Westin Rancho Mirage Golf Resort & Spa - Pete Dye Resort Course
Played On 03/07/2024Whidbey Golf Club
Played On 07/18/2019Enjoyed This Course
Wife and I played here while vacationing in the area. Really enjoyed this track. Great layout. Excellent conditions. Friendly staff. Beautiful place. A couple of quirky holes - especially when you haven't been there before and don't know where you're going. Better to play with someone who knows their way around. As always, I wish the range had real grass instead of mats, but other than that, no complaints.

Played On 07/15/2019Enjoyed Our Round
Wife and I played here while vacationing in the area. The course is on NAS Whidbey Island - the naval air station. However, you don't have to enter through the base gates to make access. Interesting history on the course. Some interesting/quirky holes. A few blind shots. Tees and greens were in decent shape. Fairways were a really mixed bag. It wasn't a private club, but not bad for being a government installation. Great scenery! The base shooting range is right next door, so you occasionally have to deal with gunfire during your backswing....not mention a free airshow overhead from planes in the landing pattern. Can't beat it for the price.
Woodlands at Sunriver Resort
Played On 07/12/2019Great Course - Terrible Pace of Play
Wife and I played with a couple of local guy who were very nice. Loved the track (more than Meadows). Great condition. Staff friendly. Our only complaint was pace of play. It was a 5 1/2 hour round. We were behind a group of 30/8 tee times who were more interested in drinking than golfing. There was no effort to speed them up. We were told by one of the staff that they brought enough money that no one was going to hassle them. Great....too bad the rest of us had to pay the price for giving these guys a pass on playing in normal time.
Meadows at Sunriver Resort
Played On 07/05/2019Nice Course
Wife and I player with a couple who are property owners, so the rate is the property owners rate with cart. Range balls were an extra $10 for a medium bag.. Friendly, efficient staff. Nice practice/warmup area with range and putting green. Started on schedule and finished in a little less than 4 hours. Tees and greens in good shape, some spots in the fairways need attention. Half of the layout is in the open and exposed to the breeze. The other half is in the trees and narrow. Enjoyed the course (but liked Woodlands better).
Bandon Crossings Golf Course
Played On 07/02/2019Don't Miss This Course!
Wife and I played this course twice while staying in the Bandon area. Course was in excellent condition: tees, fairways, greens, and bunkers were all in great shape. Congrats to the superintendent and team! Challengine routing. Some holes are exposed to the wind and feel like links golf, some are in the trees - sheltered, but skinny. Some course knowledge is helpful as there are some quirky holes - there wasn't as much mystery when we played the 2nd time. Ask the pro shop for advice before you tee off. They offer a number of specials, so check on-line or ask. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Yes, we know that the big boy resort to the north gets all of the attention around here, but this is a track not to be missed if in the area.
The Hills Course at Red Hawk
Played On 06/21/2019Great Course - Staff Needs Lessons in Customer Service
My wife and I played here while vacationing in the Reno area. We got a GolfNow Hot Deal which was $40 each. Beasutiful setting. Two courses - the Lakes is down in the valley floor and the Hills, which we played, climbs the hills on the side of the valley. That means you have to deal with less water, but more elevation changes. There were several holes where good shots were punished due to the sidehill fairways.
Greens and tees were in great shape. Fairways were OK., but nothing more. The bunkers were a mess and highly variable. Some were like wet concrete and others had 8" of fluffy sand.
Our lasting impression, unfortunately, will be of a staff that was unfriendly and didn't seem to care (except for the starter who as OK. When we arrived, the staff stood by and watched while we unloaded our own clubs. The women behind the counter in the pro shop seemed like we were interrupting their conversation - bad attitude. Beverage cart attendent seemed to have an attitude. When we returned. the outside staff ignored us while we unloaded our clubs off the cart and carried them out to the car. Overall, we didn't feel welcome and we won't be back.
Somersett Country Club - Championship
Played On 06/19/2019A Great Round!
My wife and I played here while vacationing in the Reno area. We are members of a ClubCorp club at home and were able to play Somersett for cart fees: $25 each.
The course was in excellent condition - tees,. fairways, greens, and bunkers. A challenging track with lots of elevation changes and quite a few blind shots. I'll play quite a few holes differently the next time.
Our only complaint was pace of play. We were playing behind the Men's Club's Wednesday mixer and they played a 5+ hour round. I would expect members to play quicker. Must have been playing for a million dollars ;-)
We will definitely return when we are again in the Reno area.
Carmel Valley Ranch Resort
Played On 06/14/2019Great Golf in the Carmel Valley
My wife and I played here while attending the US Open at Pebble. We're members of a ClubCorp club at home so we were able to play for cart fees. We always enjoy this club when we're in the Carmel area. The front nine is on the valley floor. The back nine climbs the side of the valley with a lot of elevation changes. Lots of challenging holes that make you think. Course was in excellent condition. Staff was friendly. Enjoyed our day.
Cochiti Golf Club
Played On 08/18/2018Worth The Drive!
Wife and I played here while vacationing in Santa Fe. After being disappointed at another course in the area, we were very happy with Cochiti. The staff was friendly and helpful (especially Cedric). The course was in great shape. Really liked the layout (and I normally don't care or RTJ courses). Pace of play was good - especially for a Saturday morning. We are really glad we found Cochiti Lake and will definitely return if we get back in the area.
Boulder at Towa Golf Resort
Played On 08/16/2018Great Track! Terrible Conditions
Wife and I played Towa (Boulder/Valley) while vacationing in the area. Easy to book on-line. The staff was friendly and helpful. The resort has 3 nines and we played Boulder and Valley. The Boulder had just been aerated, Valley was next. We loved the design/track. A challenging golf course. Not overly long. Narrow in some places. Some blind shots. In-cart GPS allows you to see where you're going. The greens on Valley (not yet aerated) were great. Boulder's greens had just been aerated, so not so good. The fairways and, especially the rough were in TERRIBLE condition. We understand that there were some significant water issues earlier tis year and water had to be turned of to the rough for a long time. Much of it is dead or bare dirt. Adjacent fairways are also in pretty bad shape. Assuming they can get things back in shape, this would be a great course (and a great place to stay and play). In the short term, we really couldn't recommend it.
Hackberry Creek Country Club
Played On 08/10/2018Super-Friendly Staff, Good Layout
Wife and I played here while visiting family in the area. Rate is for ClubCorp members. Turned out to be a rainy day, but we stuck it out. Course played well in the rain - it drains well. Followed a 5-some of members who moved along nicely - we finished in under 4 hours. Course is laid out through a residential area, but the houses aren't too close. Challenging holes with some elevation changes. Course was in good condition.Staff in pro shop, starter, marshals, cart staff were all VERY friendly. We enjoyed our day, even if it was a little wet.
Shady Valley Golf Club
Played On 08/08/2018Nice Course, Good Layout
Note to self: when the course is called Shady anything, that means lots of trees! Wife and I played at Shady Valley while visiting family in the area. Rate paid is for ClubCorp members. Old course with interesting layout. Not many straight holes - lots of doglegs. Lots of trees. Fairways and greens in outstanding shape (except at 11 AM they still hadn't replaced the tee markers after mowing). Traps were a mixed bag, Some dirt. Some clay. Some sand. Members were great about letting a twosome play through. Golf shop staff seemed like we were bothering them. Recommend the course if in the area.
Angel Fire Resort Country Club
Played On 07/30/2018Enjoyed The Course
Wife and I played Angel Fire twice while vacationing in the area and we thoroughly enjoyed the course. Rate reflects a discount for staying at an Angel Fire
Resort property. Layout is challenging, but manageable. Condition was great - especially considering weather conditions this year. Staff friendly and helpful. Pace of play was 4-4.5 hours. We will definitely return when in the area.
The Links at Cobble Creek
Played On 07/09/2018Our Choice For Best Course In The Area
Wife and I played here while vacationing in the area. By far, conditions were the best of all the courses we played in th area. The superintendent here figured out a way to recover from the harsh winter better than others in the area. We enjoyed the track. Not much elevation change, but lots of twists and turns and use of water, sand, and rocks to make you think. Pace of play was OK considering we were following the Men’s Club. We have already booked another round before we leave.
Devil's Thumb Golf Club
Played On 07/07/2018A Challenge, But Not Best In The Area
Wife and I played here while vacationing in the area. This is a ‘links’ style course in the sand hills north of Delta. Great scenery/views. Not a tree anywhere in sight and not much water. The layout is on the shortish side. The challenge comes in the routing of holes and in the speed of the greens (11 in the day we were there). Lots of blind shots or shots with big elevation changes - both mean you’re guessing where to hit and what Club to pull. I will probably enjoy it more if I play it again. Staff was great - friendly and helpful. Conditions were OK. It was a good experience, but I’m not sure I would rush back there.
The Bridges Golf & Country Club
Played On 07/05/2018Great Course
The wife and I Played at The Bridges while vacationing in the area. We really enjoyed the course. It was challenging, interesting, and playable, without being penalizing. Staff was helpful and friendly. Course had some bare patches in the fairways, but we understand that the weather this past winter was a challenge and courses in the area are recovering. Definitely recommend the course if you’re in the Montrose area.
Sumo Golf Village
Played On 06/24/2018Great Design, Poor Conditions
We’ve played quite a few Gary Player designed courses (this is a Signature design) and always enjoy them. This track is another good design. Challenging holes and beautiful scenery. Having said that, we were disappointed with our visit. The course conditions were terrible with lots of bare patches in fairways and bad grass in most greens. We were told this was a tough winter, but it’s nearly July. The rough hadn’t Been mowed in a while. You could be 6 inches off the fairway and be in 3” rough or 1’ rough. Lost several balls that weren’t more than a foot off the fairway. Looks like the economy hasn’t been good for this course. Too bad. As the wife said, this would be a great course...somewhere else.
Carmel Valley Ranch Resort
Played On 10/18/2017We Had Fun!
My wife and I played here while vacationing in the area. You know....some courses are work....some are meh....this one was fun and we truly enjoyed our round! A beautiful setting, the front nine is played on the floor of the valley. Then starting with #10 you start climbing until you reach a point several hundred feet above the valley floor with views all the way to the ocean. Dramatic elevation changes up and down. Par 70. Not overly long - you don't need to hit driver on every hole. Conditions were near perfect. Staff were friendly and helpful. Only minor glitch is that the range is short and limited to irons only. Highly recommend this course.
Paso Robles Golf Club
Played On 10/16/2017We Picked a Bad Day
Wife and I played here on a Monday morning while vacationing in the area. This is an old, classic course...I think it was founded in 1961? Now surrounded by houses....especially on the front nine. Not much in the way of elevation changes. But most of the holes were interesting. LONG par 3s! Pro shop staff was great! Range is small and balls are an extra charge. On the morning that we played, they were punching the approaches and aprons around the green. For much of the front nine is was just a mess with plugs covering the approaches and fringes. They had not made it to the back, so things got better after the turn. Wish someone would have let us know. Anyway, would recommend if looking to play while in Paso Robles.
Currently the golf course conditions are fantastic. A bad year with water issues last year, and now water issues solved, this course will surprise you!
I hope you get a chance to return to Towa soon because the conditions have improved DRAMATICALLY! We have had a change in management, as well as a favorable winter, and i am confident that you will be amazed when you return!
I appreciate you comments and i want to assure you that course conditions will improve dramatically and the water issues have been addressed for the future. We will be working diligently over the next year to improve course conditions.
