Played On 05/12/2023Used to be so good. For the current price - it’s just ok.
Seems like everytime I play Frisco Lakes, there’s at least one thing about it that causes me to say, “I can’t believe they’re charging $80-115 for this!” Love the layout. Some fun holes on this course. But conditions are not always optimal. As was the case playing it a few days ago - fairways were still a bit dead and greens were just punched a week or so ago (so putts didn’t roll true). I remember when this was course was consistently well maintained and much cheaper - it was one of my favorites in the North suburbs DFW area.

Played On 08/13/2022Friendly guys in the pro shop… that’s about where the enjoyment ends.
Starter gives everyone a whole long spiel before the round about having fun and it’s ok if you play the wrong hole, as long as you have fun. Oh ok, great. Sounds like a recipe for overlapping. And then the marshall came up to our group 3 times on the front 9 to remind us that we had to be in at the turn in 2 hours. Great… would be nice if we weren’t waiting on the groups in front of us on every shot since they were playing whichever green was closest and if they course didn’t send people out later than their actual tee times. Dumb layout no matter how much they try to tell people it plays as two different holes.
Want to play a 9-hole course in DFW? Go play Watters Creek executive course - A true 9-hole executive course. Want to play a full 18? Go play anywhere else but here.
Ridgeview Ranch Golf Club
Played On 08/04/2022Improving on revival, but still a rough round
Played Ridgeview many times over the years but had avoided for a while as conditions went terribly downhill over the last 2 years. First must say, the staff is always super friendly. However, when it comes to reviewing the on course stuff - Ridgeview is still a rough 4.5 hours, if you can even finish in under that.
The course conditions are decent. Improving on what had become a dog track lately, but it’s all relative. Better than years past, and better than the other immediately nearby dog tracks in Plantation and Twin Creeks, but still not as well maintained as other Plano/Frisco/Allen courses in the area.
Pace of play is horrid. Never a marshall or starter in sight, so too many people insist on going off as twosomes/singles and backing up the course.
Also, how is there not a single water jug on the course, especially in the dog days of summer? Thanks for replacing those with new signage to tell me which hole I’m on… gee thanks! Lol.
As I said, the conditions are improving from its sad state the last few years, but still would rather drive over to Watters, Pecan Hollow, Heritage Ranch, etc for better value play and conditions.
Duck Creek Golf Course
Played On 07/23/2022Hackers Paradise - go elsewhere
I’m all for muni golf and growing the game. But, wow, this place is bad. Nearly 3 hours for the front 9! Watched guys in front of us take 8-9 min on every hole. At what point do you not pick up and realize you’re slowing down pace of play. Ok, maybe these guys just did not know etiquette… yet, I saw Marshall’s riding around and never saying a word to speed things up. Absolutely ridiculously slow pace of play.
Speaking of hackers, felt like sprayed shots came coming towards our tee box on different holes. Poorly laid out course.
Course conditions? Yikes. You needed a hammer to put a tee into the ground on every tee box, if you could find a patch of grass on it. Fairways had some bare spots and were hardpan for the most part. I will say, greens were in solid condition, probably because so many hackers play here and never hit the green - thus, not needing to fix their pitch marks. LOL
Not a long course at all from the back. Easily scorable.
Plenty of other courses in DFW. I was desperate for a last minute time and came here. Plenty of courses that are relatively the same price and a much better play. Even if you have to pay a little more, it’s worth it than playing here.

Always a great round at Buffalo Creek. Course is in excellent condition - greens, fairways, tee boxes, bunkers, you name it. Pace is expected to be busy on a Saturday morning, but not terribly slow. Staff was nice enough to let me go on with another single in front of a six-some (who booked 3 and 3 as back to back times) instead of pairing us as singles in their groups.
Love this course layout! Some scorable short par 4 holes, but also some challenge holes where strategy and a precise tee shot can either make for solid hole or a big number (if you take the long route to the hole and miss the fairway).
Definitely love this gem a little further out from Dallas proper. Always a great time! Will be back again soon.
Twin Creeks Golf Course
Played On 04/26/2022There’s a golf course in the middle of a park
Never understood people who are not golfing but have the desire to walk through a golf course while people are playing. I understand the weather is nice, but I’ve never thought, “ooooh great day to possibly get hit by a golf ball while standing in the middle of the fairway walking my kids/dog.” Absolutely idiotic. But, I can’t fully blame the people - responsibility should fall on the course for allowing the walking public to just meander on the course. Not a marshall in sight to monitor pace of play or anything!
Speaking of pace of play, seems like everyone here wants to play as a single and stack up people on a tee box one after the other. Again - where is a marshall?
Course itself is nothing to write home about either. Bare spots on fairways and near/on greens. I’d pay $10 at best for this dog track. Certainly not the $60 they’re charging.

Played On 07/07/2018Best all-around course I've played in DFW so far
Great experience playing at Coyote Ridge last Saturday morning. For $80 on a Saturday morning, course conditions and amenities definitely helped justify the price. Was greeted with assistance for bag pick-up when I arrived at the clubhouse to check-in. Carts include GPS, greens were soft from the rain the day before but still ran smooth enough, and we ran into 2 different cart girls 5 times our entire round (twice on the front 9 on holes 2 and 6, three times on the back 9 on holes 12,15,17). Marshalls were in sight throughout most of the round. Staff even offered to clean off our clubs upon our return to the clubhouse. Everyone there seemed to be moving along, which was nice to see, as I've been to plenty of courses where I've never seen a marshall for an entire round or a cart girl more than once on a busy Saturday.
As for the course - I loved that the holes varied in different ways. There were a few challenging holes with plenty of hazards/bunkers in front of the greens, and it definitely forces you to play almost all your clubs in your bag throughout the round. As I mentioned, because of the rain the day before, the fairways and greens were a bit soft, but no real damage to the course.
Overall, a fun round that took just a shade under 4 hours for a twosome on Saturday morning (9:40-1:30). I will definitely return here again.
Ridgeview Ranch Golf Club
Played On 06/25/2018Not much variation but still fun for the value
I've played Ridgeview plenty of times as it's the closest course to where I live, along with having the practice membership there. A lot of the holes play similarly - Par 4s that have thin openings in front of the green due to large trees closing the path to the front of the green, straight away Par 3s or downhill Par 3s (don't get me wrong, the downhill Par 3 on 17 is a bit tougher with the bunker on the front right and less room for error), and long straight away Par 5s with hills to the right side of the fairway.
Nonetheless, Ridgeview is usually maintained pretty well. Greens roll quite fast most days, and good tee shots down the stripe are usually rewarded with generous carry down the fairway. Cart girl is usually spotted throughout the round as well, which is always a plus. I've played here on weekends and throughout the week (both twilight and during the day). Understandably, weekdays will have it's share of singles and doubles stacked up as they try to just make as much money as they can then, but it sure can get annoying at times to see a bunch of singles/doubles stacked up at a tee box (with no marshall to be seen) while behind a foursome. Luckily, I've never run into that on a weekend and force a long round as they're much better equipped for the weekend warriors.
The Tribute Golf Club - Old Course
Played On 06/23/2018Fitting name for an ode to Scottish links
The Tribute is a fantastic course that is obviously much tougher than it looks when the wind plays heavily into every shot. Greens are large, so simply getting a GIR isn’t enough. The challenge was fun, could get frustrating, but nothing that being selective with your clubs couldn’t overcome. The course is very well maintained with some of the best greens in DFW.
Staff friendliness is top notch as well - from the greeters, to the shop, to the starter, to the cart girl constantly making rounds, and marshalls spotted circling various holes. Can’t say I could pay the price every weekend, but it’s definitely worth the price to play if you’re looking to ham up for an elite course and worth the trip north of the Metroplex.
Let us first say that we are so glad to hear you enjoyed your visit. We work hard to create an enjoyable experience so you can focus on enjoying yourself and let us do the rest. We also want to thank you for your honest and constructive criticism of the course.
We are going to escalate your review to our team in charge and do everything we can to improve before your next game.
Thank you for visiting and playing at Ridgeview Ranch Golf Club. We hope to see you again soon!
