Fun layout, but not dramatic

Overall, it was a nice course. Conditions were very good, greens were in good condition and fair, course was wet but played well.

The layout was a fun layout, if it was on flat land. I was disappointed that a course in the mountains failed to take advantage of the mountains. There were only minor elevation changes. The routing was well designed forcing the golfer to shape the ball off the tee both left and right.

Dramatic even for Strantz

If you are a fan of Mike Strantz (and most people love or hate his courses), than you will love this course. Even if you think Tobacco Road is too tricked up, this course is a must visit. The elevation changes off the tee box are dramatic as you fire your tee shot through a chute of trees to generous fairways that seem to funnel the ball into play. That isn’t to say it is without challenging shots, but it is forgiving where it needs to be. I honestly couldn’t get the smile off my face for the first several holes.

The Course condition was very good, no problems there. Really hard to believe you get this quality of a course at this value gets as little play as it does, likely due to the location. It is out there in farm country.

Not much here

Overall, it was a boring course but was in good condition. Pace of play on a Sunday afternoon is expected to be slow, but over 5 1/2 hours is never acceptable. The front 9 is very straight forward. On many fairways you can see the hole previous and the next hole on your left or right. The back 9 was considerably more challenging with a couple of interesting holes.

Not a course I would return to play again. Might be worth a single trip, but there are a lot of much more enjoyable courses in the area.

Hi KidIcarus08,

It can be a little frustrating when the course wasn't what you thought it was going to be and when the pace of play is slow. We never want to hear that pace of play is over five hours and will look into the issue.

Hidden gem

There may be a reason there are so few reviews on this course. The locals who play it don't want anyone else to know about it.

What a fun course. Great layout, great conditions, and very reasonable green fees. The course rolls through hills and takes advantage of the natural contours of the area. There a lots of homes on the course, but that doesn't take away from several wonderful vistas of the mountains. Number 9 is a par 6, 800 yards from the tips. To be honest, it is a pretty boring hole, just long, but how often do you play a par 6? Lots of great golf holes, especially for the money.

Make the trip, it's worth it.

Fun course to work on your short game

You won't need many drivers. No Par 5's, lots of Par 3's, but this is NOT a Par 3 course. Great place to walk and work on your irons and short game.

When we went, the was in decent condition. The greens rolled true. For the price, I highly recommend to new golfers or experienced golfers who want to work on their short iron shots.

Tougher than it looks

Overall, it is a fun track. It has 3 of the toughest finishing holes in the area. Don't be fooled by the short yardage, with 6 x Par 3's, it looks short on the scorecard, but it plays longer. The course is tight, and every hole threatens a double bogey or worse with an errant shot. The Par 5 number 2 is one of the most difficult (yet fair) Par 5’s in the area.

Bring a lot of golf balls, especially during the summer when the rough is up. Again, it is a fun course and worth your time. Check Golf Now or Groupon for good rates. They usually offer member rates (small discount) to miltiary if you ask for it.

The course is very walkable. However, there is one long walk in between holes 15 and 16. During the weekend, the course usually has a shuttle.
