Pheasant Run Resort
Played On 8/15/2013Country club golf at a resort
Pace of play was a bit slow but not too slow. Staff on course and in club house were super friendly and courteous. Clubhouse is part of the resort with a couple of restaurant choices depending on time you are golfing. Course was well maintained. No bare spots on those fairways. Rough was a bit long but seeing how it is a dry August that was probably more for drought and brown grass issues than making the course play harder. Everything else was lush; the greens were showing a bit more break than they actually were. There were even a couple drivable par 4's. A great day of golf overall and will certainly return for more.
Turkey Creek Golf Course
Played On 8/1/2013Not bad for a muni at this price
Paying $14 to play per person with cart I would be hard pressed to say anything bad about the course. After all that price barely gets you 9 holes walking anymore let alone 18 & a cart with a course that has a unique layout, moderate difficulty with all the water that comes into play and for a municipal course isn't in too bad of a shape. Bunkers were a bit scarce but had fluffy sand in them, greens were a nice shade yet manicured. Some holes did need some reseeding/re-sod in spots and some roughs were a bit patchy as well but hey it's a muni for $14 not Ruffled Feathers for $60. Pace of play was just a hair over 3 and 1/2 as we did wait on some holes and the longest wait of the day was teeing off on 1 as we had 3 groups of 2 &3 go out ahead of us. Staff was nice and friendly also it was a laid back atmosphere so if you're looking for a quick, dirty and cheap, hassle free round of golf give Turkey Creek a try.
West at White Pines Golf Course
Played On 7/4/2013Straight forward golf at a decent price.
White Pines is an old course from 1928 so it's a bit straight forward. No island greens (water or sand) or other novelties of today's course designs. Greens are a bit tricky as many show more break than there actually is once the putt is hit. Private country club look and feel without the snobby attitude. Restaurant staff took a turkey sandwich and dressed it up to a club sandwich for one of our group and all without contempt or attitude so kudos to the staff on that. Course is very well maintained. Bunkers had sand but needed to be raked and fluffed up a bit since recent heavy rains and many a hole it was tough to tell where a ball was in the rough as it was a bit shaggy. Hey nobody's perfect right? Price was average overall as I remember playing the same course in the same shape for $14 less just years ago.
Un-Sandy beaches
The only real issue the two of us encountered is that the bunkers need about 50 cubic yards of sand each. After all the rain the mud issues and some ground under repair issue were to be expected. However there shouldn't be mud or hard pan sand in 9 out of every 10 bunkers. Otherwise this could be a gem of a course with some dupage county tax dollars to bring it up to snuff.
