Bloomington Downs Golf Club
Played On 10/25/2017Good conditions today
Great conditions for cool day in the fall. Greens were very receptive to approach shots, and as a result I was able to shoot better than expected.
Remington Parkview Golf and Country Club - Upper
Played On 09/16/2017Slow play ruined it
Started at 12 pm noon, finished 17th hole at 5 pm, had to forego the last hole as it was taking way too long and risked overrunning my next appointment.
10-15 min minimum wait time on every single hole, and for the green to clear. Not a single marshall in sight to manage pace of play. Cart refreshment didn't show up until 11th hole.
The other worse part is being paired up with this one elderly in the group who makes endless small talks & wouldn't shut up the whole time - nothing to do with the golf course, of course.
Mill Run Golf Club - Championship Grist/Wheel Course
Played On 07/22/2017Good course; Green-to-tee decks too far from each other
Pretty good golf, plenty of challenges for even the seasoned golfer. However, I think they should've designed the course so that the between-holes distances weren't so disconnected.
Rolling Hills Golf Club - Classic
Played On 05/20/2017Slow play; wet
It's probably the single most boring layout of any course I've played, but yet I keep coming back as it's relatively close to where I live and it doesn't break my wallet. Considering this is an executive course of under 5000 yards, I expected to finish in around 3 hrs. But no. Bunch of beginners who didn't know about pace of play etiquette a few groups ahead held everyone up. The greens were in good condition. Despite the heavy rain we've had for the past few weeks, it still played relatively dry, except for the last hole, where part of the fairway was filled up completely in water. To the management's credit, we were given a $10 discount to walk only which I felt was fair.
Eagles Nest Golf Club
Played On 11/02/2016Wowed
Wow, just wow. Finest golf course Ontario, hands down. Tremendous layout, somewhat reminiscent of the great links of great britain. What I love most however, is the staff members, whom are eager to ensure you have a good time. Course is rather difficult though. I played from the tips and could only manage +53 over par here. Felt quite laid back the whole time; started round at around noon, and finished at around 6, pm in time for dinner. What a most wonderful way to spend the whole afternoon on the course.
Bloomington Downs Golf Club
Played On 09/03/2016Ultra-wide golf course
Played this on a sunny day.
Bit of delay from our twilight tee time. Conditions were OK, but I love the forgiving layout. You simply can't miss!
I'm an intermediate player myself, usually shooting in the 120's, but due to the forgivingly wide landing areas and general lack of hazards and defenses around greens, I was able to shoot a smooth 107.
Highly recommend this course for beginners.
4 Seasons Country Club
Played On 11/15/2015Relatively challenging layout; good conditions for late in the season
Considering we played in mid-November, the course condition was fairly good, although some aeration on the fairways, slowness and unevenness of the green was expected but still acceptable.
We walked on the course with practically no one behind or ahead of us for at least 3 holes, except for the occasional 5-somes / 6-somes that we noticed out playing - considering we're playing this late in the season. Regardless, the atmosphere was very casual and did not impact our two-some's pace whatsoever.
The course is not long by any measure, but nonetheless relatively challenging due to the - at times - very narrow landing areas and/or forced carries, and large elevation changes. All of which made for an interesting round.
I particularly liked the 5th hole 373 par 4 dogleg-left which required a long and extra-precise tee-shot between tree-lined fairway over a ravine in order to have a chance to get home in two (no shortcut unless you can carry 220 over very tall pine trees) . Second shot is a mid-long iron to a fairly elevated, severely sloped back-to-front green.
I'll be playing this again.
Rolling Hills Golf Club - Classic
Played On 11/04/2015Disorganized starter(s) & bad players etiquettes; Greens poorly maintained
One of the worse courses to play on, comparible to Annandale due to:
- Starters who don't organize players to start appropriately, resulting in huge backlogs at most holes.
- Players have poor etiquette here, such that their pace of play is unacceptable, which is not checked upon by marshalls.
- Greens are consistently uneven due to bumpiness.
- Bunkers are not drained and are essentially water hazards.
I will be playing here again in at least a few years until all of the above are addressed.
Remington Parkview Golf and Country Club - Valley
Played On 10/17/2015Cold round, conditions were still good
Was only 4*c in the afternoon and windy with some flurries, but still a fairly enjoyable round with good conditions in spite of the weather.
Pace of play was not good, with some 4-some holding up everyone else.
Annandale Golf and Country Club
Played On 09/30/2015Very challenging greens, rude manager
Greens were challenging as it's very, very hard and uneven to putt on. Only spinny wedge shots will hold on approach shots. Greens were generally small as well, with a few fairly steep ones, while most of them were Pinehurst #2 style - where the fringes are sloped off the green.
Tee boxes are not in good condition. e.g. the grass are not mowed properly and ground uneven.
Pace of play was fairly backlogged going into back-9. Marshalls were probably not doing their job, and I didn't see one the whole round.
The manager (who I assume) was kind of an obnoxious person, who talks down customers. Have that expectation in your mind when you arrive there.
If you're able to overlook and don't mind the above, this is an otherwise good golf course for the value to play on.
