Desert Pines Golf Club
Played On 04/29/2014Course true to motto "Vegas's most strategic course"
It's important to know I'm not a great golfer. I shoot in the 90s on a good day, so that said I had an amazing round at Desert Pines.
Let me start by saying, the course conditions were phenomenal. Many of the fairways seemed like carpets - you can see them in my images, and the greens ran fast and true. Looking at the greens, they chose moderate pin placements and I was able to two putt just about every hole.
Now here is where I had the challenge. As a not so amazing 90s golfer, I can hit from the tee relatively straight; however there were a few holes where the fairways were very narrow, maybe a landing area 15-20 yards wide. Now for me off the tee, that is right at the edge of my comfort zone. Despite this I found the fairway more often than not.
My favorite shots of the day as a mediocre golfer was going for optional carries to hit the greens even after two shots on some par 5s which is great for me.
I can't really think of any major downsides other than a little bit of wind that picked up at the very end of the round, and beers were $5.50 (I can get them for $4.00 on my home course)
As I keep working to improve my game I will always include this course in my annual trips to Vegas, and can't wait to score even better next time (I shot a 94).
All in all the staff was super friendly, and I could tell they cared about me, and golf. Warming up using automatic tees was a first for me, but it made the experience pretty choice. I even got 10% off online because I searched for a promo code in google go figure.
Glaze Meadow at Black Butte Ranch
Played On 03/28/2014Early season near alpine golf at it's finest.
I had a great time playing this course. It was early season for them so it was not 100% green yet, but it seemed very well manicured.
I can't wait to come back later this summer and play again when it is all greened up. There is nothing like playing in the shadows of mountains, and this truly is a real golf gem for the entire state and maybe west coast. Heck, I might even retire here!
