Glengarry Golf Links
Played On 08/30/2023Peace, Be Still
Wonderful views, a tranquil setting, and a well-maintained golf course combine for a good experience at Glengarry. The fairways and greens were in excellent shape, though I’d prefer the latter to be faster. The greens weren’t slow and they were consistent, so that’s really not a read to downgrade the experience. The traps were also in good shape - plenty of fine sand and well-raked even though I was the first one off the first tee in the morning. The first cut of rough is a little too deep in my view. The ball disappears, and without spotters common on the pro tours, balls that don’t find the fairway off the driver as often as not become lost balls or at the least slow play down considerably. Still, Glengarry remains one of my favorite courses!
Irwin Country Club
Played On 05/27/2020Cow pasture with greens
The title of the review says it all, those the chorus was in the best condition I’ve ever seen it in. Plus, instead of the usual 5+ hours to play, we played in 3 1/2 hours.
The Club At Blackthorne
Played On 05/13/2020Disappointing
I expected this course to be in top notch shape. It isn’t! Bunkers (sand?) are uncared for. Greens are slow and have just been aerated. The gravel caret paths are extremely uneven and a rough ide. To be fair, the fairways are in excellent shape.
Butler's Golf Course - Woodside Course
Played On 05/12/2020A tough walk
If you aren’t in shape, this course is a tough walk. It’s a nice layout, but hilly, with particularly tough climbs on the back nine. The corse is in fine condition despite the rain the last few weeks. The greens are a tad slow.
Lakeview Golf Resort & Spa - Mountainview
Played On 04/20/2020Tricky, still a treat.
The course was challenging and interesting, just not taken care of the way it should be. The fairways were fine, but Sand traps are uncared for - not raked or even weeded in some instances. No distance markets. There were 150 markers, but all were lying on the ground. Greens were in decent shape, except for one. The carts need to be wiped down before each use. They were not. Many were muddy and many ran poorly. The girl in the club house was great - cheerful, helpful, We saw no other staff in the clubhouse. We were just glad to get in some golf. All PA course are closed.
Glengarry Golf Links
Played On 10/30/2019Early morning round
I teed off at 7:30. Other than having to deal with five or six yet unswept greens, I had a fantastic time. As usual, the vistas were beautiful, and the course was in great shape.
Totteridge Golf Course
Played On 10/29/2019The best, yet!
I love this course! Challenging layout; fast greens; sweeping vistas. And they FINALLY have lots of sand in the traps and they were raked!! I just wish they hadn’t changed their practice range practices!!
Meadowink Golf Course
Played On 10/21/2019Peanuts, anyone?
Good course. Just annoying to have to deal with aeration issues: clay “peanuts” on the fairway so no rolll or the pinball effect; and the worker keeping his Aeration machine in the center of the fairway running and waving us to just hit over him. He was out about 150. Then later circling us as we hit our next shots. Distracting. Other than that, everything else was peachy keen. Greens were in great shape. The course has to be aerated, but it’d be nice if they’d let you know ahead of time and maybe take a couple of bucks off the fees.
Birdsfoot Golf Club
Played On 10/11/2019Disappointed
I usually love playing birdsfoot. That was not the case this time. Although it was a beautiful day, I don’t appreciate putting on a practice green which is lightning fast and well manicured and then getting out on the course and finding that all greens have been aerated and are slow and bumpy.. I understand the need to aerate the greens,, but players should at least be warned and prices should be docked a couple of bucks anyway just to encourage people to play anyway. Disappointing, to say the least. Other than that In Greenwich need more sand, the course was in great shape.

Played On 10/03/2019Morning at peace
I always love playing around early in the morning at Glengarry. it’s beautiful, the course is in great shape, particularly the greens, and the pace of play is fantastic. I generally finish in less than 2 1/2 hours without rushing.
Rolling Fields Golf Club
Played On 09/26/2019No way 4 Stars!
The golf club owners or operators must be writing their own reviews. There is no way anyone objective gave this course four stars. The fairways are like cow pastures that have been landscaped by goats. They are patchy and rough. Of course, next to the cart paths , they are a smooth Parkway. If you had back problems, you would be on your way to the chiropractor or the emergency room after you’re around. If you didn’t have back problems, you will have them when you’re finished. All the ground is hard as a rock. The greens, although very green, are hard as granite. I put several good shots into greens that bounced at least 10 feet in the air, and then bounded merrily off the back. Not a ball mark yo be seen anywhere. ( I guess that is a good thing! ) No green would hold any shot at all. Additionally, they are unbelievably slow. It is very difficult to make yourself hit the ball hard enough to get it to the hole, even on a downhill putt. In addition, the distance markers are way, way off. The hundred yard markers are somewhere between 60 and 70 yards away from the center of the green. Some of the 150s were close to accurate, but most were not. The course has a lot of promise, but right now the main thing I would say that deserves four stars , Or rather the only thing that deserves four stars, is a very nice clubhouse and a very friendly staff.

Champion Lakes Golf Course
Played On 09/19/2019It’s all about the challenge
Fast greens with tricky pin placements. Beautiful fairways with strategically placed traps. Just enough water to make it interesting. And spectacular vistas. Worth every penny.
Lenape Heights Golf Course
Played On 09/17/2019A good challenge
The course is well-maintained. The greens are undulating and true and roll smoothly, though I think they could be much faster. The sand traps are filled with fine white sand which is well-maintained.
I just do not like hole number nine and hole number 17. They are not up to par.
Lenape Heights Golf Course
Played On 09/12/2019Always a pleasure
As usual, the course was in great shape. I had the first tee time so I breezed through 18 holes in two and a half hours. I do wish the greens were a little faster. I also Wish that the sand traps would be raked. There is plenty of sand.
Pittsburgh National Golf Club
Played On 07/31/2019Okay to play
A little short. Fairways in good shape. Greens a tad slow, but ball rolled well and true. The guy in charge was a bit annoying.
Brown Deer Golf Club
Played On 07/19/2019Short, but challenging
Only played the back 9. Course was packed despite 98 degree heat. Layout forced you to play smart. A couple of par threes too short. Greens were fast! (I like that!). Fairways were beautiful. Traps could use more sand, but they were ok and well maintained.
Latrobe Elks Golf Club
Played On 07/17/2019Fast greens; manicured traps
The title says it all! The Latrobe Elks golf course offer is an excellent challenge on a well-maintained course for a very good price. I love the fast greens and the challenge offered by the long part threes and some tight fairways. The course is fair , but challenging.
The Madison Club
Played On 07/12/2019Nice day in the course
This course is one of my favorites in the Pittsburgh area. As usual, the fairways are in great shape and the greens Road true. The one disappointment was the sand traps, which were full of water and untouched. This is somewhat understandable due to the torrential rains the day before. However, I think a top-notch place would have better drainage in the traps, more sand, and a priority for getting them ready for play as soon as the rain is stopped. I still recommend the course. I love the layout, the challenge, and the pace of play. I was also pleasantly surprised by the price on a Friday morning which was $33 for a senior with a cart
Glengarry Golf Links
Played On 07/10/2019Not up to par
This is one of my favorite courses: but, today things weren’t up to the high standards to which they usually hold themselves. I’m guessing the weather lately would be the excuse. The greens are usually very, very fast. Today they were slow. You had to make yourself pound the ball to get it to the hole. The traps were in poor shape. Many had not been touched in days. The fairways, however, were in great shape. and the course layout offers a good challenge and spectacular vistas. The staff was, as usual, super friendly and eager to please.
Totteridge Golf Course
Played On 07/03/2019The beach it’s not!
Except for their sand traps, this course is excellent. The fairways and greens are in great shape, though the greens were not as fast as usual. (They were still much faster than the those of the average course. ). And, of course the layout allows for some great vistas. However, the sand traps remain a work in progress. Most have nowhere near enough sand and drainage is a problem in many.
What changed at the practice range?
