Painted Desert Golf Club
Played On 08/13/2018course is worth the money
I haven't played Painted Desert in a while, so I didn't know what to expect. It was in pretty reasonable shape, especially considering how many other courses here in Las Vegas are in poor shape from the recent weather. Yes, the green are a bit shaggy, but they still roll true and at a decent speed.
I highly recommend Painted Desert.
Revere Golf Club - Concord Course
Played On 07/09/2018Great value for the money
I have played this in the past, so I knew what to expect. The course was in very good shape. There was some browning on the greens, but they were still moist and rolled true. We saw the cart girl 3 times during the round, which I consider to be good.
I only have 2 complaints about the course:
1. The only water out on the course that I could find were the drinking fountains at the rest stops, and the one by #14 green had been removed. While the cart came with 2 water bottles in the little cooler, that is pretty marginal in summer. This is Vegas, dudes - we really need more water!
2. The range balls are no longer free (I haven't been out here for a while), and a bucket of about 70 golf balls costs $13 if you aren't a Summerlin resident. That's kinda steep. It was offset by the very reasonable resident rate of $35 for the round, though. If I had paid $60 to play, I would have been a little PO'ed at shelling out another $13 for range balls...which is why I marked off-course amenities down to 3 stars.
All in all, a very good test of your game, and if you pay GolfNow rates, a great deal!
Stallion Mountain Golf Club
Played On 07/05/2018Course condition is slipping again
Let me preface this by saying that I have played this course multiple times over the past several years, and I really like the course layout. You can play it as easy or demanding, depending what tees you use. HOWEVER...
The course conditions are very poor right now. I realize that the greens have been aerated, but that doesn't explain the general browning of several greens. The fairways have also become marginal in many areas. It's a shame, because when conditions are good, it is a real joy to play, and the staff have always been unfailingly polite and courteous.
I paid $21 to play, which is probably about what it is worth right now. I hope conditions improve, but I don't hold out much hope since we are just coming into the real hot months of summer.
Black Mountain Golf & Country Club - Founders/Desert Course
Played On 05/28/2018Stay away - it's a dirt track
I hadn't played this course in several years, but the price was good so I thought I'd try it. Bad move...
The course is not being watered properly - even the tees were dead grass and dirt. The only bright spot were the greens - they are in great shape. However, there is almost no green grass to be found anywhere else.
Whoever owns this course is trying to cut costs everywhere. There is no real pro shop, and they don't sell new balls according to what I heard the bar and grill employee (who doubles as the prop shop guy and tee time checker) tell another golfer.
I don't see this course staying in business much longer if they don't start watering it.
