River Valley Golf Course
Played On 07/12/2014Decent course with potential.
Course was in good condition but we have had a lot of rain this year. Course is overpriced compared to the other courses in the area. I don't like the 18th green or the reeds that block your view of the green on 12. Course had very few players for a Saturday afternoon but that is the norm for this course because of the price and poor condition (reputation) in past years. Course is fair and there are places to miss on most holes. Good course to grab a few drinks and enjoy a round with friends.
Waveland Municipal Golf Course
Played On 07/05/2014This is a fun, mature course to play.
We played this course after the 4th of July and it wasn't as busy as I thought it would be. Course was in really good condition. Course has several mature trees and a good mix of doglegs. Course also has a good mix of holes that you can attack to go with a few holes that you have to try for par and be happy. Hole 3 is a bear cat but it is fair. Putting your drive in play is important on this course but you can score well if you aren't spraying the ball. My group keeps this course in our yearly rotation and we try to play it twice a year if we can. The GPS on carts was a nice addition as well.
Veenker Memorial Golf Course
Played On 07/04/2014Great course
This course forces you to use most of the clubs in your bag. You can't pull driver 14 times and swing away. You have to hit shots to certain distances to be in position to score well. Tee boxes have been beat up in the past but were in decent shape when we played. Course has a lot of trees and fast greens. Very fun course that rewards the player that can hit straight shots between 180-225 yards on several tee shots. There are several holes that you can drive the green but there is plenty of trouble if you are off with your drive. I highly recommend this course!
Honey Creek Golf Club
Played On 06/23/2014Fun course with a ton of potential
This course is just starting to reach its potential. The course has two distinctly different 9's. The front 9 having more of a links style feel and the back 9 is cut out of trees and a river valley. The greens need some work. The fairways needed work in the past years but they were much better this year. I'm sure the greens will improve as well. The back 9 forces you to hit shots from the tee with narrow/slanted fairways. You are forced to think about what shot you want to hit as well as how far you want to play each tee shot on the back. 11 is a scenic par 3 with a dramatic drop in elevation. Great course with some great deals on Golfnow.com.
