Very Sad to see where Singing Hills is Headed

Singing Hills has been one of my favorite places to play for over 20 years. However, their recent changes and complete lack of concern has led me to never visit again. Recently, they removed colored flags from the greens. I brought this up to quite a few employees at the course, and was eventually directed to the General Manager. When I spoke to the GM, I was told that is the way it is, if you have a cart you have the pin location information. I responded, what about walkers, and then suggested they create pin sheets, loan out rangefinders to walkers, or just put the colored flags back. I was told this is the way it is and if I watched golf on the weekends I would see that they do not use colored flags, a comparison I find ridiculous as I have neither a caddy to supply the information or the time to walk the entire course in advance of playing.

During my last round there, on Tuesday, June 28th, the following occurred:

I looked forward to refilling my water and getting something additional to drink at the turn, but the snack bar was closed. I gave the pro shop a call to request the cart, but also closed. Never did we see the beverage cart during our round. When it is over 90 degrees, it would be nice to have a way to get something to drink.

Finally, as we approached the final hole, the GPS in the cart of my playing partners shut down for the day. I guess you were trying to make the riders feel the same pain we walkers feel going without information.

I emailed the course to discuss my concerns once again and received this reply from the Director of Golf:

Our policies are our policies and they are not going to change we are looking to partner with patrons that not have patrons that do not complain at the first sight of change. We have made some changes and most likely others are coming. You have every right to play where you want to play and we have every right to manage our business the way we see fit.

We feel at the end of the day we will have some nice courses that offer players a completive and nice place to play. I think at this point it’s probably best you move on.

Regards,

Alan Vallecorsa

Director Of Golf Operations

Alan is suggesting that I am in the wrong as I complained about "changes" and has told me not to play there in the future.

It must be nice to have so much demand that you can alienate very loyal customers, but I guess that is the situation Singing Hills is in. If you do decide to play there, beware if you are a walker as they are charging the same rate as the riding rate.

Ignoring Pandemic

Singing Hills seems to be under the impression that the COVID-19 pandemic is over. Maybe they believed the White House claim that they had ended it. No more cup modification to assist with retrieving the ball and the rakes were back in the bunkers. The conditions at this course have been deteriorating since re-opening and they seem to be attempting to address that issue as the fairways were recently over seeded. Hopefully they will address the deplorable conditions in the practice area soon. Regardless, I will not return until they step up and act like a responsible member of the community by taking proper precautions to promote public health.

Course Conditions Worst I Have Experienced Here

I have played here many times over the years and the course conditions I experienced were by far the worst I have seen at Singing Hills. Beginning with the practice area, it is clear that they are no longer maintaining this course in the same way they used to. Fairways were inconsistent, with bare spots and overgrown areas, greens were in poor condition, as were the tee boxes. We had played the Oak course on July 23rd and were sorely disappointed with the conditions there, but Willow was still decent at that time. Now, however, Willow has dropped to the same poor conditions. I will pay half the price and go to Cottonwood 3 miles away for a course in much better condition.

Outstanding Layout being Wasted by Poor Management

Oak Quarry is a really interesting course with great views and it is in pretty decent condition. Given all of these factors, it is extremely sad to that it is being managed so poorly.

First of all, check in was quite slow as they were clearly understaffed.

I had read lots of reviews about running behind, so I was not surprised when the starter told us they were 15 minutes behind. If a course is always running behind, it seems logical that they should simply adjust their tee time practices. The rest of the round was not too slow, but it would have been better had a marshal been on the course to explain to the group in front of us that they were allowed to drive their carts to their balls on the fairways.

The most infuriating issue is with the lack of information they provide about the pins. There were two signs with a spot to indicate the day's pin placement. Both were blank, so I asked the starter what the pin position was. He said they did not know and only had 150 yard markers available. The GPS on the cart might have helped, but it did not measure to the pin and the touchscreen was not working to calculate distances (that information was supplied by my playing partners as my cart lacked the GPS completely). At minimum, it seems that if they are not going to provide a pin position and pin sheet, they could at least used different colored flags to indicate front, middle, back, but no, they do not do this either.

Fun layout, pretty good condition, great views, but this course could really be top notch if they got someone in there to manage it well.
