Disappointed in Scottsdale

Group of 4 buddies on our annual golf weekend came to Scottsdale to play the famed TPC Scottsdale. It was the 3rd and final round of the weekend. We hoped to save the best for last. Boy, were we disappointed. Fairways were punched, soaking wet/mushy and thin everywhere. Greens were perfect, running at 10-11 and rolled true. However, it's a great layout. We played 2 courses prior and both were in fantastic shape, plush fairways, great greens. So we know it wasn't weather conditions that were the problem. Staff asked how we enjoyed our round (as every course does) but they were dismissive, uninterested and flat out angry when we answered their question. Overall a poor experience. Just and FYI. One golfer is a 2.3 HC, and another is 4.5.

Course was in excellent condition.

Course was in FANTASTIC condition. You wouldn't know it was winter in South Texas. One of the best tracks around.

Greens recently sanded

Greens were unplayable due to overnight sanding. Golf ball turned into a snowball as it moved over the green. Didn't take the putter out of the bag, the rest of the front 9. Frustrated, I quit on 10 and went home.

Realizing it's absolutely part of good course management, a little heads up from the staff would have been appreciated but nothing. Or notification on Golf Now booking engine.

Normally I would have asked for a rain check but I'm here on vacation so coming back isn't and option.

Lesson learned, call ahead.

Course has potential...needs time and water

Recently reopened, this course is not ready to be considered as a mid/top tier course in SA. While it appears they have spent lots of money, completely re-sodding the entire course with zyosia, if they don't water, it will soon die off and revert back to it's condition prior to it's closing. Entire course was "crunchy", like it hadn't been watered in weeks. Seems to me that if they can spend that kind of money, they can afford to water the course and give the re-sodding a chance. Waiting for mother nature in So Tx, is a mistake in my view.

They are trying to charge fees that well maintained, established courses in the area are charging. And right now, it's not worth it.

On a positive note, the greens were OK, definitely a different feel putting on zyosia, it's very "sticky", but we liked it.

Our group will wait to replay, until next spring.

Great course, challenging and beautiful scenery

I rated the overall experience as GOOD, only because they let TOO many 5-somes play. We had 2 - 5somes directly ahead of us and they were SLOW. It took 2.5 hours to play the front nine, then when we finally made the turn, we had to wait again. We got to 12 after additional 1 hour and then the rains hit and we were pulled off the course for a 1 hour delay. At that point I had been there for 4 hours already and didn't want to continue. On the way in we noticed at several more 5-somes.

Nice course...great potential

27 holes of fun. Valley (open), Lakes (water on 7 of 9) and Ridge (our favorite). Ridge had lots of blind shots, narrow landing areas, lots of elevation changes. Target golf at it's best. On #6 we had to drive up inside 80 yards just to see the top of the flagstick down below. Definite risk reward opportunities throughout the 9 holes.

We hadn't played here for well over 15 years and we were astonished at the changes. New clubhouse, restaurant, bar and proshop.

Course itself was typical for winter in South Texas. Fairways a little thin, bunkers need work (not much sand depth), greens a little rough, but puttable. Greens on the Ridge 9 were in much better shape.

It's obvious the new ownership group has already invested a LOT of money in the facilities. No reason to believe they won't continue to pump money into the golf course to protect their entire investment to date.

Overall, we see potential for a GREAT course and golf experience. We highly recommend the Ridge 9 for a golf experience not usually found in the South Texas area.

We WILL play here again... REAL SOON and often.
