Vista Plantation

I revisited this course after an extended hiatus. First impressions matter: the staff interactions were friendly, accommodating, and professional. I was able to begin the round early and the pace of play was excellent. For an executive layout, the course provided numerous holes that were thoughtfully designed with various options. Water is ubiquitous on the course and there are a few risk/reward choices that make for an entertaining round. Greens were well maintained; sand traps were raked and fair. Good course for iron and wedge practice. A great value!

A friend of mine and I played the course yesterday with many favorable reactions. He had played the course previously, and he recognized numerous improvements since his last visit: fairways have been shaped; rough has received a manicure; and greens have been replaced. As a first time visitor, I was impressed by speed of play, quality of greens, fairways, tee boxes, and bunkers. The rough was shaved a bit and quite tame. The course length was a fair test with five par 5s and most exceeded 500 yards from the white tees. In addition, the par 3s were challenging from a distance perspective coupled with the speed and firmness of the greens. We played the day after a strong rainfall, and we imagined how tough the greens would be without the softened conditions from the previous night. Bathrooms are being built in multiple locations; ball cleaners are an issue. Numerous ball cleaners were missing. More distance markers would be a great addition to the course without much cost. If we did not have distance aids, we would have been unfairly challenged on a few holes. The staff exhibited courtesy, professional attitudes, and genuine enthusiasm. A very pleasant round that took approximately 3 hours and 20 minutes.

Rediscovering The Habitat

Two of us played yesterday afternoon in stellar weather conditions: moderate temperature, no humidity, and no wind. The fairways and greens were a bit dry because of drought conditions in Florida; however, the course has been well-maintained. From the blue tees, many holes required precise shots, occasional long carries over water, or shots over environmentally protected areas. Bunkers were well groomed; tee boxes were clearly marked. The front 9 offers great diversity with challenging par 5s, scenic par 3s, and testing par 4s. The back 9 is not quite as unique as the front layout: lengthy par 4s and par 5s that run on a parallel layout that is a bit redundant; the exceptions are #10 and #18 which are quite a test. The course had quite a few patrons for a mid-afternoon round, but it was a fair test from the blue tees. A cautionary bit of advice: several holes with long, forced carries might be a daunting task for seniors even from the senior tees. Good luck!

Gorgeous layout with multiple challenges from tee to green.

The course was in pristine condition: smooth, fast, undulating greens; well-groomed fairways; professionally maintained sand traps. The par 5s offer great risk/reward options from the different tee box locations. The par 4s provide multiple choices that reward the big hitter and the precision shot maker. The par 3s were fair, but the large greens created additional challenges. The natural setting was impressive in late autumn. The course was a tremendous value when I used GolfNow.

The front nine layout has imaginative features, challenging doglegs, narrow fairways, and risk/reward options that force players to consider options.

The greens were dry, firm, and needed more attention. Fairways were in great shape; sand traps well-maintained. Narrow fairways can present quite a challenge during windy conditions. A great bargain courtesy of GolfNow!
