Banty's Roost Golf and Country Club - Blue/Red
Played On 06/24/2022You get what you pay for
Over the years, I've played this course many times. In the years prior to the ownership change, the Roost was never a Top 10 in the area, but it was decently maintained. After 3 years of decline to near bottom on the acceptable scale, this year shows marginal conditioning improvement. The greens are reasonable and the fairways are at least mowed to an acceptable height with far less weed content. However, the lack of irrigation gave us fairways that almost played like asphalt, with safe-looking drives taking crazy deviant bounces into the knee high fescue that lines practically every fairway. I usually never lose a ball here - this time I lost 5. Yes, we haven't had much rain, but isn't that exactly why golf courses have irrigation systems? I'll likely play here again, but I'll try to time it following a good rain.

November 28 in the Toronto area usually means golf is on TV only. However, an unusually mild day sparked many courses to open to take advantage. Given the above, I was impressed at the course conditions, especially the undulating greens - much faster than I would have expected, even though they had been recently sanded. For an exec length course, this track is no pushover. Architect Carrick clearly decided to offset the lack of yardage with clever bunkering, water hazards and those confounding greens. Like it a lot!
Rebel Creek Golf Club

My golf bud and I had Rebel Creek on our radar for a while, but it took a Fall deal on GolfNow for us to get over the normally higher green fee. We found the course to be very well designed, from both an esthetic and shot values perspective. The greens were surprisingly quick for late October, several of which share the multi-level characteristics that RT Jones Jr is known for. Lots of elevation changes. Good shots were uniformly rewarded, and there were enough holes where a wayward ball would add only one stroke to the card, but more than a few were well defended. This is especially true for #13 (bad luck?), where the fairway is the only way. Overall, a smart upscale public facility.
