Worth the hour drive!

Course is probably one of the better conditions courses in the area. Greens are perfect speed. Not too fast, definitely not slow. Members/players who were out enjoying the weather, jumped at the chance to let me play through. Very nice peeps,

I think it was head pro/mgr that checked me in. My kinda pro, laid back, but friendly.

Gotta lil windy, made some holes play super tough, but I loved it, made ya really think.

Extremely good value. Will play again soon.

Nicely done Links of Jax, nicely done…;)

Top Course for Capital Area.

Piper was in pretty great shape all things considered. It had rained a lot overnight and there was a large remnant of fog in places. I hadn’t played Piper in over 3 years. My game has certainly grown since the last time, cuz, while long from the whites, I still scored very well.

I really liked Eagle Creek, really I did.

I really liked playing Eagle Creek, really I did. I thought the holes were really interesting, it really tested your game management skills. Lots of doglegs. Lots of elevation changes. I am sure, in fact I am positive, any other year, it woulda been one of my top 3 courses., You certainly do not need your driver. I hit one driver all day...smoked it...cut off a good bit of left to right dogleg left side of fairway...100yds out...last pic is the lie...terrible...disheartening.

Problem is....the condition. It was awful. It looks like the superintendent/greenskeepers tried, but gave up. Many many many bare spots in the middle of fairways, The greens also, bare patches everywhere.(pic 3)...Not a single putt of any length today that didn’t have to travel thru a thin spot. Not one. I guess the “regulars” have given up too. I fixed many ball marks. some cups looked like a few putter heads dove in to retrieve the ball.

I really liked this course, didn’t like the nearly hour long drive to find it in such bad shape. Save your play for next year. I am sure it will be in tip top condition, and it’ll test you...make you think. Well, at least I hope so.

Greens are great! Keep it in the fairway & manage your shots.

Edgewood is, and always has been a treat. I came on a day when there was a pretty big outing just finishing up. I was the first tee time available and the ball was in the air at that time. No wait, no hurry either. My first impression was that the fairways seemed somewhat...what’s a good description...THIN, just not a lot of plushness inside the 1st cut..... But, so were the last five courses I played. A “got beat down all summer long w/ magnified cart presence” kinda thang. The greens were pretty fast. Relatively equal in speed throughout.

Edgewood is a shotmakers course. It has character. You can’t just go out and start bombing it like Bryson, with a flip wedge to the green. Keeping the big dog covered up can mean a smiley face and circles on your card. Game management skills are rewarded here. Know when to be aggressive, and when to lay up. My game has come a long way,...it is not as challenging as it once was. But it still has its spots that’ll get your attention. During these times, it is an excellent way to spend some time outdoors & enjoy yourself.

Now, I played during “twilight” ...so a discounted fee of $15 for 18holes w/cart was phenomenal. NOTE: It took me only 50 min to complete the front 9, and finished 18holes in 2hrs 10min. Even if you don’t get a discounted rate, it’s most certainly worth it. Just remember, you have 13 other clubs in the bag other than driver, use ‘em.

Great Staff!

Okay, the course was in terrible shape. The greens and fairways were aerated about a month ago and the laxk of water, and attentiona has left the fairways and greens extremely bumpy, and nearly impossible to get a good line. Their were a lot of burnt out spots, and spots where you could imagine water from the sprinkler system pooled up, and drowned the life out of the grass. HOWEVER, the staff were excellent, from outside services to the Golf Shop to the Bar/Grill, all were very friendly, and the Lunch I had was very tasty.
