TPC San Antonio - Oaks Course
Played On 02/17/2015TPC San Antonio - AT&T Oaks Course
Pro: Since this course hosts the Valero Open Tournament this course was in really great conditions. Bunkers were to be a challenge. The course was green all around. This is a must play course if you are around the San Antonio area. TPC courses are usually very good courses like this one. Rough was thick all the way around.
Con: The greens were rolling smoothly but tended to be slow. The walk from the parking lot is a big uphill walk. Overall I really like the course a lot.
TPC San Antonio - Canyons Course
Played On 02/16/2015TPC San Antonio - AT&T Canyons Course
Pro: This course hosts a tournament for the Senior Tour. The course was a nice Pete Dye design. The tough finishing hole number 18 had a lot of bunkers that made the hole challenging. I played there in a college tournament with some bad weather conditions that made the course tough. Bunkers were in excellent shape.
Cons: The greens were rolling smoothly but there were some Poe Anna grass growing on the Bermuda greens. They looked like weeds but overall the course was in nice shape.
Hurricane Creek Country Club
Played On 01/06/2015Hurricane Creek Country Club
Pro: The greens were in great shape. Bunkers were well taken care of. It is sort of a challenge especially for one hole with a weird tee shot. Overall I like the course and its facilities.
Con: Since the greens were the only thing green the fairway were a bit brownish and dormit. Also the short game facility green does not look like a real green but they are improving that particular facility in the future which is good news. Also with a lot of members on the course on the weekend it may be hard to book a tee time.
The Bridges Golf Club
Played On 12/16/2014The Bridges Golf Course
Pro: This is a nice design by the legendary Freddy Couples. I like the conditions of the course itself. The greens were in terrific shape and were running very fast. It is a challenge from the longer set of tees.
Con: Even though the course was in nice shape, some of the bunkers did not have very much sand as others and putting a tree out in the middle of the fairway on one hole. Also there is construction of houses going on during my round.
Tascosa Golf Club - Tascosa Course
Played On 11/28/2014Tascosa Country Club
Pro: The greens were rolling fast even on a nice day. Bunkers were everywhere on the course. Tee boxes were also in good shape throughout the course.
Con: The grass on the fairways seemed dead or dormant on the course. The annoying thing was the carts had to stay on the cart path at all times because of the fairway conditions. I wished they would let you take the carts out on the fairway to look for your ball.
Tascosa Golf Club - La Paloma Course
Played On 11/26/2014La Paloma Golf Club
Pro: The course setup was decent at best but the greens were rolling true and well. Sometimes you have to play for elevation changes. The clubhouse is also really nice. The fairways had some good green grass.
Con: Bunkers on every hole of the golf course were muddy. Some of the grass might have look like dead grass even with the other grass on the course.
The Tribute Golf Club - Old Course
Played On 10/27/2014The Tribute Golf Club
Pro: This course seems like fun when you are playing the holes that you would recongize from the British Open. The course was in decent shape. I like the course.
Con: The greens were bumpy and slow even though it was bent grass. Some of the bunkers were muddy and wet a little here and there.
Wichita Falls Country Club
Played On 10/19/2014Witchia Falls Country Club
Pro: The course was in good shape espically with some of the grass being lush. It was a little dormit in some areas. The greens were rolling well and smooth.
Con: A few of the holes were located next to a drainage ditch and it made the course look a bit strange. You do have to hit tee shots over this same drainage ditch while on the course. Good thing the wind was not blowing.
The Territory
Played On 10/12/2014Territory Golf Club
Pro: This had some really nice bent grass greens. The course is a challenge and it was when it was windy. The greens were the smoothest bent grass greens I have played on. Course layout was nice.
Con: Even though the course did not get much rain due to the drought the course managed to survive well. However, it was hard to see the border line between the fairway and rough was hard to see because it was the exact same grass.
Golf Club of Estrella
Played On 09/28/2014Golf Club of Estrella
Pro: Since this is in Arizona, this course gets year round play. I like the fact how course was set up with wide fairways even though it was in a desert climate. Bunkers were in great shape and the course overall was decent at best.
Con: The greens were okay but they rolled smooth. I would not recommend playing this course when it is above 100 degrees. Also, if you go off the grassland and into the desert watch out for Cati which your golf ball might end up next to.
Stonebridge Ranch Country Club - Dye Course
Played On 07/17/2014Stonebridge Ranch Country Club Dye Course
Pro: A great course layout in the area. Greens were lighting quick and some holes are challenging even from the back tees. A neat Pete Dye design course.
Con: There are lots of water on the holes so it can be very easy to lose your ball. Although it gets a lot of play the pace of play I was in was slow.
The Sports Club at Four Seasons Resort - Cottonwood Valley
Played On 07/16/2014TPC Four Seasons Cottonwood Valley
Pro: Played a practice round for a tournament. Greens and bunkers were in nice shape. Fairways were in nice condition with lots of green grass. It is a challenge.
Con: Course is a little right in some places to hit a drive. Too much water that comes into play as well.
Greywalls Course at Marquette Golf Club
Played On 06/28/2014Greywalls Course at Marquette Golf Club
Pro: Even though it is in the far northern parts of Michigan in the Upper Pennsulia the course did really well. The layout never was flat and it had lots of elevation change. The greens and fairways were good as well. The course stood out well.
Con: I would not recommend to walk this course because of the big elevation changes. Always take a cart. It can be pricy to play there
TimberStone Golf Course at Pine Mountain
Played On 06/27/2014Timberstone Golf Course at Iron Mountain
Pro: Fairways were lush and it is a very hilly and almost mountains course. It is an interesting location that is next to a ski slope facility. Some of the holes even looked like they were part of the slopes. Fun to play even though it is tight.
Con: I would not recommend to walk this course because of the terrain. They were lots of mosquitoes around. One hole I even had a problem with getting a deer out of the tee box area. Careful about the wildlife in the area.
Irish Course at Whistling Straits
Played On 06/25/2014Irish Course at Whistling Straits
Pro: I like the way the course is set up as a links style course. There are lots of bunkers on the course I was playing on as well as the Straits course. The greens were rolling fast even though it was raining there a little.
Con: With the course being next to Lake Michigan it is prone to having foggy weather. This happened toward the late part of the round. It made it more difficult than it looked when the fog rolled in. I did not like playing in the fog at all. Watch for heavy winds or it can get tougher.
Irish Course at Whistling Straits
Played On 06/25/2014Irish Course at Whistling Straits
Pro: The course was an excellent condition even after they had some rain. Greens were rolling fast and it is unbelievable how many bunkers are out on each of the two courses. I like the course very much.
Con: The course being located next to Lake Michigan can sometimes like I experience have foggy weather. For me it is not fun to play in the fog. I had to hit some tee shots in the fog and you do no know where it is going. They say it does not happen very often but that is the only downside I saw.
