Mill Pond Golf Course
Played On 07/20/2018Great Course/Slow Day
I’ve played Mill Pond many times and it is a great course.
Yesterday however the pace of play was slooooow!
Waited on every single hole, and it took nearly five hour to complete the round.
The starter stated that he was letting groups out about every ten minute allowing each group sufficient time, unfortunately that theory didn’t prove effective.
Golf is supposed to be a gentleman’s game and proper etiquette and respect is every golfers responsibility, however there were groups ahead of us taking fifteen minutes plus looking for lost balls and standing around waiting for the green to clear at distances only professionals could reach!
A few actively engaged course rangers on a busy day like yesterday to keep everyone moving along is my only recommendation.
Otherwise I would definitely return to Mill Pond.
The Golf Club at Middle Bay
Played On 05/26/2018Nice golf course, weather can make or break it!
This is a very nice course and the new ownership is trying very hard to improve conditions and amenities after SupetStormSandy absolutely devastated the course, carts, and the buildings.
One factor that can never change is location, and although it’s a very nice setting right by the ocean the extremely high wind which are fairly common can create extremely challenging situations.
Also this course being by the water with canals and many bodies of water around the course can make it very “buggy” with a serious gnat and mosquitoes problem. Having the course treated by environmental pest control professionals would be a major improvement.
Overall I like this course a lot and play there at least once or twice per week, the greens are interesting and well maintained, the fairways, and tee boxes are in good to very good condition most of the time.
$115 greens fees on the weekends makes me primarily weekday player, but GolfNow had a hotdeal for $36 midday Saturday, so I couldn’t afford not to play!!
Finally Ron the resident pro who I think has been there since Moses received the Ten Commandments is a great guy and a great part of the club.
Willow Creek Golf & Country Club
Played On 05/24/2018Best Public Course on Long Island Hands Down!
I travel 55 plus miles each way to play Willow Creek at least twice a week, that says a lot!
Great layout, interesting and challenging holes, very pleasant quiet country like setting and a very friendly staff.
Conditions are always great and the GolfNow rates are significantly less expensive than the normal greens fees.
This most recent round we got stuck behind a brutally slow foursome, but that can happen almost anywhere. The ranger came out and asked them to pick up the pace. Aside from that I have no complaints whatsoever.
