Snail-like pace of play ruins a great golf course

Picked our balls up on the 14th and said "Enuf" - out there for over 4 hours thru 13 holes. Course Management is more than happy to accommodate too many golfers but not willing to manage the pace of play.

This is a very nice golf course with memorable holes - well designed, challenging, but very fair. Be prepared, however, for a long day if you tee off before 2 pm.

A Terrific Golf Experience is Waiting to Happen

Entertaining and challenging course to play. Above average conditions - ownership is obviously making some major improvements, but attention to some details (traps, rutted lies, course management) is needed. My biggest gripe here is that the pro shop allows (or is clueless) players to start on #10 when players are making the turn from nine. Case in point - my twosome played the front nine in one hour and 40 minutes. Back nine - two hours and 25 minutes. We waited at the turn for over 20 minutes.

Very playable layout - Greens Need TLC

With the exception of the greens, which may be in winter to spring transition, the course is in above average shape. Played behind a foursome that should have been shown the door by the back nine. (the beer caught up with them). No course oversight, so immature men take liberal advantage. Note to greenskeeper - they are trashing your course.
Nonetheless, a fun course to play.

Enjoy the views. You'll have plenty of time to admire nature.

A quality golf course. Unfortunately, extremely slow play and no course management. We quit after 12 holes of molasses pace and rode in on the cart path - only to see holes 13-18 unoccupied. Two foursomes completely clogged the course.

The course ranger was remarkably dense about the pace and was beyond rude if not completely confrontational when we pointed out the slow play.

Will not return.

We had a ranger when we were there this past week. We was ridding around pushing people and we got the round done in about 4 hours and 15 minutes. I think they may have fixed this issue or at least maybe there were better people working when I went than during your experience

Beware the hidden charges.

Classic Donald Ross design. A fair test of golf. Drove over an hour - find out the course charges a $4.00 user fee per non-resident of Palatka golfers. Surprise, surprise. The starter insisted on pairing my twosome with another twosome, and I have no problem with that except for the fact that a string of twosomes followed us. Oh - watch out, they allow fivesomes.

Would play the course again if it were within a twenty minute drive.

A Solid Old Faithful

Just simply an fun, fair, and surprisingly challenging "old" Myrtle Beach classic. Played this course for the first time in 1987 - in 2017, Beachwood remains a one of my Grand Strand favorites. Well designed holes, great greens, and a fair test for players of all levels.

Every Other Wednesday

Pro shop sent us on our way. Asked if a starter was working. "Yep" was the crisp answer. Went to first tee - no starter. Figured out play was being started on #10. When we found the starter he explained "Every other Wednesday we start play on the back nine." We started at noon - by the time we made the turn, our starter was AWOL - and the sharp tacks in the pro shop were sending new players to the first hole. Two and a half hours on that nine. Would have been longer, but we skipped the last hole.

I actually do like the golf course, but who needs a five hour round?

Nothing Fancy - A Good, Challenging Golf Course

Sneaky long. Some blind shots - but fair. Nice assortment of par 3's. A good woodlands course. Don't expect much in amenities, but the Elks do strive to keep the golf course playable. Well above average greens. Nice design in a pleasant setting.

Decent golf course but has some issues

Given a horrendous winter the golf course is in decent shape. I give PNGC a thumbs down because the pro shop was sending anyone with the green fees in hand to the first tee - we teed off 15 minutes after our tee time. Pace of play was pathetic - simply because groups were teeing off with absolutely no gaps in times. Twosomes were not paired into foursomes, and we even had a single two groups behind us. Quit after 13 holes because it looked like a 5 1/2 hour round. That is not fun.

If you love golf and airplanes, this is your course.

Always a fun course to play from any set of tees - and from the tips this layout is a tough challenge for any low handicapper. Spruce Creek is always in playable condition. If you are an aviation buff you may be lucky enough to catch the resident flyers performing formation flying in both modern and vintage (and powerful) aircraft.

St Jude is a golfer's golf course.

We've played St Jude a least 25 times over the past three years, and on each occasion I learn a bit more about these daunting 18 holes. The course shows its age in a few (a very few) spots, but that also reveals its timelessness and charm - a 1920's design that can still stare down the contemporary golfer. in 2013 - from any set of tees. Good shots are rewarded. Mis-hits are punished.

Beautiful setting, great pace of play - and if you are fortunate you might run into a member who will share a little inside information with you. And if you really want to prove your mettle as a golfer try walking this trail sometime.
