Skyway Golf Course at Lincoln Park West
Played On 05/22/2019Challenging Test
Narrow and undulating nine hole course placing a premium on accurate shot making. Fast sloping fairways can penalize relatively good shots. Greens are fast but we'll maintained. Course layout is unique, but barely missing the fairway means weeds, mounds and a lost ball or unplayable lie as a first or second cut of rough hardly exists. Regardless, a much needed public inner City course providing a two hour test of one's golf skills. Recommended for it's accessibility to all urban golfers.
Skyway Golf Course at Lincoln Park West
Played On 05/30/2018Unusual Lincs Course
A nine hole course demanding one keep it in the fairway, or be prepared for unplayables and lost balls in long rough and mounds covered with weeds, especially on the three tough par 5's. Actually, ascending the mounds lining the fairways is prohibited. Regardless, the course is a fair test of one's skills sometimes complicated by the winds which tend to blow regularly. Still, it's a golfing oasis in crowded Jersey City where only the elites can play private Liberty National.
Kissena Park Golf Course
Played On 05/23/2018Confidence Enhancing Course
Short at under 5000 yards and no par 5's, straight forward par 4's and a bunch of difficult par 3's coupled with 2 inch uncut rough so keep it on the fairway. For truly mediocre players (15 to 25 handicappers) who aren't bombers, it's challenging enough. For better players,Clearview, Forest Park, Van Cortlandt and, of course, the more difficult suburban courses. Affordable and accessible neighborhood course.
Silver Lake Golf Course
Played On 08/28/2015Silver, not gold
Fairway bald spots and poor drainage on four holes detract from an interesting and fairly challenging course. Staff is friendly and accomodating and the price is right.
Sprain Lake Golf Course
Played On 9/18/2013Trouble Can Find You
Sprain Lake is a moderately challenging course presenting an interesting variety of holes in a relatively short layout. The fairways tend to be lined with trees and the occasional crosscutting streams and ponds that will snare marginally off line shots. The greens are well maintained, fairly flat and medium sized. There are bald spots on many of the fairways.
On balance an enjoyable experience on a course that can be sneakily unsettling.
Dunwoodie Golf Course
Played On 8/21/2013The course is challenging, yet fair for all skill levels
Dunwoodie's staff is friendly and accomodating and the golf carts surprisingly have GPS, totally unexpected on a public course. The course is reasonably well maintained, has interesting elevation changes and slow, flat greens that could use some alterations. Overall playing here is a satisfying, mostly rewarding experience.
