Great Value, Great Pace of Play, Very Tricky

New management has certainly improved the Canada course greatly over the past year. I was surprised to see how well the course has grown in. Its summer conditions are extremely competitive with the best Tucson has to offer right now.

The course is challenging, utilizing great elevation changes and narrow fairways to make a rather short course from the black tees, play difficult. I always recommend first time players to move up a full 300 yards from their normal distance, as the fairways are very tight, and have desert hazard all around, meaning that driver (or even 3 wood) is often not the best club off the tee to attack the pins. The greens are very fair.

Range Balls are included with the greens fees, making this a great value. Especially if combined with one of the many Restaurant combos now offered through the summer.

Pace of play is fantastic, if not too fast. My threesome finished in 3:25, and was passed by 2 twosomes.

There are lots of water stations on the course for you to refill a water bottle or cup, though restrooms on the back nine are only on the way to 10 and the 15th tee.

Sadly, this is not a walking course. But it sure is a fun course to play with some great spots to take some pictures of the Catalinas.

One of our favorite Phoenix Courses

ASU Karsten, is easily one of our favorite Phoenix courses to play. The staff, pace of play, and consistancy of the Greens (Both on the course, and in the Practice area) are fantastic.

The staff is great, there are plenty of relief stations on the course, and the tees offer a great variety of play for all levels.

Off the closely mown areas, the course has been experiencing some uneven turf conditions. But being a Pete Dye course with large mounding, this can sometimes be advantageous.

I hope it stays open for a while to come. It will be sad to see it go.

Great, Challenging Course

OGA is a fantastic course, with great, and well maintained putting surfaces. The pace of play can drag a bit, due to 5 par 5's all of which are very reachable, but with some awkward layout (Especially hole 4) for players not using the back tees.

You get what you pay for

Turf Conditions on the course have never been fantastic, and the green speed and receptiveness does not usually match what is on the practice greens. The Double Green is awkward, and sometimes contributes to the pace of play issues. 2 Driveable Par 4's sharing a green?

Staff is great, pace of play is always slow. It is what it is.

The better of the two courses

The Greens on both courses at Omni are fantastic, the staff and practice facilities are fantastic, but the Catalina course is by far the preferred 18 here.

A Very fair, and balanced layout. I especially like the variety of the par 5s: Some are tight and short, others are wide open and long; and the balance of the par 3's in yardages (though 3 of them are in the same direction) and layout: Over Water, Up hill, Long, Downhill and well bunkered.

The fairways are very forgiving, though

Not a walkable course

The Greens on both courses at Omni are fantastic, the staff and practice facilities are fantastic, but the Catalina course is by far the preferred 18 here.

This is simply not a very walkable 18, with some awkward holes (15) not conducive to high handicap players. In addition, some of the forced carries in the middle holes are unrealistic given the low course rating and slope.

That said, if you want to sandbag your handicap for your next club tournament, this is the course for you.

This used to be a fantastic course

To be kind, the ownership/management changes have really challenged the staff here to keep the course working in good condition. The practice area is not one of our favorites. What you practice on has no correlation to the course.

Hole 2 is an awkward Par 5 and can certainly cause a bunch of early pace of play issues.
