Tourney in progress

I booked the River Course, but was diverted by the starter to the Highlands Course because of a tournement in progress on the river course. So, the pace of play was slow as all casual golfers like me were playing Highlands. I was behind 2 slow moving groups. The Highlands Course was rough, from apparent heavy use.

Not bad for February

Off-season maintenance was underway with many of the normal tee boxes being covered. Only 1 fairway under repair (#9). Greens were in very good shape. Course was a little soggy but to be expected with recent rains and cold weather.

Booming river

I'm a novice golfer and this was my first time playing River Islands. Course was very challenging. I played the back 9 much better than the front. The river was booming from all the rain so the water holes were a bit intimidating! The GPS on the carts was both cool and a little annoying. The golfnow afternoon (2:06pm) tee time was a steal for this course.

bargain

We booked a 1:30 tee time at a great rate. Nice offer for a first time player at the course. The course was in good shape for December. I've never played in a course that is so woven into a housing community. Wasn't really a problem except when I sliced a drive onto someone's roof (the homeowners were outside and were understanding). We had a great time and will be back.

Great time

My 14 yr old nephew and I had one of our most pleasurable golf experiences at Penn National. We played the Iron Forge course. The greens were pristine. The course was challenging but playable for a couple of high handicappers. The staff was outstanding. I left a wedge in the practice area and didn't realize it until the 2nd or 3rd hole. I mentioned to one of the staff who stopped to check on us. I said I would check on it when we made the turn. He drove back to the clubhouse and got it for me. Outstanding. Hope to get back there.
