Great Course

This is such a good course. The track was great!!! The conditions were great!! If I had to nit-pick, there are certain low areas around tees and greens that are really soft (but thats normal down here) and right now the rough is fairly thick (a couple times I walked right by my ball and never saw it) its not a complaint just an observation for you. The cart paths were in good shape and clean. The golf carts were very comfortable with tinted windshields, USB charges, rakes attached, and GPS with Bluetooth connectivity ( I still have to work when I’m playing so it was really nice to be able to keep my phone plugged in and charging instead of being worried about the battery)
Nice driving range, smallish putting green, they have music playing over some speakers around the clubhouse and putt putt course which is really nice (yes they have a nice non-obtrusive putt putt course!).
If you wanted to know something they could improve at…. There are not ball washers on the tees, and unless I totally missed them, there are no water coolers or water/ice machines at the restrooms.
Great place though and I’m glad I found it and will absolutely play again. So much better than some other courses that charge more, they care here and it shows, that’s what matters.

Not Worth It Right Now

Beware!!
This course is not worth they are charging, at least prior to this review, let me explain. I can see the course being really good but when I played it should be a $50-$60 round MAX!
These are all things that for $80 should be taken care of. The fact that the little things aren’t looked at tells you either the lack of care or the staff has become “course blind” because they see it everyday. I am not someone who hides behind a keyboard and says this, after my round I actually went back to the pro-shop and spoke with the Head Pro, because how are they suppose to make changes if they don’t know? His reaction and response is what prompted me to make this public and to relay my experience to all of you. I actually thought someone kept walking up behind me or that there was a ghost in the pro shop because he stopped looking at me while I was talking to him and was constantly looking behind me and out the front door to the parking lot, kinda creeped me out a little bit. I didn’t even get to make him aware of everything because he cut me off, gave “reasons” and then handed me his card and said “call me next time you come out”… like I’m ever going to come back.
Let’s start with the golf carts…… there is NO GPS in the carts for $80, the USB plugs DO NOT work (I understand they have a lot of retired play/members but some of us are still working and need the ability to charge a phone or speaker), the carts are half-cleaned ( just hosed down and trash emptied, there was still sand on the floorboards for recently cleaned carts, and 2 cigarette butts in my sand bucket)
The cart paths are not beat up however, they are messy. Sand, dirt, dead branches and just overall dirty. I understand about runoff etc but you can tell they don’t maintain the paths, blow them off or clear them as regular maintenance. The best path section was between 16-17, thats what it should look like, so I know it can be done out there.
For $80 there are no ball washers on the tee boxes, come on thats a simple amenity. Also, 2 of the 4 water cooler stations did not even have a cooler in them. Also, one of the water fountains at the bathrooms was not working.
The edging of bunkers was non existent, and the grass around the bunkers and ponds was not maintained. Visually it looked horrible, again it would be fine for a $50-$60 course but not $80. Now I understand about rain and soft conditions…. All it takes is a weed eater, my teenage son even knows how to use one of them.
ALOT of bare spots, NOT in the main areas of play, but enough on the edges and in areas for you to notice.
The fairways, rough, greens, and tees were in good shape. I will give them credit there but again for their price point its the little things that separate you even more because there are plenty of course for less that offer the same great things but also take care of the little things, show they care and that they put thought into the golfers experience.
Also, the maintenance staff, who I’m only guessing, is retired gentlemen or young guys, aren’t very curtious or aware of golfers. I literally had one mowing a fairway 2 stripes away from me while I’m hitting an approach shot into a green and a bunker raker not going backwards so he was with me for 4 holes raking the bunkers while I was playing.
When I went to pro shop to talk with the Pro, he of course told me they were short staffed in maintenance….. So is everyone else. If thats the case and you aren’t able to provide a certain product and you aren’t having to pay a full staff of maintenance employees then there’s no reason to charge everyone as if you were.
It isn’t horrible, its a good track, just be aware. I would’ve had a much more enjoyable time for $50-$60 instead of the $80.25 ($75 + tax). I couldn’t believe I paid that much for that round.
Just so you know, I played a morning tee time during the week and with the experience from the Head Pro….. I actually purchased my tee time straight from the course, I did not use a third party provider. So this is the experience and reaction I received straight up being 100% a customer of theirs.

How the mighty has fallen

This is a tough one for me and I might be a little biased because I have seen this course in its prime and it is NOWHERE near what it once was. This was one of the absolute best tracks in Atlanta dare I even say in all of Georgia. But is it fair to compare what it once was? I’ll attempt to not do that and give you what I had when I played. The “track” itself is still there and I love the layout. Dennis Griffiths designed this course and its fantastic. You can play American style golf (high and long) on a link style feeling course. Numerous tees which will give you a completely different playing experience depending on what you choose, so choose wisely and have fun. The conditions…… not good. Yes it is April so I’m not going to even judge when it comes to dormant grass but you can tell there has not been any treatment to assist the regrowing of it with spring and summer coming, its taking a natural route. The greens were not great. Deffinently playable and puttable, it wont have complains about holding the line but there are dead spots and some algae or fungus on parts of all the greens, but again its playable but not understandable how that was allowed to happen. The lack of attention to detail shows, bc its not one or two things, its numerous little things that shouldn’t be allowed. Tee markers with “sun baked” paint or rust on them, unfilled divots on the tee boxes, my cart had no sand, bare spots along the cart paths through out the whole course and around the clubhouse (its not hard to punch and throw seed and if its cause by runoff then out sod down so you dont have to worry about the seed being washed away and when its in parts of the course where carts constantly drive onto then put a barrier there i.e rocks, barrier or poles with ropes to force the carts to use another entry/exit point until you can get grass to grow back) the cups for water coolers were still in cardboard sleeve on the side and the cooler’s button was completely off (that didn’t just happen today), the bridges are safe but the wood on them should be repaired and cleaned up, they’ve cut down some the waste/growth areas but have not maintained them so you can find your ball however there’s now a lot of thorny vines that have grown and make it difficult to get near without getting pricked. The boulders need pressure washing that mark the hole your on bc again they look unattended. As I said, its the little things but its numerous things that add up. Great track, always has been. Always will have a special place in my heart but please please please pay attention to detail bc that is what separates the good ones from the great. Take pride in this course bc it absolutely 100% deserves the attention and your love.

Fun time

Give Crystal lake a shot. Good conditions. Wide fairways with minimal rough. Great views and gorgeous homes to distract you from golf in between your shots.
You don’t come back to clubhouse after 9 holes so plan accordingly.
You’ll enjoy the course, go back and play or get out there and experience it for yourself.

Yes, you should play

Course was in great shape. Rough is not very thick, your able to play out it. The low rough combined with wide fairways make this a very playable course. Dennis Griffiths design so there are grass mounds on each hole, which I enjoy. Greens were great, no complaints at all. The only comments on the greens would be that they look faster than they are. If you go out to play make sure to stock up at the clubhouse bc you do not come back to clubhouse after 9.
Enjoy!

Worth the time

Great course. Beautiful atmosphere and environment. This course is absolutely worth visiting. The journey/drive up is part of the experience, especially once you get off the interstate. Great views from the course. It’s hard to believe you are only in the foothills bc of the elevation changes, but I never felt like I was having to hit uphill, they mostly felt downhill. Conditions are great with generous fairways. The rough is not very penalizing as it is also a low cut, kind of like a resort course in Florida. However, get outside the rough and it’s trees and whispy, tall grass. The greens are great but know going into it that they are quick greens! For some reason also, you just want them to break more but they hold their line beautifully, only when the ball starts dying off in speed will it move left or right. Pay attention to the pin locations for your approach and around the green shots as this will determine the type of shot required. It’s challenging to hold the greens so you may need to land it short and run it up or throw it high to reduce the rollout.
Even if the course eats up your score you will walk away having enjoyed your round. If your interested, you could even turn it into a stay-cation as there are mini houses that you can rent so you can golf, enjoy food and drinks, they also have ponds to fish, horses to ride amongst the trails, a shooting/clay range and various other ammenities.
If you haven’t already or if you want to take someone who has not been, or are considering revisiting and just looking to get away from the city and play a type of course not common around Atlanta go play Barnsley Resort and you’ll have a great relaxing time.
ENJOY!!

Awesome

Fantastic course. First time playing and even though it was cart path only this is rated amongst my top 5 most enjoyable rounds and I didn’t even play as well as I could have. Conditions are great and layout is wonderful. Something the description said is actually true, it is difficult yet forgiving. There is enough room for your ball to move a lot either way but yes, if you hit a really bad shot you will lose it. Greens are great, the ball will stay true with speed but once it starts dying off in speed the break will take it from going into the cup, they are sneaky but roll true. The carts have GPS but also have speakers that can play satellite radio stations or hook up to your Bluetooth which was very enjoyable. There is also a section with “tips” you can reference that has non other that Greg Norman giving you tips on your game if you need it. The course does not come back to clubhouse after 9 so either stock up or make sure the cart girl is out there. Nice clubhouse, nice scenery. Just a great time, I had planned on making this a one time trip because of the drive up there but will definently be going back. The ONLY downside is that they have stopped with the Covid-19 precautions!!!! They are putting 2 people to a cart and DO NOT have anything in the cup preventing the ball from dropping all the way in. The only 2 employees I saw wearing a mask was the pro shop attendant and the bar tender. It’s something to consider and at least to know of before you go. I wish they wouldn’t have relaxed the precautions so soon.

Sweet and Sour

This course is sweet bc visually it’s very nice. Meandors through some nice houses and also some natural areas. In very good condition except the bunkers, they looked like they had been washed out by rain and that they haven’t been refilled with sand, it’s not all of them but all you’ve got to do is avoid them right? However the sourness comes into to play by the challenge of the course. A good bit of blind tee shots where you can’t see the ball roll out, lots of fairway bunkers and the greens......... they are large greens however they do have a lot of undulation and they will test your green reading ability. Also, the fairways are a very good size however, if you miss a fairway there isn’t much rough to keep you from getting lost. Fun course, you’ll enjoy it and lots of different tee options to choose from for your playing level. The carts do not have GPS but they do have USB ports for your devices. Have Fun!!!!

Great scenery

Pretty neat course. It meanders through some of the Marsh with those holes being totally exposed to the elements. The other holes go throughout some very nice homes and gorgeous mossy oak trees. Some holes are easy distances and very gettable while others make up for their generous distances. Bunkers positioned well surrounding the greens so make sure you pay attention of where not to miss and ponds and hazards are positioned from off the tee so again just look forward on the hole and see what’s out there for you. Here’s the funny thing though, the greens rolled great and definently held shots when hitting into them however the grass seems very thin on some of them all most bare and it’s like there’s a layer of black algae or fungus under the grass but again, it did not affect the putts, not sure how they do it but they do. Great clubhouse -and had good range and putting area. Carts have GPS and also USB charging ports. Hope this helps, enjoy and good luck!

Great course, been used though

This is a great course, love everything about it including the ammeneities. Carts do not have GPS so bring your own. The setup of this course is through a neighborhood and has a lot of places where your ball will get lost in the brush and woods if you spray it. Had lots of carries too. The only reason I didn’t give everything 5-stars was because of the greens. I am so tired of people not respecting or leaving the course in better shape than they found it. The greens are very soft, they are doing a great job not drying out however, with soft greens comes ball marks....... and a lot of them and they just need to be respected. Are the horrible? Are they unputtable? NO, they still roll good and respond good. They do have signs “fix your divot, plus one”. I truly enjoy this course and am so thankful that I have the opportunity to play it. You’ll truly enjoy this course and you will too. I probably came after a busy weekend, give it a go and you won’t be disappointed either.

Has been passed by

Let me say, this is an amazing facility. Huge clubhouse/lounge, driving range, 36 holes of golf but, it seems that what once was is no longer. It’s kind of sad to see, reading the history of this course and seeing the grounds in person, you can absolutely tell this use to be the place to be. But as most great things, time has passed this by and it has not been loved/taken care of/cared for, for its past glory and grandness. I say this bc it’s run down and neglected. If you just want to get out and play a round then it’s fine but don’t expect much. Tee boxes were rough, fairways were thin, rough had multiple types of grass, bunkers were just there (not horrible with washouts and rocks). The course is fine but it’s really hard to actually compliment anything except what you can tell it once was. I’m not going to bash it either bc it is what it is, we see this all the time with courses. Go play it, it deserves the respect, but just lower the expectations, enjoy seeing something great from the past and with lower expectations than what it use to be you’ll have a good time. Get stuff in the shop bc you don’t come back to the clubhouse after 9 and bring your range finder bc there’s no GPS in the carts.

Brand name

Not a horrible course. Not quite comfortable saying it's worth the $75 and our group of 6 agreed. I understand that courses here are in transition so won't comment on that. But can say that as of Wednesday it isn't $75 worth. Ok layout, marsh on the back side, tree lined on the front. A couple trees in the fairway. No GPS but the carts do have a ball washer and club washer on them, also, no USB plugs on the carts for your electronics. Overall, I think the price is worth more because of Jack Nicholas's name but your not playing with Jack just playing a golf course.

Must play!

Ok I'm gonna try to hit the points people care about. The carts have GPS and they also have UBS plugs for your electronics. Great practice area. Really good layout with open feel but does have trees that are spaced out in between holes. Well placed bunker but not unfair. Greens were very good, speed was just right, just die the ball in the hole. Easy to navigate in between holes. Just a super good track, first time playing but definently want to start including this into my golfing rotation and so should you. Unique in a good way and fun!

Good Track

Good course to play. I teed off at 0640 and the range has lights for the darkness. Typically a flat course and layed out with the holes next to each other which makes it great for walkers bc the greens and tees and close by. Sand in bunkers were good and greens rolled great. Really no complaints and if your looking for a good track on the area tho is definently one to try. Enjoy!

Course was in great shape!! This course has 27 holes, I was suppose to play red and white but when I got done with red the pace had slowed a bit so all I did was talk to the marshalls and they allowed me to go off the blue which gave me a quicker pace of play, that's the beauty of 27 holes that the course offers. Fun and enjoyable, there are trouble areas aka fairway bunkers, hazards, ponds, green side bunkers but you can see them and choose how to play the shot. I never came up to my ball and said "I didn't know that was there" great course and great condition. Play it again if you've done so before or go for the first time and enjoy a great round of golf at Bradshaw Farms, no matter which of the 3 9's you play

Ok, so I've been waiting to write a review on this because there weren't a lot of current ones and not to many descriptions so here we go. Great clubhouse with well stocked pro shop. Driving is nice with range balls already on the range for you and I believe they were Callaway range balls. Huge putting green and chipping area. The started will call you up for your tee time and get you and your group together before sending you to first tee. Now the course, nobody said anything but this is a very open course. Almost every hole has houses on them and there aren't many trees, it kinda has a links style to it. You can see multiple holes at once from wherever you are. Bent grass fairways were nice, the greens can be good, I could tell they aerated a while ago bc some of the indentions were still in the green but those will be going away like always. Great layout, directions to holes were easily marked, carts have GPS and they have multiple tees and on the scorecard it gives you different tee combinations so I think it comes out to like 7 or 8 different tees. Also had a beverage cart going around on a Wednesday so that was a nice surprise. Overall great course, the wind was like 20mph and it whips through this open layout but that's part of the challenge on a windy day right? Give this one a shot and you won't be disappointed

Wow

This is one of the best I've played. I've played all over port Charlotte and punta gorda and to go 30 mins outside of punta gorda this is a must. I got a hot deal but would definently pay the regular price to pay this course. Ok real quick, they have a water driving range, the fairways are green and give you just enough grass under the ball, the greens are beautiful and are paced just right, every sprinkler has yardages front center and back, the cart paths are easily marked to the next tees, I didn't see a cart girl but there is a snack shack that you pass twice so you can stock up on supplies. We played in 20 mph wind and it was still an enjoyable round. There are hazards aka bunkers and water but there are areas to hit to to avoid these. Again super super super great course, if you haven't, you need to make it a point to play. The round took 4:45 to play which for me is LONG but this is the first round out of 5 that I actually finished bc I was enjoying it. If I have to make 1 critique it's if you are coming from P.C. Or P.G. The GPS will take you through Herons Glen, Don't Do This!!!! There's a gate that won't let you through, just go past two more slots on 41 and you'll see the magnolia landings entrance. Go play, you won't be disappointed.
