Fall golf

I like the layout of the course a lot, as there are a fair number of holes that make you think beyond your driver without being gimmicky, and it's in a beautiful setting. They could have done a bit more to counteract the Fall Golf effects (had the greens been mowed this week, even?) but we were playing for reduced rates, so I'm not going to worry about that. I've marked them down because of the near total lack of attention to pandemic safety measures. Staff behind the desk, especially at the food counter, were unmasked and weren't even doing the "oh I just took it off for a minute" look of having one around their chin. There was also a table full of guys done with there round who has clearly finished their food and weren't wearing masks, either, and were just sitting inside talking. Anybody interested in minimizing the risk of taking Covid home to a vulnerable loved one should avoid this course, because they clearly don't much care about your well being.

Great course, but bad decisions lately

This is a wonderful course and I've played it regularly over the past few years. I gave 5 stars for the course condition because over the long haul that's a fair rating, but I have a complaint. The staff members are great, the facilities are very well kept, and the conditions of the fairways and greens are typically excellent. That said, I have to say how disappointed I am with the trend over the last 3 years . They have simplified the course by cutting down dozens of trees with the most recent move being the worst, by far. They cut down a giant oak tree that protected the green on #11 and in the process robbed one of the signature holes in the area of every bit of its personality. Now it's just another meh dogleg right par 4. The more fundamental problem: this was a magnificent tree that must have been well over 100 (200?) years old. This was a terrible decision and it resulted in an irrecoverable loss. It makes the whole course feel less special.
