Great course, no water available is crazy

This was my first time on the course as we were in the area for a family vacation and my son and I sneak away for a round each year on the trip.

Positives: Staff was very friendly. Cart was brought to our car in the parking lot before we had even shut off the engine. Very helpful staff to navigate around. Pro shop and bar staff were great to talk with. When our fourth showed up, he was driven down to the practice area, which is not a long walk, but it was a nice helping touch from the staff. I loved the layout. We are from a flat area, so I enjoy the challenges of elevation changes and blind shots. Many of the holes offered a spot to miss, with slopes down to the green or the fairway. If you ended up on the wrong side, in a bunker, you were in trouble. I loved that need to think your way around. Greens were in great shape. This course is not walkable. It's probably half a mile from the ninth green to 10 tee. Then even longer from the 18th green back to the clubhouse.

Negatives: No discount for a junior golfer was a little disappointing. Tee sheet was nearly full for a Wednesday, so they obviously don't need to bring additional play with the discount. We played on a day when it was 95 degrees and humid and were shocked there was not drinking water on the course. I believe there were stands for the jugs to go in (definitely in the practice area), but they were empty. I can't imagine a good reason to not have water available at any point in the summer, particularly on such a hot day.

The best in Ocean City

If you are playing golf in Ocean City, you must play Rum Pointe. I host a golf weekend with a few friends each year. I try to take them to different courses for all of our four rounds, but we all insist that we MUST play Rum Pointe every year! The course is always in phenomenal shape. While the rack rate is pricey, you cannot beat $49 for the twilight, which begins at 2 pm. We've often played mid-to-late afternoon on a Saturday and have never had an issue getting around in four hours. The staff is amazing and friendly, the course offers some challenging holes, but the conditions and the views are what will keep you coming back. Views of the bay and Assateague Island from nearly the entire course, and I've never known any other facility that I've played to always be in ideal conditions. Some will tell you that Lighthouse Sound (owned by the same company and also a great track) is better, but I will put Rum Pointe as the best of many great courses in the Ocean City area.

Nice course, but better available in OC

We played on a Saturday morning, so you couldn't expect a quick round. But we were waiting on nearly every shot. I had seen other reviews about the rangers being hard on slow play, and the first time we were approached, I assumed we would all be yelled at for not going fast enough. I was pleasantly surprised, the ranger was understanding that it was a slow day, and there wasn't much any of us could do about it. We were very disappointed, and it certainly led to the slow play, that it was cart paths only. there were one or two very wet areas, that probably could have been marked off, or kept on the paths for those holes, but it didn't seem at all necessary to be path only the entire way around. The starter was very friendly, and helpful before we got started. There is no clubhouse as they have leveled it and are rebuilding. Only port-o-johns near the start, but actually facilities on the course. New clubhouse is still a year away, according to one staff member. Food was not available for purchase on this Saturday, which was disappointing. The design is nice, using the water to make for some exciting approach shots. A few blind shots and tricky dog legs. There is no GPS or pictures on the scorecard, which makes it tricky, though they do have an app for your phone to download and use GPS for free. Green complexes are relatively flat. Living 40 minutes away, I'm not going to drive to Ocean Pines just to play there, but it was a decent course.

Thank you so much for sharing your honest feedback, Tim. We're sorry to hear you experienced slow play, which is frustration for every golfer. Our marshals definitely work hard to keep play moving along, especially when we're cart-path only, which unfortunately is sometimes unavoidable. Our new clubhouse is slated to be completed sometime in the spring - we're very much looking forward to moving out of our temporary accommodations! We hope make the drive over from Salisbury and play us again.

Great improvements

I played this course as part of a tournament, but having played on a regular basis, it is a great value, particularly if you are local and get one of the local cards. The course was in the best shape I've seen it in years, and for early in the summer the greens were rolling quite fast and true. Two temporary tees were in use, as two holes are being lengthened from par 4's to par 5's. The adjustment to the soon-to-be par 5 seventh hole, will make it a great hole. Only thing I have not liked about this course is that there is not a cheaper option to walk. It's an easy walking course, but no financial benefit to do so.

Great course

This is one of my favorite courses on the Eastern Shore. The staff is always wonderfully inviting, and the course was in great shape. The greens were lightning fast! It was a little slow at times, and a course of this quality and cost should have GPS systems in the carts.
