Indian Palms Golf & Country Club - Indian/Mountain
Played On 10/30/2023Not a good choice
The course was bone-dry, greens were hard and the ball ran forever. Many of the greens appeared to have a case of terminal acne. The course is surrounded by homes, some very close to fairways to the point of the homes' backyards are effectively the rough. The layout of the Indian nine is at best weird and for a first-time player, hard to follow. Maintenance of the course overall was neglected. In the fairways, it wasn't lift, clean and place, it was lift and try to find a spot of grass to put the ball back down on. The range was closed and there was no place to warm up. There are much better places to play. Refunds are in order.
Kissimmee Bay Country Club
Played On 08/10/2023Good course, great price
There were few players out because it was hot and sticky. Played most of the round by myself. The layout is challenging, greens were very good, fairways were fine, rough was a little long with some very soggy spots, traps were ok, tees need some work, carts (gasoline) worked well. Driving range was unusual. Hit the balls into a big pond. Even though they're floaters, they were little if any different from regular range balls. Staff was very friendly and a couple of nice cold beers at the clubhouse with the regulars afterwards were a nice finish to a good day.
West at Orangebrook Country Club
Played On 07/30/2023Not bad for a Sunday
Prior reviews criticized the staff as unfriendly and indifferent. My wife and I found them hospitable, personable and helpful. The course needs attention: greens are inconsistent, some ok, some not. Rough needs mowing and edging. Cart paths are a little rough in places. Some traps had rakes, most did not. Fairways were good, tees ok, carts were fine. The layout is good for first-timers playing the course. It was also good that we were paired with two young men that play here often. It made for an enjoyable Sunday round. And the price was right!
Desert Falls Country Club
Played On 11/11/2020Don't try to play from the rough
The rough is too long. Ok, I know it's just past over-seed season but we spent way too much time on several holes looking for balls that weren't that far off the fairway, maybe two to five yards off. The 16th hole, forced carry to the green over a pond., was virtually unplayable from any place but the fairway. Great if you're hosting the U.S. Open, not so great for every day players. Ditto 18. Otherwise, greens are a bit slow but we've played worse. Starting at 1:00 p.m. on Veteran's Day was not a problem: we (wife and I) finished in three and a half hours in full daylight. It was NOT cart path only.
Mt. Woodson Golf Club
Played On 08/29/2019Not your average golf course!
We were warned the course was "tight" and it is, but there's more to it than that. There are many hills, some very dramatic elevation changes especially on the back nine (e.g. hole seventeen), a couple of long, intimidating par threes (holes three and nine), a few blind shots, and at least one hole where a shot even just over the green results in a lost ball. We caught a slow foursome on the third hole but they considerately allowed us through on five, clear sailing afterwards, finished in four hours. Greens were very receptive, putts rolled nicely, fairways were good or excellent but the sand in many bunkers was thin and or hard. Don't let the sub-6,000-yard length fool you. This is not an executive course. Play the blues: you will be challenged. The course is picturesque. The Mt. Woodson bridge between two green and three tee is unique -- WOW! -- it's an adventure, my wife videoed the cart ride over. All first-time groups receive an introductory "cheat-sheet" that helps a little. Water jugs were available every third or fourth hole. Overall, not your typical round of golf: challenging, unique, fun and well worth the price.
Faldo at Wildfire Golf Club at Desert Ridge Resort
Played On 08/06/2019Positively impressed
Course was in very good condition although a couple of drives actually backed up two or three feet after they hit a soggy part of the fairway. Greens and fairways were great but sand in some of the bunkers was a bit thin and tees could have been mowed just a little lower. Carts and GPS were excellent, staff is professional and helpful. Overall, very enjoyable and easy to recommend.
Rancho Manana Golf Club
Played On 09/03/2016A little disappointed
The course is ok -- it's only the second time I played it -- but the range was closed, the greens seemed to either need cutting, rolling or both, and the water hazards/ponds on the back nine were severely low, many feet low. The layout is ok but just ok. The course felt cramped: not enough room, too much squeezed together. For example, it's difficult to play the 18th from the blue tees without hitting the drive into the10th fairway.
