Indian Trail Golf Course
Played On 08/27/2016Older Course with a Great Back Nine
This is an older course. The course conditions show that for both better and worse. In regard to the better, the layout is nice and the back nine is beautiful. The course has a decent amount of water in play and a couple of hidden water areas so pay attention to the hole layout marker at the tee boxes. Elevation is present, so expect to play from uneven lies on occasion. From the tees you can play a variety of clubs for position from the fairway. I really enjoyed the views of the course and developed course conditions on the back nine. Fairways were well maintained overall with normal issues for this time of year, the rough is fair and you can find your ball. My greatest concern with the course was the conditions of the greens. Simply put, they're old and showing their age. Green speed was very slow with sponge like turf on some of them. Some of the greens had dead turf on the playing surface. The tee boxes and bunkers were well maintained for the most part. Super friendly staff, but not much to offer at the clubhouse. Range was ok, but turf not maintained to fairway height and the ground was not level. Super fast play for a Saturday afternoon as I finished 18 right around two hours. This is one of those courses that you would love to see in better condition. If you just want to experience a leisurely afternoon of golf on a different layout, give it a try.
Mission Inn Resort & Club - Las Colinas Course
Played On 12/29/2015Excellent Florida Course
We played Las Colinas in the morning and El Campeon in the afternoon. We were the second group off so pace of play was no problem. Greeters, pro shop staff and starter were very friendly. This is a typically golf Florida golf course in excellent condition. The holes are isolated from each other mixed throughout a residential area. Very interesting course with friendly landing areas from the tee box. The pro did warn us the course plays half a club longer and there was a mystery wind above the trees... he was most certainly right. Many of the holes stand out, but the 15th par 3 was a beast. From the 16th tee box, there is a hidden water hazard beyond the sand traps on the short dog leg right hole. Very enjoyable round especially if you play both courses which is recommended.
Mission Inn Resort & Club - El Campeon Course
Played On 12/29/2015Absolutely Stunning!
El Campeon is a must play golf course. Designed in 1918, it has stood the test of time and will deliver an incredible golf experience. Greeters, pro shop staff and starter were all outstanding. Knickers restaurant served great food and were very quick with table service (we had an hour between our morning and afternoon round with plenty of time left over). Overall course conditions were excellent; greens very smooth, but not too fast; rough was manageable where you can find your golf ball. Lots of elevation for a Florida course which was a real surprise. The course will require you to place shots and play every club in the bag; driver is not the choice on every tee box. The 17th, Devil's Delight, was a very fun par 5 and a gallery of onlookers (having drinks and food) will be waiting for you as you approach the green. I will most certainly be back when we travel to central Florida. I've played courses all over the Southeast and I believe this is my favorite golf course.
Plantation on Crystal River - Lagoons Course
Played On 12/28/2015Nice Older Course for Enjoyable Afternoon Round
We picked up this course as an alternate in the afternoon and really enjoyed the round. The course is relatively short by modern standards, but this allows for more options off the tee box. The overall course conditions were good; greens rolled true and nice playing turf from the fairway. There are some nice tight openings from the tee box too! Water is in play on several holes. The rough is a hodge podge of grasses. The pro was very helpful and friendly. This is more of a locals course than a tourists course, but if you need one more round before the Florida sun sets give it a try.
Chickasaw Golf Course
Played On 05/24/2015Best Bear Trace Layout in Tennessee
This course closed a few years back when the State give up on it. It reopened recently and laid dormant for a time. However, the ownership has brought this course a LONG way in a short time period and I am grateful for that. Presently, I would rate the course conditions as average due to the fact that some of the greens are still growing. However, some of the greens are 98% grown in and rolling beautifully! Of all the Bear Trace designed courses in Tennessee, this was always my very favorite layout. It is a fair, but tough course that wonders through the woods of Chickasaw State Park. Pleasant to the eye, but you must plan out your shots. Plenty of room to miss, but your score may pay the price. Range balls were included with the round, great food options, the wonderful cabin clubhouse is still there, super friendly staff! Pace of play was right at 4 hours for an average foursome. This is the best deal around the area to include the Middle Tennessee area. Get out and support this incredible golf course to ensure it thrives this time around. Previous ownership charged over $50 on the weekends which was too much for the area; now it is only $32 (weekend rate with range balls included) and the best deal going. Truly one of the Golden Bear's best designs in the State and on track to be back at its full beauty this Summer. Whoever owns this course, thanks for bringing it back to life! We will be back often,.
Towhee Club
Played On 10/19/2014Great Palmer Designed Course
Great golf course! The greens are in terrific condition and would be considered fast. The fairways were in very good condition although a little bit hairy on some of the holes. Rough was penalizing at times and could be thick in areas, as it is suppose to be. Beautiful course layout; some tight shots and some open shots to fairways, uphill & downhill. Only a couple of blind shots to fairways. You should use most of the clubs in your bag for this one. Outstanding facility with a decent driving range and short game area. The driving range was a bit lacking that day as the main area looked to be growing grass in. I will most certainly be back to play this course even though it took one and a half hours for us to get there.
Bent Tree Golf Club
Played On 06/22/2014Potential for Great Course
New management is investing in the course and it is making a difference. The greens have some rough spots, probable due to the hard winter, but they're filling in nicely and roll true. Greens are medium in regard to hardness and can be relatively fast. The fairways are in great shape (some minor areas need work), tight and cut low to allow for roll out, but if you miss the rough will make you pay as it is spaghetti. The layout is a challenge and demands shot making skills to shoot low scores. The course has a good driving range, but is in need of range balls as they are a hodge podge of recovered golf balls and most are not much count. There is not a practice putting green at the present time. There are some blind shots, but a quick drive up in the cart to scope out the fairway will show you the way. For the money, this is a huge deal and a great day of golf. Go play this course as it will only be getting better in the future.
Meadow Links Golf Course at George T. Bagby
Played On 5/20/2013Excellent Course!
I drive an hour to play this course on a regular basis due to the excellent course conditions. The greens are super smooth and always in outstanding condition. Course is never very busy. Staff is excellent. Practice green, short game area and driving range are in great shape too. Take the time to go and play this course. Make a day of it and get two rounds in with ease. The par 5 18th is one of the best closing holes around!
18 is the best closing hole! I have it tattooed on my shoulder in remembrance of my father who just loved this course! Love that hole!
