Crooked Cat at Orange County National
Played On 07/19/2022Stay out of the rough
Course is in great shape. Played from green tees in tough humidity and barely any wind. Greens have fully recovered from aeration and are playing very true. Early tee time and crew was mowing on the front. Rough is penal and can create challenging approach shots.

Played On 10/07/2018I'm surprised at the condition of this course. Every time it seems like MW is making a comeback, it takes steps backward. There have always been some trouble spots around the course with regard to irrigation and drainage. I was particularly disappointed with manicuring around the bunkers. The sand is in terrible shape and the edging around the traps look like they haven't been touched in months. Our group lost a few balls that landed near bunkers around the greens. Losing a $4 ball on a shot that's slightly off target is unacceptable. I'm hoping it's a matter of time before Hampton puts some money into fine tuning. I've seen what they've done to other courses (Palencia in particular) and it's nothing short of amazing. Until then, I'll most likely take Metrowest out of the rotation.
Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback regarding your recent experience with us. We are hard at work attending to your grievances, and hope to receive the opportunity to impress you in the future.
Warmest Regards,

We called ahead to make sure the greens had not been aerified recently and we were told they were in great shape. Not the case at all. Despite being punched in August, a bunch of greens were dry and not well maintained. Hitting from dirt in some of the fairways wasn't ideal either. I've read some iffy reviews, but wanted to give MW the benefit of the doubt having played there many times before. There are many other course options in the area that are in much better shape.

3 short par 4s to start lets you get your swing going. Course then opens up with a nice layout through a very undeveloped residential area. Slightly challenging par 3s from the white tees (6900 yds) and a great par 5 finishing hole that even the longest hitters will find challenging to hit the green in 2. Course was in great shape with true, moderately fast greens. 5 tee boxes to accommodate any level.
Great wildlife, too. Watched a bald eagle take a seagull out of the sky…very cool.
