Country Club of Newberry
Played On 02/19/2023Love to play!!
This course screams historic old southern country club. Old clubhouse in need of some renovation. Layout is splendid. Greens are pretty good for this time of year. Tee boxes are horrible. It was wet but everything in the southeast is wet right now. Pace of play was decent. Got jumped in front of at the turn by 2 younger guys. Probably teens. They had no respect for anyone around. If these are members of a private club it should embarrassing to not know anything about the game. I am all for enjoying myself but not at the expense of others. I will play again in better conditions. I would recommend anyone that simply loves to play or likes historic tracks to give it a whirl.

Took a 2 hour drive south to get away from cold and rainy conditions. Layout was good. Course was ok conditions wise
Really wet from all the rain in the area the last few weeks which is nobody's fault. Bunkers had some rocks.( Never good ) pro shop guy was okay but seemed a bit irritated we had booked through golfnow. Charged one guy full price because he didn't say we booked through golf now even though the tee time was under my name on golf now and "had no way to refund " the money?
We were 45 minutes early
Ready to go and had to wait to tee of (late) as 2 groups arrived late but had tee times in front of us. All in all a good golf course with a fun layout around Lake Murray. Just didn't get a welcome vibe.
We will probably play again.

This is good golf course. But 45..00 on a Wednesday afternoon is pretty steep for it. This was after my golfpass discounts.
Greens were slow. It had rained a few days so the wetness around the greens is excusable.
Layout is a bit tricked up but mountain golf is good for that.
The scenery and the wild life are incredible. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Only exception to the staff would be whoever was giving the lessons by the 1st tee box, I assua teaching professional. Never lowered his voice or taught etiquette of when fellow players are on the tee addressing the ball. When we were on the tee, he kept right on speaking loudly. Seems like etiquette should always be in the lessons.

course is a favorite of my regular group. We come over from a neighboring state a few times a year. About an hour and half drive. Booked online, the only option we were given. Fees, taxes, and all 52.00...normally not an issue for quality conditions. However this place is in horrible condition. Rough is completely overgrown, bunkers haven't been touched in weeks, unplayable. Greens very hairy and then some bare spots. The restrooms are unusable out on the course even though the starter gives a speech about location of bathrooms as a suggestion to use them. Recently changed owners so?? Needs to be shut down and worked on for a couple weeks if it's to survive. Completely overpriced for current conditions.
I am a USGA member, 12 handicap, play lots of golf in hundreds of locations. Scored 88 on this day. Playing by proper USGA rules on this course in these conditions was extremely difficult and almost unfairly unplayable. Covid 19 aside, played a dozen places during the pandemic and all have kept the course conditions playable.

Course is not in bad conditions for this early in the spring. Greens were fantastic. The pace of play was horrible though. Large group in front of us who had no concern for the pace of play. No ranger on the course to move them along.
Our round took 5 hours and 10 minutes. And we had 2 single digit handicap golfers in the group.
We visit here regularly from Asheville NC.
River Falls Plantation

Challenging layout. Shot making and some wide open holes. Greens roll true. Fairways good for the time of year. Tee boxes need work badly. Pushing pace of play too hard keeps higher hdcp golfers away. Not everyone shoots in the 70s.
