.
Greens are the fastest I've played this year and in very good shape. Challenging driving course because there is water or OB on almost every hole, although the landing areas are fairly generous. Definitely need a cart b/c there are long green to tee distances.
Phoenix Golf Links
Played On 5/9/2013I like the balance of risk/reward on this course. Rewards good shots with scoring opportunities and penalizes bad shots.
First time playing the course. The long grass and heather is not too bad. It definitely helps to know where it is because a shot in the deep stuff is probably a lost ball.
I would recommend a hole by hole diagram of where the heavy stuff is because one really needs to avoid it like it is "out-of-bounds". A lost ball has the same penalty as OB.
HI there and thank you for playing Darby Creek as well as reviewing our golf course! We are happy to hear you enjoyed the course as much as we do. See you on your next round!
