Allenmore Golf Course
Played On 10/21/2023Under Construction
I'm a long time Tacoma resident, played this course numerous times over several decades. This course is a gem when it's not under construction. I applaud the Allenmore management team for investing in this upgrade project. I'm sure in the end it will make the course a better but right now it's hard to golf there. The fairways are all chopped up with ditches, mounds, tire tracks, holes everywhere. The course only had 17 playable holes including a temporary 66 yard Par 3. The greens were great though. I've always said Allenmore has the best public greens in Tacoma. The renovation project which seems to be focused on the irrigation system is going on year 2. Hopefully it will be all done in 2024 and hopefully the management team won't raise the golf rates to pay for the upgraded sprinkler system. I look forward to golfing Allenmore again when everything is back to normal, but until then I'm booking my rounds elsewhere.
Whispering Firs Golf Club
Played On 05/29/2022Memorial Day
Played on Memorial Day. Staff must have had the day off. One person working the pro shop. Long line to check in. No starter on the first tee. Absolute chaos.
Putting greens are poor. Animal tracks leave bare spots all over the greens. I don’t think they change the hole position. Several greens were totally covered in tree debris. Seems like very little effort is given to maintaining the course.
This is what happens when management cares more about one course than the other. "Chaos" is an understatement.

Best golf course in Tacoma.
Greens are great always.
Staff friendliness I rated poor.
I had a talk with a greens keeper on the course and he was very friendly and courteous but the Pro shop attendant was the opposite. No greeting like "Hello" or "Good Morning". He just looked at me and expected me to read his mind. I didn't know he was waiting for me to tell him my tee time. I'm not a mind reader. Then he gives me the cart keys with a specific number on it. He tells me the cart is near the end of the row. I grab the very last cart in the row without checking the cart number. And now I messed up their cart rental system because I grabbed the wrong cart. Apparently I cannot follow instructions where I'm expected to look for my cart number somewhere in the row among all the carts.
Allenmore - why don't you lineup your power carts then write down the cart numbers then hand out the cart keys in that order starting with the first cart in the row? How hard is that? Make life easier on your Golf Shop attendant (and Me) so he doesn't have to deal with bone headed people like me.

Had a fun round of golf. Anytime you can golf rain-free here in the fall is good day. Course was in good shape. Greens were fast. Pace of play was good.
Hi, cpsw2013. Thank you so much for the great review. We are glad you had an incredible time, and we hope to see you again soon! Thanks for choosing Allenmore Golf Course.
Druids Glen
Played On 10/14/2021Weekday Round
Guy in the pro shop looked distracted. He could have been more helpful. Pace of play was 4.5 hours for a weekday round. Course lay out was fun. Greens were great but slower than they look. I think a riding cart is a must for the back 9. Speaking of riding carts. I had cart #83. Brakes were touchy as soon as you pressed on them they locked up. Suspension was non existent. I felt every bump. Guys in my group said their cart wasn’t any better.
Lake Spanaway Golf Course
Played On 04/21/2021Greens and bunkers
All greens were bumpy with bare spots. No smooth rolling surface. Most bunkers had thin wet compact sand. I was in a lot of them.

Course layout is challenging. Almost every hole has elevation change. Putting greens were in excellent shape. Worth the drive from Tacoma.

Tee boxes had not been cut the day I played and divots everywhere . Long grass between club and ball after being teed up. Greens in rough shape. Many ball marks ignored. Craters everywhere.

The only reason I play here is the Golf Now Hot Deals. Great price for 18 holes with a power cart. Other than that not much to rave about. If all other courses in my area have tournaments or no available tee times then I might book a round at Whispering Firs.
Greens need improvement. Fairways are chopped up. Players need to take more time fixing their ball marks and divots. Course layout is good and the amenities are good. Plan on spending 15 to 30 minutes checking in at the visitor's center.
Lake Land Village Golf Course - Generation I & II Course
Played On 07/15/2019Worth the drive
I enjoyed playing here. Greens and fairways were in excellent shape. My only complaint was that the grass on the tee box was a little long, on some holes almost as long as my tee. Started my front 9 on Gen 2 and finished on Gen 3. Narrow fairways with houses packed in on both sides on most holes. This course will challenge you to leave the driver in the bag and pick another club. You'll probably lose a lot of golf balls if you're not a straight hitter. Worth drive to play here.
Tahoma Valley Golf & Country Club
Played On 04/24/2019Temporary Tees
Many of the tee boxes were under construction. They've been rolled flat and sod was being laid out. Which meant the temp tees were move up making the holes shorter in yardage. The greens were in very good shape, firm and fast. My only negative is the small greens, I'll play the course again in a few months time when the grass grows in but I will call ahead to make sure the new tee boxes are in play.

One of the best public courses in Pierce County. Golfers of all abilities will find the lay out challenging.
Hi cpsw2013, thank you for taking the time to leave feedback about your recent round. We are currently replacing our entire golf course irrigation system which necessitates turning off our irrigation pumps for multiple days during active construction and then overwatering when we are able to turn the irrigation back on.
Our teams are working diligently to keep the course up in shape as we work through this maintenance period. We anticipate the project will be done this winter and the course will be in excellent shape for next spring! Please feel free to reach out with any additional concerns and we hope to see you on the course again soon.
