Southern Pines Golf Club

SPGC is a wonderful layout on beautiful land. I grew up playing this course as a kid and was excited to play it again. There is a lot of elevation change on the course. You hit to a lot of raised greens that make shots and club selection more challenging. There is some water on the course that could be beautiful if it is cleaned up. The course just needs some TLC. The bones are still good, very good. I was thrilled to hear that Pine Needles/Mid Pines is buying the course and will put some money and care into it. The cart paths need repairing, a number of drainage/erosion issues need attention, and many areas just off the fairways need manicuring/mowing/cleaning up. I can't wait to see what it looks like in a year or two after the soon-to-be new owner gives it some attention. If you've been playing the Pinehurst courses and want another Donald Ross challenge, come play SPGC. This course is not in nearly the same shape as the top courses in the area, but for the price, the beauty, the challenge, and the fun, I'd play it again for sure.

Course is in great shape. Their association with US Kids has really pumped some money into the course. 7 sets of tees so it's a course for all levels. Nice mix of flat, open holes with up/down hill, tree-lined holes. I'd definitely play here again!
Any tips for playing there ?
