Vidanta Vallarta Course at Vidanta Nuevo Nayarit-Vallarta
Played On 01/02/2018New Layout
Jan 2, 2018 was the re-routing of the two courses at Vidanta and as such we got to play the 5 brand-new holes incorporated into the Norman routing.
Caddies are required which was good in finding the new holes, course conditions were great especially on the new holes. There was some invasive grasses they were taking care of but nothing that hindered play. The layout of this course is forgiving off the tee and painful around the greens. Hitting and sticking greens is difficult but that was also part of the fun of this course. Would play here many times over.
Vista Vallarta Golf Club - The Nicklaus Course
Played On 12/31/2017Hidden Dangers
The name, Vista Vallarta, is exact in the location of the course and the views available. This is very much a course with elevation changes in relation to other courses in the area. One key feature of this layout is the hazards off the tee, many of which are not visible from the tee. The starter was helpful and explained the first hole in detail but further into the round there was some other instances where course knowledge would have helped. The conditions were great with the greens being very true and holding an approach shot relatively well.
Note we played on a holiday (NYE) and the course was closing at 4pm. No notification was given of this (1:30pm hot deal) but luckily we showed up early enough to start around 12:30 and complete in time.
The Nayar Course at Vidanta Nuevo Nayarit-Vallarta
Played On 12/28/2017First Round, Last of this Layout
Take note that the layout of this course is changing January 2, 2018 as some holes are retired to allow for expansion (pictures are of holes which will remain).
The course condition is great and the rate, compared to others around it, is well worth it.
The caddy I had knew the course layout well and the yardages to hazards almost exactly. Fairly good with green reading assistance and always wanting to take your clubs from you. I rarely golf with a caddie but I thoroughly enjoyed this one.
Marina Vallarta Golf Club
Played On 12/24/2017Christmas Eve Golf
The course is in good shape with signs of good maintenance. We seen some crocodiles and iguanas which were never a risk. Golfing on a holiday they made a courtesy call a day early to say they were closing at 4pm and if we wished to play 18 they would fit us in early enough to do so (original tee time was 1:30). The course is challenging for never being there, a few blind hits but nothing that made me dislike the course. My only request would be a course map!

Played On 10/31/2016Immaculate Conditions
This place was better than expected. Driving up you could see the conditions of the course were going to be something special, and they were. Very well manicured, you couldn't tell that overseed had just finished. The greens were running around a 12 and made it very interesting to putt sometimes. Would recommend this course to anyone as even those who do not golf much would enjoy a round here.
Las Sendas Golf Club
Played On 10/29/2016Still My Favourite
Played this course 3 times in 4 days and the conditions were great. Overseed has come in well and the grounds crew is continuously improving as the growth allows. Greens are slower than normal but by no means shaggy or unplayable. Go for a round here, you wont be disappointed.
Lee Creek Valley Golf Course
Played On 09/24/2016Nice Layout, Not Ideal Conditions
I played this course for the first time after being told a few times of how nice of a place it is. I can see the potential this course has but my visit was hindered by construction and recent maintenance.
First of all they are repairing the creek bank which will improve any future flooding possibilities but there were large mud tracks all over the course and the 18th hole was changed from a Par 5 to a Par 3 to accommodate. Second the greens were punched, first one in the area that I know of, and it hindered the experience as well.
I will return to this course when its in its prime, but I want to know the conditions before I arrive.
(Note there was a $10 discount for the punching of the greens but nothing was mentioned when booking of the construction)

Played On 08/11/2016Hidden Gem - I want to go back!
The course labels itself the hidden gem of Southern Alberta and I would definitely have to agree. I knew nothing about this course before someone told me about it and I am glad I was able to make it out there. I would like to return since I now have some course knowledge and would play a couple holes differently, still scored well and loved the greens. A must play in the area
Silvertip Golf Course
Played On 08/06/2016Great Course - Not RCGA Certified?!
First of all, beautiful course. Its a great challenge and great scenery. The greens were nice and fast and rolled true on each and every hole. The fairways were great and the rough was a challenge but nothing unbearable. We had a bit of rain so slightly soggy but nothing that took away from the round.
My biggest drawback on this course is the slope and rating is not recognized by Alberta Golf or the RCGA, which means you cannot enter a score when playing at this course. I love to try new courses but the reason I do is so that my handicap is more accurate and not just from one club. For such a beautiful and well recognized course I have no idea why they cant produce a recognized slope and rating.
Dakota Dunes Golf Links
Played On 07/23/2016Great Canadian Links Course
I cannot compare to east-coast links courses but as far as a prairie links course goes this one is by far the best. The layout is challenging but still entices you to go for it on a couple of holes. We had a mixture of sun and rain followed by the wind. I cant imagine a full 18 in the wind at this course as even a sunny day has its challenges.
Stay after your round for a bite to eat at the brand new clubhouse and even try your luck at the neighboring casino. A quick drive from 'toon town that is worth it every time!
Paradise Canyon Golf Resort
Played On 07/07/2016Great Layout, Little Expensive
I played this course for the first time. First of all the conditions are perfect and the difficulty is just right for the low to mid-handicapper. A couple of birdies and of course a triple to screw things up.
I did the twilight rate and $60 with a cart was a little steep but I had to try it. I would do the twilight again as its simply the cheapest way to play this great course and you can easily get 18 holes in mid week starting at 5 or 6pm. I would, though, have a hard time paying full price on the weekends.
The Canal at Delacour Golf Club
Played On 06/12/2016Good Links Challenge
This is my third time on this course over the years and although I don't come often I do always enjoy the place. It is a traditional links course with some long rough and a few water hazards. If you can keep it in the fairway you can score well, go in the rough and you've done well with a double.
The course can be expensive on the weekend but its location and comparison to other courses just east of Calgary its worth the rate.
Strathmore Golf Club
Played On 05/15/2016My Regular Stop
I've played here many many times as it is the closest to home. The course this year got an early start and has been benefiting from it ever since. Conditions on the greens are something you would normally see in June or July, the fairways are almost 100%, minus 2 notorious problem holes, but by no means does it affect play.
The biggest asset of this course is its greens, if you like fast hard greens this is the place.
Would recommend this course to anyone.
Las Vegas Golf Center
Played On 03/08/2016Range Only - Great Value
I only played the range in order to kill some time before the airport but it was great value as rentals and an extra large bucket of balls (which is actually 2 large buckets) was only $35. Luckily we were both lefties and could share one set of rentals. A good way to spend an hour in the afternoon if you've spent your last dime on the strip.
I would return
Las Sendas Golf Club
Played On 02/07/2016Breezy Morning Round
This has to be one of my favorite courses in the area. Although it is challenging with its blind lines on a few holes, it is in great shape and rivals many of the fully private course in the area. It is much better than its neighbor, Red Mountain Ranch, in both conditions and overall atmosphere.
My round was rushed as I was headed to the airport but playing as a threesome and following right behind two groups of 4 we still got our round done in under 4 hours.
Although breezy, the best score I've got here in over 15 rounds
