Marion Country Club
Played On 08/05/2015A true gem in a poor town
I've wanted to play here for quite a while but finally got around to playing on a Hot Deal. $20+ GN.com fee.
I used the driving range it was kinda small but several flags to different yardage. Eh, range balls. But its only to warm up.
Course was in tip top shape. Green were unbelievable, so perfect. No divots no ball marks rolled perfect and looked like they belonged on the PGA Tour. Speed was highly consistent.
Fairways were great, felt like carpet and looked great.
The clubhouse is old and is in good shape. At the turn I stopped in the restaurant thinking they would have simple stuff for all members & or players. I was wrong it was a sit down restaurant . No hotdog, or sandwiches. All snacks are in the pro shop and it was only candy bars and simple drinks.
Overall I highly suggest everyone get here to play at least one round. You can't go wrong.

quick choice to play. Greens were in good shape. Tee boxes could have been mowed. The fairways were ok but kinda long. Overall not to bad.
I'll go back again

Golf in good shape towards this late in the year. Staff was great even came out and told me a Hornets nest on the back of #5 was disturbed. It did rain and the course seemed like it didn't drain all to well.
Greens were punched a while ago and rolled very well. There were some pitch marks but nothing bad at all.
For the price I would play here everyday.

Played 18 in 3.5 hours. The course was in great shape, no burned out areas and they had really good sand in the bunkers.
The greens rolled good and were kinda fast, nothing overwhelming. It's a Tim Liddy design so it's a baby Pete Dye course. Looks like one also. The tees and fairways were all cut to the correct height as one should expect on a course. The tee boxes were nice and soft, and the rough was lush.
I would highly recommend this course for the 30-50 dollar range. Less than that is a steal.
Cumberland Trail Golf Club
Played On 07/25/2014Great price for a good course
Course was in good shape but the grounds crew are over watering around the greens. This makes shot making into the green difficult. Greens were good and tee boxes were fine. Fairways were in good shape over over watered.
Couple bunkers are under construction the others were acceptable.

Sadly this course will be closing at the end of the year.
This is the best conditioned course on golf now in the Columbus area. The rough is thick the greens are fast and true and the fairways look untouched. If you can get here before it turns into someone's backyard.

I guess the owners sold it to new owners and changed the name, the name change does't worry me. What worries me is the ponding of water at noon on Saturday in the fairways (i.e overwatering the fairways) and the rock hard rough areas around the greens. Some of the bunkers were way to wet and compacted the sand. Some bunkers were showing signs of needing to be re-sanded.
I'm worried the "new" owners could destroy this course.
FYI the front nine greens have been aerated so they are a little rough.
