The Courses at Watters Creek - Player's Course
Played On 08/15/2022Disappointing - not up to standards
At first sight this par 30 9-hole looks like the perfect place to work on irons and get beginners some confidence. I brought my dad who is just getting back into the game. Having him wait an average of 7 minutes a hole on golfers not aware of their pace was a terrible introduction. If my dad can stay in play and keep pace, anyone can! The course doesn't manage the first tee so getting around for another 9 seemed unbearable. It's surprising that a course so well known for conditions would allow the par 30 to be so poorly groomed. I was disappointed.
Snow Mountain at Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort
Played On 07/20/2022Fun Punishing Rewarding Beautiful
The course is in great shape. You have to stay in play. Even then, the rough will punish and the Pete Dye lies are all over the place. That being said, the challenges are fun and the scenery is beautiful. I am grateful to have played and will definitely return.
Ridgeview Ranch Golf Club
Played On 05/13/2022Course rot and terrible pace
It’s one of the worst $60 courses in the metroplex. It’s not worth $20. Terrible pace and no management. That’s the good part. The greens and fairways are rotted out mess. Unless I hear different, I won’t be back.
The workers are nice tho.
Lakes at Firewheel Golf Park
Played On 11/15/2016Course in great shape and very pretty holes
I forgot how pretty some of the holes look out on the Lakes course. All greens and fairways are in really good shape and rolling true. With some forced carries, tight lanes and small greens there are some real challenges from the blue tees. Great value. Good job Garland.
Avery Ranch Golf Club
Played On 09/25/2016Perfect Greens, Fun Course
The course is beautiful. The neighborhood does not interfere. All cuts are done well and the greens are immaculate. Even the deer roaming around the front 9 patiently wait to snack on berry bushes as you pass. Other the the overtly, rude starter which made for an odd start to the round, we were treated to a special noon rate with a swift pace of play. The back 9 plays faster. The 19th hole has very reasonable pricing on food and drinks. I will be back.
The Club at Los Rios
Played On 07/12/2016Pleasant Surprise
The course is coming along nicely - greens, fairways and first cut were all in really good shape. For the money it was well worth the trip to the old club. We also played in 2h 20m ... now that's a nice pace!
Buffalo Creek Golf Club
Played On 05/29/2016What is happening to Rockwall golf?
I don't know what is going on in Rockwall. Each year of my 15 years in the area the golfing experience has declined. RGAC is overpriced. Buffalo Creek is slow and messy. Buff used to be a fantastic track but now lacks starters, ambassadors and even the snack cart isn't out on a Sunday over the holiday weekend. Even the course is starting to suffer as players are not maintaining divots anymore than they are taking 3-4 shots off the tee and from sand traps that are a mess. It's really sad ... at least they are pricing it like it plays.
Old at Firewheel Golf Park
Played On 03/29/2016Classic golf experience
You can see the old beauty of this classic track. It's always a pleasure with several well designed holes and some good challenges. The staff is always friendly. The worst part is the level of etiquette. One would think a late morning round on a Tuesday should be an quick endeavor. Just like other courses in the area, the amateur golfer has no regard for pace of play and the course had no one checking the pace. It's growing tiresome to go play public links anymore. Someone please post USGA stroke limits for non-handicap players!
Audubon Park Golf Course
Played On 02/28/2016A real letdown
First things first - this is an executive course - par 62. People visiting the park are allowed to walk anywhere - even across the fairway when you're in mid-swing. The greens were like the rough. Horrible conditions. Players taking 8-9 shots out of the bunkers. The staff doesn't even try to be friendly. Carts have to be in by 5:30. No exceptions. Traffic around the park is abysmal.
This was hands down the worst round of the money in a long time. I'd put it in my top 2 worst golf experiences easy. The birds were nice though.
Battle Lake Golf Course
Played On 11/05/2015Could be a gem
The staff is really great. They are holding on to a pretty beat up course. I actually like the club house, training facilities and tournament area off 18. You can tell this place was built for golfers of all ages and in a social manner. The course itself has a really cool layout but it is absolutely a mess. There's very little rough and no sense of fairways. The greens need to be long and thick since they are not cared for. Almost every lie is in a dirt patch (even in the fairway) and there are a lot of unplayable areas. Sad because it's in a beautiful spot that's not too difficult to get to and has a great atmosphere.
Bridges - The Masters at Firewheel Golf of Garland
Played On 05/01/2015Great track - tough but precise.
Champions to Masters makes for a great 18. The course is so well marked and the GPS makes it even more accurate when sizing up a shot. And you will need it to stay in play!
Stellar practice range. Good food.
The Courses at Watters Creek - Traditions Course
Played On 04/15/2015Half the course under water!
We had floods earlier in the week but they still let us walk the first 10 holes. Not bad considering we get a credit with GolfNow due to the issues at the course.
But you can tell the course is in great shape and will clean up quick. I will definitely be back.
Rockwall Golf and Athletic Club
Played On 04/02/2015An average day at the old Shores
There's an obvious attempt at renovating Rockwall Golf & Athletic Club which should turn it back into a premier spot some day. At the moment, the course still plays very rough and there's little attention towards players on the course or in the clubhouse. For the money, a local golfer can get a better rate and a better course at a handful of places. I do wish this club the best and hope it returns to its former glory.
Mesquite Golf Course
Played On 12/15/2014It was a pleasure ...
I've been wanting to play this course for a while now. And I'm glad I did even on a windy day. I will visit again soon. You can tell that the challenges will go up once that foliage grows back in after winter. It's a nice little track and rewards the shot maker. The renovation is nice too.
Waterview Golf Club
Played On 07/03/2014Golf Etiquette Ignored ... No Ambassador
As a twosome one would expect to wait from time to time during the course of 18 holes. However, when the pro tells you there's no one in front or behind my expectations of a fast pace increase. I did expect to catch folks and maybe play through once or twice. However, it was clear that the slower groupings were simply oblivious after witnessing a player take 7 shots out of a bunker at the green while we waited in the fairway for 10 minutes. It is the first time I have ever skipped a hole. Very frustrating ...
This etiquette issue was also observed by player damage on the greens, lack of divot replacement, and messy sand traps.
It's a shame because one can tell that the course is fairly well kept overall.
Hi, Thank you for reviewing the course. Let us first start by apologizing for the poor experience you had during your visit. Your feedback about the course is important to us. We are working to get everything up to par. We have projects ongoing to recover the fairways and greens. The current condition is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. We are going to escalate your feedback to our team so we can make improvements before your next game, and we will continue to work towards an excellent experience by using your comment for guidance. Thank you for playing Ridgeview Ranch Golf Club. We hope to see you again soon.
