Played On 10/23/2020Always value for money
Always in good condition relative to the price and they care about their greens. Not a lot of risk/reward holes if you have good control but just enough to keep you on your toes while you enjoy a round.
Scenic Woods Golf and Country Club
Played On 09/29/2020Great course
Tee boxes and greens were in great condition (don’t believe the break you see...) and fairways good. A forgiving course with a significant amount of wide fairways. A few really nice risk/reward holes that rewarded the conservative with birdie possibilities and forgave the risky attempts with well planned clearings around corners.
Lots of water as a fairly wide river meanders through course so know your club distances. Not sure how buggy this course would be mid summer due to the slow moving water and farmers fields surrounding the course but definitely will play there again. Quiet pleasant and friendly. Priced nicely as well...

Played On 04/05/2017Hidden Lake Review
The course was in excellent shape for being one of the first courses open in the area. The layout is a bit confusing where all the holes converge so pay attention to the signage or you'll end up on the wrong tee but there were only a couple of holes where they needed safety fence or the tee and green were too close together. The designer put the trees and bunkers in all the right places so accuracy helps but the old course is fairly open so can be forgiving as long as you are not near the exterior of the course where it is all old growth. This course is usually more expensive then I like to play but this was a good deal for the early season and I can see that they spend money on their facility and courses so I might be back. The hidden lake was quite scenic and overall a pleasant atmosphere.
Scenic Woods Golf and Country Club
Played On 10/24/2016Nice and easy
Fairly flat and not too many challenges but too errant a shot and the scenic woods will gobble up your ball and not give it back. If you can shape the ball there is a few challenging holes and a couple of nice challenges for long hitters to test their accuracy. All greens slope back to front and do not break as much as the read implies so putting is no 'gimmie'. I will go back.
Southern Pines Golf and Country Club
Played On 09/08/2015Practice Your short game
Easy course and well maintained with courteous staff. Great course to practice your irons both short and long. You do not need a driver on this course at all. Had the rare privilege of being escorted around the course by a red tail hawk which was a real treat.
Empire Springs Golf Club
Played On 07/06/2015Nice and friendly links style course
While it doesn't actually put the golf ball in the hole for you this is a nice and forgiving course. Links style and not a lot of trouble to get into on this course. Some water, a few bunkers and some out of bounds but nothing that really intimidates. Great learning or casual round course. Wonderful staff. It is also fairly new and well maintained as a course.
Streetsville Glen Golf Club
Played On 07/02/2015Great course to get out for a quickie
I was able to play 18 holes in 2hrs 45min. Lots of single players out in the morning during the week so it is great to play if you just don't have time for a 6000+ yard course. While short, everything you expect is there, sand, water, blind tee and approach shots, doglegs, risk reward shots and some rather unforgiving greens. While there is a bit of construction in the back nine it really does not diminish the quality of the course. I'll play this course again.
Tyandaga Golf Course
Played On 08/10/2014Chanllenging Greens
Overall the course is worth a try. Not very long and the doglegs not too severe but it lots of elevation, undulation and some severe frustration on the greens that were in excellent condition and entirely unforgiving. Four GIRs that resulted in bogeys. Slow play when I was there but everyone handled it well and to be expected on a Sunday afternoon. I will go back and try to take back my dignity from those nasty greens.
Chippewa Creek Golf and Country Club - Red Falcon/Gold Eagle
Played On 05/19/2014Nice course
conditions not the best but most courses are suffering from the winter this year. Not a bad course with a little of everything to offer to keep your practice up.
Caistorville Golf Club
Played On 04/28/2014Gentle first round
If you are a beginner or not in the mood for anything too challenging this is a great course. Some length, doglegs, water, couple of tight fariways but no elevation or blind shots. Greens have some undulation to them too so you can be quickly dissapointed if you rush your putt. The only constructive critizism to say is that I found the front nine harder than the back and I'd rather that be reversed.
For the price and pace of play, a wonderful course.
I'll go back for sure this summer.
Knollwood Golf Club - New
Played On 10/22/2013The New Course, in my opinion, is just as good as the Old Course, but longer. It was also in excellent condition, especially for the time of year.
I played and enjoyed the Old Course at Knollwood. While short it was challenging. The New Course, in my opinion, is just as good as the Old Course, but longer. From the back tees you get over 6000 yards which makes the need for 14 clubs in your bags more necessary. It being October I tend to expect the condition of the course to be somewhat lax but it was in excellent condition for any time of the year. Undulated, doglegged, gaurded greens, some significant water and a couple of tight tee shots allowed me to really wish I was playing better on that day!
Oak Gables Golf Club - Maple Course
Played On 10/21/2013Each time I play this course I like it a little more.
Have played here a few times now and really enjoy the course. All I can say is that if you want a fast game in the weekday mornings or late afternoons that offers some challenge then give this course a try. It was quiet when I played and got through the round in 2hrs and 15min.
Knollwood Golf Club - Old
Played On 10/25/2012Worth the time.
The course was in great shape for the time of year. The old growth punished errant tee shots but the fairways were forgiving and not too undulated nor was the course very long or tiring for those who favor the walk even though a few tee boxes were set on top of hills. The course is well laid out offers a nice challenge while not taxing the brain too much nor requiring long drives... straight... but not long. I did feel as though they succeeded in their claim to find a balance with nature, wildlife and the golfer. A peaceful and satisfying round of golf and I will be back recommend it to others.
Chedoke Civic Golf Course - Martin
Played On 10/08/2012A course in my backyard
It is nice to live in a city that is not only surrounded by golf courses but three are within city limits! Martin is one of them. Great course for practicing distance and straight shots. Everything in the front nine is long and straight. The back is shorter and has a few doglegs but nothing to worry about. This is a good course to practice your driver if it has not been working lately as you can find most errant shots no matter where they go. The course is on the side of the escarpment so you do spend a lot of time walking uphill or downhill so unless that's your thing get a cart. For municipal course it was in very good shape but a few of the greens needed attention. Overall nothing to complain about and I was five minutes from home.
Thanks for a very amusing and informative review! I'm sure this will prove helpful for new guests.
