Torres Blancas Golf Club
Played On 04/02/2024Still seeking excellence…
Always is always luke warm towards Golfnow patrons, this still holds true.
Rumor mill: Course is “for sale” so expenditures are tight.
Early in the round, play is slow (too many playing, with no buffering) but groups do spread out, and movement did improve.
Conditions varied (recent rains made for some difficulty): Fairways lush, greens good with decent speed (firm so expect some rollout on approach), bunkers are terrible, and have been so (seemingly forever).
Clubhouse is inviting, didn’t use it, but saw some patrons on the patio.
Overall, It’s an enjoyable layout, has scenic views, and a loyal following.
Worth playing, try to get a reduced rate.
Silverbell Municipal Golf Course
Played On 03/13/2024Greens the best part.
Long and open, fairways lush, off areas either dirt or a challenging mix. Balls from other holes common, no one yells “fore”, a mixed batch of golfing skill sets, be on guard. Greens a nice combination of smooth, mid-fast, semi-soft.
Bar/Clubhouse was closed at 4:30 (?)
Has a decent layout, mostly open, wind can effect scoring. A few ponds, decent bunkers.
Weekend play can be agonizingly slow. Good value as relatively cheap compared to other options.
El Conquistador Golf & Tennis - Conquistador Course
Played On 02/04/2024Back open after renovation…
Had been closed, now new bunker sand (good), fairways and some rough with winter seed (good). Greens fast, downhill or side hill very testy and speedy. Comments of sand on greens overdramatized, they hold, and if you see a bounce more than likely from a ball mark than sand or debris. Clubhouse under going renovation but open. Beverage cart service spotty, late in the day usually. Friendly staff, starter seems organized. Overall good value.
Challenging course with great views. Don’t let yardage fool you, plays long, with lots of ups and down…..recommended.
Fred Enke Golf Course
Played On 01/31/2024Good conditions/ Slow play
All conditions were good, green’s especially nice, roll smoothly, hold a shot. Fred Enke can present challenges to first timers as there are shots to avoid and (unless you know this) you can get into trouble. Crews have cleared vast desert zones to help speed play. Unfortunately carts seem to be driven everywhere including places they shouldn’t visit. There are no ranger’s, most likely wouldn’t help as the course simply gets “stacked up”. Don’t let this deter you, it’s worth a visit.
San Ignacio Golf Club
Played On 01/18/2024You won’t find better in GV
Staff friendly and organized. Course was booked solid and, as a result, play was slow. They have a ranger (powerless) no one wants to be hassled and he didn’t.
All course features in good shape, especially greens which are deceptively fast, smooth, yet fair.
Bunkers better than all GV public competitors.
Love the layout, challenges w/o being brutal.
Bar / restaurant post round excellent.
Play at noon for better pricing and still finishing with time to spare….enjoy!
Forty-Niner Country Club
Played On 01/15/2024Some improvement, doing well.
Folks who downgrade this course do so based on uneven conditions, and slow play. I concede those issue. Fairways are bumpy, tees can be splotchy, and because it’s a great winter play value it gets lots of prime time play. Being tree lined and somewhat lengthy with large difficult greens, it can present challenges.
Greens are cut winter short, moderately firm, somewhat sandy, and are torturous putting across or downhill. Bunker sand is good, fairways yield good and some taxing lies. Overall, there are improvements and they should be recognized. Friendly, accommodating staff, and good food and drink as well. I’ve played this course for years, and will continue….enjoy 49er!
Forty-Niner Country Club
Played On 12/09/2023Busy, and a bit rough
Greens nice (fast and smooth) ball marks an issue on the short par threes. Reseeding relatively successful this year with some bare areas and bumpiness. Bad lies, tree debris, and leaves common as you play in the bosque.
Course was busy and play was slow. This is common on weekends as they host many events. Bar restaurant good (prices noticeably have gone up). Country club atmosphere, friendly staff.
Great park style layout that runs through the wash bottomland, constantly seems to need attention, when good, a fun place to tee it up.
Fred Enke Golf Course
Played On 12/06/2023Ready for winter
Everything looking good, greens rolling mid-fast , smooth, holding fine. Bunkers decent, cart paths can always use work. I think the best city course value, and nice scenery as well. Can play slow, as there are hazards and desert to avoid. Good bar and food if you have the time as well.
Silverbell Municipal Golf Course
Played On 12/02/2023Hasn’t changed much…
Newly renovated bar area is nice (took over a year). Rained the day before play, so course was sloppy. Friendly staff, ramshackled carts, cart paths almost 4wd. Greens best part of experience, receptive and smooth. Some bunkers lack sand. The worse part is pace of play and balls flying seemingly everywhere but were they should be. Any ball played is fair game to be picked up (look what I found).
Decent layout, last 4 holes especially good. Not the best Tucson city has to offer, but worth a play in a pinch.
Arizona National Golf Club
Played On 11/14/2023Nice overseeded greens
Entire course in better than average shape. Bunkers have always lacked sand, seem a bit better this time around. Greens excellent, smooth and fast for overseeded rye. Scenic views and wildlife (deer).
Staff friendly, didn’t use clubhouse, has been spotty and no one seems to frequent it.
Excellent layout and routing, along mountain foothills. Views of Tucson. Can play slow as plenty of potential trouble. Choose the right tees for a more enjoyable round.
San Ignacio Golf Club
Played On 10/31/2023Best in Green Valley?
Can’t say enough positive things about the entire experience. Some may think this is a seniors course, I would say maybe, but conditions are exceptional now, so who cares. I do see folks playing the tips, and it would seem challenging from there. Give this course a try, if not for the scenery. Good bar and restaurant post round as well.
tliguore, thank you for your kind words! We hope to see you again at the course very soon for another 5-star experience. Thanks for choosing San Ignacio Golf Club.
El Conquistador Golf & Tennis - Canada Course
Played On 10/28/2023Improvements made…
Free range balls, nice putting green for warm up. Canada 18 has new pumps and water lines installed, reseeded, ready for winter play.
Greens (surprisingly) normal speed considering just opened after reseed, will get faster as cut shorter. Newly added (finer) bunker sand is also a plus.
No waiting during entire round (Sunday?) and excellent overall on course experience. Starter and ranger friendly but overzealous (we saw no one, held no one up, yet they were on our foursome to keep up (?)
Overlook restaurant in clubhouse good (when open), friendly staff. Everything priced right, will be even better when Conquistador 18 opens with reseeding.
Both courses worth one’s time.
The Club at Starr Pass - Rattler/Coyote
Played On 09/02/2023A fun round, worth the price
It was hot and humid, typical for the date.
Starter friendly, helpful, explained we could play Coyote 9 (after Rattler 9) if we wanted. Since Coyote may be best of the three, we did, no waiting at all during entire round.
Conditions: excellent (too many unfixed ball marks but appeared recent, from that days play?).
Greens mid-speed, smooth, held nicely.
Some of the best fairways and bunkers in Tucson Clubhouse bar decent, resort prices.
Tough to go wrong, enjoyable golf.
The Club at Starr Pass - Rattler/Coyote
Played On 06/01/2023Emphasis on golf
Played mid day, no waiting. Conditions good, bunkers excellent, green complex’s a bit soft, but greens were just right firm. Speedy but not unfair.
They’ve painted some fairways but doesn’t effect play. Staff is accommodating (not overly outgoing). No 1st tee starter (as in the past) so cut backs apparent. Drink cart prices on the high side. Didn’t go inside for post round activities.
No major wildlife sightings, usually an attraction.
Good golf worth the extra price, works to be a bit “toney” but no oppressively so. A fun day overall.
El Conquistador Golf & Tennis - Canada Course
Played On 04/19/2023A good experience
Well run, friendly staff. Course is transitioning to summer grass, still nice, especially greens (mid-fast, tricky). Bunkers inconsistent and could use a bit of work (best avoided). Piping and irrigation lines piled up around course lead me to believe a renovation is planned. Not sure if the course will be open through summer. Overall a nice round: views, little waiting, challenging. Free range balls, decent bar (when open) Canada course less challenging than Conquistador but still requires skill and planning.
Fred Enke Golf Course
Played On 03/21/2023Showing positive signs
Reseeded fairways good, greens firm and quick downhill. Try to be under the hole. Sand has been added to most bunkers making them playable and much improved. Vast area of the desert has been cleared improving speed of play. Don’t hesitate to play shorter tees if distance is an issue. Good clubhouse staff and drink cart.
Speed of play can be an issue, especially first timers. A few blind shots and trouble can menace.
Carts and cart paths need work (or replacement).
A fun course, best played conservatively, and has shown improved overall conditions.
Crooked Tree Golf Course
Played On 03/06/2023Decent choice
Got a good rate and wanted an open course to work on swing. Fairways, tees, rough (dormant) good. Greens smooth, mid-speed, could be cut shorter (IMO). Held ok.
Clubhouse still no real food, bar ok. No on course drink cart. Good range and putting green.
Vanilla golf, sadly sand bunkers (almost every one) have been seeded and given up on. This makes for a reduction in standard play, and adds to frustration as they are long and uneven (thatch).
Maybe the sand bunkers will return some day.
Pace was good, and usually is as course is open with few surprises.
San Ignacio Golf Club
Played On 01/05/2023Good winter golf
The course challenges w/o being brutal.
Greens fast and smooth, hold a shot. Bunkers still a bit firm, clubs bottom out on green side shots.
Moved along with help from ranger who was present throughout our round. Just over four hours, good considering distance between holes.
Nice clubhouse with bar and good restaurant.
Excellent practice area. Getting better all the time.
Best public access course in Green Valley, IMHO.
Hello, tliguore. Thank you for visiting us at San Ignacio Golf Club. We appreciate your 4-star rating and review. We hope you join us for another round soon.
Haven at Haven Public Golf Club
Played On 01/13/2023Excellent Pace of Play (surprises)
Not fancy golf, but price tends to be right.
Good grass conditions. Greens smooth, relatively fast (grain comes into play). Firm, they want them to stay smooth and not be torn up by unfixed ball marks. Bunkers inconsistent, some lack sand, better than nearby counterparts (Torres).
The beauty of the day was speed of play. Forth up on number one, it looked like a long grim ordeal. Once teed up, moved and worked to keep up. Rarely waited, group behind us, staying in touch, didn’t hit into us, entire course synchronized. Not a normal occurrence in winter Arizona golf? Clubhouse bar is strictly a “waterhole”. No food to speak of. We enjoyed the day, and believe the course is worth a play.

El Conquistador Golf & Tennis - Conquistador Course
Played On 12/06/2022Tough scoring
Conquistador 18 plays differently to Canada mainly in the greens which are dormant bent grass (painted) and cut short. They hold a shot marginally and putt like a pool table. They command respect and planning.
Canada greens have some reseeding and putt slightly slower but still are still challenging. Hold better as are watered more frequently.
Fairways reseeded and play well, bunkers fine. Course fairways are watered regularly so play long with little roll out.
Nice challenge, great views, free range balls. Good experience overall.
Thank you for the 4 Star Review! We appreciate you playing El Conquistador and look forward to your next visit!
