Highlands and Midlands

These 2 nines are a good test for the average players. Tee boxes were fairly kept. Greens were in good shape, but a bit slow; however with undulations it's fair. One cut or roll would be even better. Highlands is scenic with some high elevated tee boxes. Pace of play was moderate.
Staff were service was ok. They tag your beverage when purchasing; i guess for those who bring their own. You want customers to buy your items, then lower your prices at a reasonable price.

Good course

Staff was friendly, starter was able to let us play early, greatly appreciated because we had two groups. Tee box, fairways and greens were in great conditions. Much better than Royal Niagara, no geese droppings in any of the holes. You can't go wrong with a good deal in this course. we always play it at least once a year. Great 19th hole, overlooking the 9th and 18th holes of Battlefield.

Good value

It was a golf day for the boys, we booked two groups. The were probably the second or third flight in the morning. The staff was friendly but nothing special. There was no breakfast bar nor it was open. Starter was friendly and informative. Because of the warm hot weather lately its understandable that the course was a little bit brow. Tee box, fairways and greens were acceptable. The only draw backs was that, there are a lot of geese droppings on certain holes mainly the first, 17th and 18th hole. Total let down and unpleasant smell; not a pretty site. For a premium course they should do something about it. Aside from that its worth playing at discounted rate.

Expected a bit more

I finally got to play Whirpool for the first time. We were probably the second group to tee of early in the morning so pace was no issue. Pro shop staff was just ok. Most of the holes are straight forward and very little variations, which could be boring for some people. The speed of the greens were just ok, we were expecting a little more faster since it does boast that it holds the junior qualifying a few years back, we don't know if they still do. Some of the greens were damage, we don't know if it's the cause of a bad winter or something else, but we were slightly disappointed. Only good thing was we got the price discount from golf now, a saving grace. If you must experience the "famous" Whirpool, do so at discounted price.
There are other better courses in the vicinity to choose from such as Legends of Niagara either Battlefield or Ussher's Creek are both a better bet.

Fast Greens

This is my 3rd time playing Bond Head (2nd on the South course). Tee boxes and greens are well kept. The greens are always fast at Bond Head which is the primary test of this course. North course has a lot of blind shots off the tee and second shots, so beware if you don't like that sort of set up. South course is slightly more open style, not a true links but considering where it is, the set up is great. Slight breezy when we played, which is ok and still manageable. Staff are friendly and food is tastey but the portions could be a little bit more. Overall this is a good course for the price ($65 golfnow), definitely recommend it.

A feel good course

Generally a good lay out course, tee box and fairways were in good condition. Sandstraps were not bad. The greens were running nice and fast the day I played. A lot of people complained about the wind, that was nothing compare to playing in the Big Island like Hapuna. People also complain about planes passing by in their final approach to HNL airport, that's also nothing compared to Royal Woodbine in Toronto where I live. Believe me when I mean planes gets close its close! But to me that's just part of a course bringing its own uniqueness. Ko'olau also is a unique course. Staff were friendly. I was playing as a single, so I breezzed through no rush. Locals were friendly they let me by, told me to take my time; always nice to hear that when someone let you pass. Shot an 81(white tees), to me that's a great day! cause this is the time of the year I'm supposed to be shovelling snow! not swinging a golf club. Great deal from Golfnow $50.

Ko olau one unique gem; bring a camera! and your A game

If you want to experience a course that will grab your attention, this is it. You are litteraly at the bottom of the mountain ranges that seperates Honolulu and Kailua (on Kailua side). Being there you will see God's magnificient creation of the earth. When you reach the 15th go up to the black tees and you will see Kaneohe bay from there since your there you might as well tee off from there (a birdie hole). Staff was great Gary from Boston was very helpful. The wind doesn't blow much but it will rain once in a while but will only last 20 seconds! Then the sun will shine for the most part. The fairways and tees are still in good shape; however, some greens need attention. But still a good course if a discount is offered.

A pleasant course

This is a nice course situated in Waikoloa Village it winds through the condo village resort and the town itself. Fairways and greens are fair. Staff was friendly. There are a couple of holes that will grab your attention. Price was good with golfnow at $50 w cart. Be careful though the only drawback was the bunkers; they were like tiny pebbles stones than grainy sand. The greens were not as fast as the practice green, so you might come up short in the first few holes. Overall its a good course for the price.

If the wind is blowing hard, re-book your game!

This is a good golf course, but it was unfortunate that the day I played it the wind was howling mad. The course is on the north west coast of Kohala coast and sits on the side of a mountain with severe elevation changes, the course is exposed to the wind. Some good holes with nice views. The staff was polite even willing to postpone my round due to wind, but my time was limited. Best value is if you book it with Golfnow.com $70 for a 12:30 tee off time. You'd be crazy if you walk this course you need a cart!
