Southern Pines Golf Club
Played On 09/06/2018Needs Serious Work
Played this course back in February. Rate was $25 for winter.. Played three times in that month, great course conditions, greens, fairways ,bunkers etc. Joined the Elks to get discounted rates because i enjoyed it so much.. Got an original $49 rate! which was reduced to $39.. folks in front of us got a $29 "internet" rate.. seems to me for paying a yearly due to the Elks Club of Whispereing Pines of $200 should provide the cheapest rates available.. not so, but the gentleman who adjusted the rate was VERY nice and apologetic and accommodating as i had met him before playing in February..
Now to the golf... The mowers need replacing as it was leaving large clumps of grass everywhere on the fairway... The flagsticks on the second and third holes were not in.. had to call the shop for the rest to be put in... the course is in sad shape from the conditions i had in FEBRUARY! Cart paths are downright dangerous! It is going downhill fast.. such a shame as the course layout ranks up there with the best in area with probably the best set of par 3's.. greens were dead in spots and overwatered in others.. fairways lacked a consistency of grass or lack thereof.. really disappointed.. if Legacy is serious about restoring conditions, which it should be.. then i shall return.. but until then, it's not worth the money to play even with those wonderful par threes!

Challenging but fair. Very quick greens, subtle and hard to read. Great par threes and finishing hole.
Only complaints that it was waaay overwatered and didn’t care for the green dye. No roll if you hit wet spots and even plugged on some drives!

Easy on the eyes. Fair but challenging. Green complexes classic. Don’t get above the hole. Brand new carts. Best deal around. Will be back.
