Prestatyn Golf Club
Played On 02/05/2020Great day out on the North Wales coast
The course was in great condition for February and was, basically, empty. Beautiful weather and views. Really nice clubhouse and super friendly staff. Definitely coming back to play again.
Isle of Purbeck Golf Club - Purbeck Course

THE MOST STUNNING VIEWS IN ALL BRITAIN. A fact.
The walk and views are incredible and most of the holes look stunning but the fairways and greens are shocking. It's a links style course with heathland vibes too but it's so dry that the fairways are just concrete-like earth and patches of dead weed grass. The greens have hundreds of pot holes from unrepaired pitchmarks, to which there are lots of signs saying repair but no one seems to bother. Honestly the worse greens I've played on.
I'd still recommend the course to anyone. £25 is a bargain but I sort of wish they'd charge £75 and invest the money in a sprinkler system and sort the greens out too! I've played lots of links and often in summer the fairways are burnt out but the greens are always excellent.
The clubhouse is a beauty and the terrace bar overlooks all of Dorset. Stunning, stunning views and the day I played it was wall to wall sunshine. The 5th hole is like something from a dream. It rivals anything from Cypress Point or Pebble Beach - that's how good this course should be. Thinking about it Pebble Beach is $250 a round and it shows.
If I had a couple of million quid I'd throw it all into this course and make it the best in the world because, honestly, it should be up there with the above mentioned courses.
I'll 110% play again but maybe in the winter when it's had some rain.
Anyway, repair your pitchmarks!
Horsley Lodge Golf Club

The best greens in all Derbyshire. Honestly, the best. The course is relatively short but you need to be in the fairway as there are trees everywhere and you'll be totally blocked out. The course is pretty hill (it is in Derbyshire!) but well laid out and you don't have other wayward groups in your fairway. The greens are a thing of beauty. So true, good pace and with huge slopes. Sooooo fun much.
I played alone and a 4 ball in front were awful but didn't let me through, which, technically, is fair enough as a single player has no standing (a ridiculously out-dated rule) so I played the front 9 twice - one of the best thing about having two loops of 9 that start and finish at the clubhouse. I've played before so I wasn't really missing out plus I like to have a good practise when I'm playing alone.
Clubhouse bar and 10th hole coffee shop has reopened, obviously with some limitations. Staff are friendly and the pro shop is well stocked and well priced.
Apart from Kedleston Park (which is £50 more for a round) and Cavendish in Buxton it's right up there as the best course in Derbyshire.
