About
Let's just call a spade a spade here. I am not good, having just started playing last spring. However, I have become addicted to this stupid, awesome, frustrating, magnificent game. I try to play at least once every two weeks and enjoy checking out the various courses around Georgia. In some cases I've put the ball close to the green; other times I've taken out that lady's birdhouse on her back deck. My reviews are totally based on a beginner's perspective.

Pretty decent course close to Atlanta
I typically prefer to get up to the northern outskirts of Atlanta, but if I'm trying to stay close to home, I'll play somewhere like Bobby Jones. It's a decent course if you're just looking to have a good time or get an easy round in. Several of the holes are in a pretty large open area next to one another, so we became confused a few times. Other than that, I have no complaints. One of the holes on the back nine (I forget which one) requires you to hit blindly down onto the green. Man, we lost some balls on that one. With it being in such a populated area, watch for crowds.
Callahan Golf Links
Played On 10/6/2013One of my go-to courses
Have played this course several times and it's always a great round. The course has a very country feel to it - red barn, pastures, etc. Staff are very friendly and I think the value is great here.
Echelon Golf Club
Played On 9/14/2013One of my favorites yet
Loved everything about this course. Greens were in excellent shape and the course was challenging. As someone new to the game, I probably bit off more than I could chew, but it was worth it. Great scenery, rolling terrain, personable staff. Will be back.
Cherokee Run Golf Club
Played On 08/10/2013Challenging course near Conyers
As new as I am to the game of golf, this course tore me up. The greens were in excellent condition but were a little bit fast. Definitely some challenging holes and several obstacles to deal with. It was a bit crowded when we were there and there was a skills challenge going on. Loved playing here, though, and plan to go back!
Ashton Hills Golf Club
Played On 7/14/2013Nice course east of Atlanta
Have played this course twice now and had a good experience both times. Greens seemed much faster the second time around. I will say that the staff could be a bit friendlier. Definitely one of the better courses in the area, aside from Cherokee Run.
The Golf Club At Bradshaw Farm - Red Nine
Played On 6/15/2013Wish the greens were better
I had high hopes for this course. I started keeping up with them on Facebook and noticed that all of their photos in their galleries were pretty intriguing. We started playing and were surprised to see that all the greens were as brown as a paper bag. Staff at the pro shop didn't mention this to us and didn't offer any sort of a discount. Not as aesthetically pleasing as I would have liked, but the course was still fun. Wish we would have gotten a heads up about the greens, though.
Jennings Mill Country Club
Played On 5/17/2013Great course near Athens
Was fortunate enough to get off of work one day to play this course with a buddy of mine. I thought the course was kept in great shape and the greens were true. Definitely a few challenging holes for a fairly new golfer like myself, but the scenery was great and there was hardly anyone on the course when we were there.05/17/2013
Legacy Golf Links
Played On 4/21/2013Fun little par 3
Like Fox Creek, Legacy has a similar course layout, with nice greens and quick play. I believe I used my driver once. They give you the option of playing the bigger cups, too, if you're not wanting to take yourself too seriously. In and out in less than three hours.
City Club Marietta
Played On 4/18/2013Solid course in Marietta
Pretty good course, but for some reason I just wasn't feeling it (my game, not the course). Could be because I was playing with a few guys I didn't know too well and wasn't as comfortable. Got a little windy when we were there. No complaints, though. Greens were in pretty good shape.
Fox Creek Golf Club
Played On 4/07/2013Fun little executive course
It's a great course if you're looking to get in a quick round. Didn't have to pull out my driver much. Greens are in good shape and the driving range is very good. Fun place to play.
Chastain Park Golf Course
Played On 6/16/2012Ok course but very crowded
This was the first course I'd ever played. Extremely crowded on a summer day. Took us a good 5 hours, and we resorted to playing best ball on the back nine because the idiots behind us kept hitting into us. Lots of people on the course. Probably would have had a better time had we gone during the week when there weren't as many people. Greens were average. Nothing to write home about but certainly not a bad course either.
Fairways of Canton Golf Club
Played On 5/19/2012Another favorite
A friend of mine said they really brought this course back to life. I loved it. It's in a beautiful area with some great views of the foothills. Several of the holes were challenging. There is an awesome par 3 that requires you to hit way, way down onto the green. Nice facilities and excellent greens.
