Lonnie Poole Golf Course at North Carolina State University
Played On 02/15/2023Course has a lot of wear from excess play divots in key spots.. pace was fine on front side and two players dropped out for back. The twosome in front of me turned to three by12 hole..then 5or 6 by the 15th. Throw in the golf team member with coach jumping in behind me on the course once hitting into a green before I reached it and practicing behind me while I am waiting on 6players in front of me… I just left the course. Probably wont be back anytime soon. There always is something going on at this course dysfunctional .
Lake at Carolina Trace Country Club
Played On 11/18/2023I need to play it more often
The course has its challenging holes and some wide open holes. You still need to golf your ball . Lakes course has 3 of the areas toughest par 3s.
Fall is tough because of the leaves to find your ball in the fairway but good course to play in the Sandhills/Sanford area.

Good family course. Getting a lot of play because members and daily pay options are limited in RDU area, now. This is great for WW but not for golfers looking for value places to play.
It doesn't help with pace when the foursome in front splits up at the turn in two groups and on 16th hole a local jumps out to play in front of you. Then proceeds to need 3 off the tee to get 125 yards.
City of Raleigh or county of Wake needs to get involved in keeping golf alive in the area as it continues to grow. WW will be soon so oversaturated it will pack its success too by frustrating better players who will seek other options.

It’s aiiiight. Nothing special and mix of skills on the course so so expect slow play. One of the only daily fee full courses in area so your choices are limited.

This is a good course. Good challenge for all handicaps.
Greens must roll 11-12, sometimes felt like 13-14, which I love.
Not tremendously long course --which I don't need at this point.
Wil-Mar Golf Club
Played On 11/04/2012Family owned - accommodating staff - great for high handicaps and beginners
This course is a value course. I.e. Chevy Cavalier or Ford Focus.....low cost golf. It reminds of the first course I learned to play. With bermuda greens, it is better than prior year's beginner course use to be. It plays a little slow at times because it accommodates new and high handicap golfers--but golf needs more players so where else can you learn. It has some rough patchs like a biginner course would like tee boxes, but you still have to put the ball in the hole no matter the condition or length. Greens are not always flat so as the new greens take root they will be able to speed of greens and make it challenging even for better players. Mostly I've revisted to help support golf at the grassroots level and help keep these places in business for new golfers. Down home folks who are generally friendly and love the game...................
Falls Village Golf Course
Played On 10/29/2012Pace was unusually fast..normally very slow
The choices above to evaluate are too narrow and selective.
So here's the narrative. I've played every type of course you can image....Pebble Beach to Lakeshore and Shadow Creek to the worst podunk course on earth .....private and public, been a member of 3 private courses, Falls Village is what it is. You will need to play your golf ball and you do not have a lot of golf ball spraying luxury. It is not close to pristine and course is similar to Lochmere in difficulty and condition. Very few public options in immediate area, better greens than Crossings, better course than Hillandale and Lakeshore. For the area, $35 w/cart weekend seems like a fair charge....less week days. Anything more they are being greedy, have a bad business model or need to invest in improving conditions. Comparatively to Sandhills courses like The Carolina and many others in the same price range, it is worth taking the drive now and then for better conditions and value.
In summary, enjoy the game, play fast and repair your divots. It is always better to be on the golf course than doing chores!
Hello. Thank you for reviewing the course. We apologize for the delay of play during your round. This is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. We work hard to accommodate everyone who visits our course and to best control pace allowing everyone to finish in a reasonable amount of time. We will continue to look for ways to improve. Thank you for playing Lonnie Poole Golf Course at North Carolina State University. We hope to see you again soon.
