Course reviews are misleading

This course is totally fine. It is a 2 1/2-3 star course. Few terrible holes but it is ok. However, should not be confused with actual 4-5 star courses. This is a beginner course or beer league course. Which is fine, but should not be 4 stars. This course should be measured against Stony Ford and Minerals. Not Berkshire, Patriot Hills or Mansion Ridge. No comparison. Hope this helps so one who has no idea what this course is like.

The best value by far

I love to play different courses. I would get bored playing one course at a country club over and over again. Berkshire is always a must play 2-3 times a year. It is fantastic shape. The views are amazing and it is a great layout (230yrd par 3 #2 is not ideal but had to fit it in the landscape). Today, was no exception. Rain soaked from day before, the course dried up and only had some areas of watch left. Cudos to the grounds crew! Greens rolled quick and pure. And all for $80!!! That makes this course the best rated around. Bally is $150 and the greens are pot marked. No thanks. Just don’t tell too many people!

Big improvement

This is not a course that is going to get a pro event. It is a good practice course for fun when you have friends that are not into golf. Course is a good time for a leisurely round. They have made major improvements by clearing some trees and brush. The greens are slow but in great condition. They have a lot of slope to them so better slower than fast for this course. Nice day.

Nice round

Course is not a top tier track. But, it is pretty solid course. It is a target golf course with lots of blind shots. Not very long, but requires accuracy since it is tree lined and no bail outs if you are not straight. Conditions were better than I expected and the pace was excellent. Not a wait on a hole all day. Greens where firm but slower than expected considering how firm they were. I will be back.

Nice little course

For $48 on a Sunday morning, you cannot go wrong. This is not a top tier course by any means. But, that doesn’t mean it is not fun and interesting. The course has short par 4’s and 5’s which makes it easier IF you find the fairway. The par 3’s are solid with a few measuring over 200yrds and no 100wedge throwaway holes. The fairways are not in great condition but you can roll If needed. They are narrow and many holes are not driver required. Dog-legs abound so hit the distance and you have short shot into large greens that are soft and slow. They have some nice undulations and coupled with there slower speeds, makes going after putts less stressful. First time playing and I will be back again. I played from the back of the tees since they were playing a teen tournament. Played with two great guys as well. Looking forward to next round.

Another great day

I love this course. It is a challenge yet nothing is unfair. Make solid contact and keep it in play, then you can score. Get out of position and the course will make you pay. Greens roll true and fast. Course in excellent condition. Will be back.

Great short course

This is not a PGA tour track but perfect challenge for non-touring pros. Fairways are open but can be narrow with the many strategically placed old growth trees. Greens are is great shape and run true. Course is somewhat short, but that does not mean easy. Being every club because you will need them all. Wonderful experience. Can’t wait to go back.

Same story, slow. But it is on the golfers

I drive up to 2 hrs away to play courses, and this place is less than 15min from me and I rarely play here. It’s bc it is always slow. Look, this is a great golf course! Great array of holes and they make you earn a par. Forced carries and a finishing hole that is fantastic. But, this is not a beginners course. The green tees (blues) are a 140 slope. I am an 6 hdcp and play from the green tees. However, so does every player who ponies up $100+ to play here and it kills this great course. The rangers were pushing a group that was 3 groups in front of us, but their hands are tied. The guys were slow and not very good. Add in difficulty of the course and it is a disaster. 4:45min round is not horrendous on a Sunday. But for $110 8:45am tee, and one of our playing partners calling the pro shop on 4th tee bc it took over an hour to play 3 holes, that is not value. The course is still pretty wet.

Get out on a weekday. Want to see how good your game is? This is a good test, just not on weekends.

Impressive!

The weather has been terrible recently with extreme amounts of rain and showed up at 7am for an 8am tee time thinking this course would be a swamp. Couldn’t be further from the truth. No 90 degree rule or cart path only, just go play. Hat tip to the grounds crew because the course was in great shape.

Grass range and a beautiful putting green that impressed my country club buddies who were dragged to a “public” course. By the end of the round they wanted to know when we were coming back. The layout is wonderful and each hole is pretty unique. No throwaway holes that you usually see at public courses. Now the pictures of the course look to be of the West course which is private and a links style. The public course is the East course, but it is “public” in name only as it is taken care of like a private club course. Fairways are generous and cut like fairways should, and the rough is something to be avoided. Greens could be better taken care of by players as soft conditions make for pot marked greens. But that is on the players who don’t know how to take care of something great when they play on it. Simply amazing day of golf.

The staff could not have been more helpful and courteous. A+ to all of them. Great clubhouse after the round to celebrate a win or drown the sorrows. Can’t wait to get back!

A pleasure!

Great course. Drove 1:45 to play this for first time and was not disappointed! Conditions were ideal and lush. Tees fairways and greens were in excellent condition. (People still need lesson on fixing ball marks) smooth rolls and tricky greens. Well worth the ride and will do it again soon!

Great day!

The course is in great shape considering the midsummer heat. The greens are in amazing condition and roll fast and true. Not a long course, but does require different shots to manage your way around. Fun layout and reasonable price. They have a great restaurant and raw bar too! I will be back very soon!

Loved this course!

Played here today when the temp was 100+ and still loved every minute. First time here and got two buddies to leave their private club at the beach to come up and play here. We were all very impressed! The conditions rival that of a private course. Greens are small but roll wonderful. Amazing condition. Fairways are cut short and provide the right benefit for hitting a fairway. I cannot say enough great things about this course. The layout is challenging but scoring very possible with accurate play. What more can you ask for from a golf design? Hat tip to the greens keeper of this place. Had staff out today watering the greens with this incredible heat. 5 stars. We will be back!

Thank you very much for such a nice and thorough review.

It is not often that golfers take the time to notice some of the positives that you picked up on. Our grounds crew works hard all year to provide these conditions and thanks for noticing!

Hope we will see you again soon. Please say hello.

Windy and cold... awesome

I am lucky to live close to this gem. Ran over in late afternoon on a cold windy day and got 18 in in less than 3 hrs. Aerated greens but rest of course in great condition. Simply a dream day to start the year. Difficult conditions with the strong winds, but it is linx golf so should have wind.

Clubhouse gentleman was awesome. Helped me with an issue I had with CC. Love this place. Oh, and it was $36. Seriously... why ever go anywhere else.

Not worth the price

For a course that is $130 for a round it gets 3 stars. For that price it better be one of the finest course in the tri-state area and it is not. I play at least once a week and don't play the same course twice if I can help it.

I have played this course before but the prices have gone crazy in the last few years. The views are spectacular. The fairways are in great condition. The greens were aerated, but still in pretty good condition considering. But the layout is pretty weak. There are many holes where hitting a 200yrd or less drive is the ideal position. This might seem great for some, but not for a course that boasts as a premier track. I'm not a crazy long hitter either. Too many holes felt like gimmicks to fit the topography. Making 27 holes out of a layout that could have been an amazing 18 hole is a lost opportunity. If the cost was $85 then the rating would be higher, but for half the price you can play Architects which is light years better. And for just slightly less you can play Wild Turkey or Balleyoween which are expensive but there are no gimmick holes and worth the price.

Great as usual

Brought a few friends here for their first time and they were very impressed with the course. I have played here 4 times and have been trying to get these CC guys to this public course for years. Well, they regretted the fact that it took so long for us to make it happen.

Course was in great shape, even though the bunker renovation has started which meant on 2&18 balls were considered ground under repair, and greens were good too. They liked that each hole was unique and that there were no "throw in holes" which are typical on public courses.

You have 3 more fans how are already planning their next trip up from the shore.

Only blemish was the starter who could not have been more obnoxious to a group of guys who had done nothing but walked up to the first tee to start a round.

Worth the wait

I try and play a new course each week during the season. Yes, I have played some multiple times, but just the best ones. Well, this was my first trip and certainly will not be the last. Not an easy course and I had an experience playing partner who guided me around. Without a guide it would have been a very tough first trip. Pace was great for a Saturday and the course was in great shape. Greens were true and a bit slow. Fairways were well maintained. Front 9 is tight and much more unforgiving verse the back. Course suggestion would be to swap front to back. Will speed up play since there is no range and you step right up to a few demanding drives right out of the gate without getting any rhythm. Slows pace as people hit first shots of the day. Outside of that, course is wonderful and a great challenge. Not a beginner course!! You will hate the game of golf. But, better players, this is a place to test your shotmaking skills. Loved it!

Awesome

Ok, well I had a 7:40 tee time on a Monday morning. The course was empty and the woman in the pro shop and the starter were beyond helpful and friendly. Giving me great advice on the course since it was my first time around.

The first 5 holes are great and challenging. The rest of the course is great yet not as difficult. I can see why people complain about the pace of play here because if there are foursomes who are mid to high handicappers, this course eat them alive on the front side. Not to mention the water and carries on the back side.

Overall the course conditions were excellent. The greens were sandy and slow but that is to be expected this time of year. The rest of the course was in A+ condition. Loved it! Will be back many times more!

It is September

Played tonight for $40. 18 holes in 2.5hrs. Can't beat that. Greens are aerated and pretty rough. For $40 can't complain. Just want others to know before making reservations. Course is overall in great shape.

Good track to work on your game

Long course that has wonderfully maintained green. Outside of that, this is a working course. Working on your game for when you play a nice course.

Played late Sunday afternoon and starter sent me off to #2 to start bc two foursomes of the slow playing kind were about to tee off. Wow, that was great. Played by myself for entire round and finished in less than 3 hours. Hitting multiple balls into greens from different positions, just as the single in front and the one behind did.

Tees were pretty terrible in spots but not all. Fairways were hard as rock since we haven't had rain but the bad part is that they were cut like a short rough.

Anyway, the greens were very very nice and well kept. Pretty fast and definitely ran true. What more can you ask for from a $33 round of 18 in less than 3 hours? Plus I figured out a few issues with my swing with all of the on the course practice time. I will be back. Maybe early in the season next year.

Not great, but not bad

This was my first trip to the Whitney Farms GC and I won't be back. I won't be back bc of the distance from my home (1.75hrs) and although it is a decent course, it is not remarkable.

I read the reviews of the course on the site and decided to make the trip. The course as you pull in looks like any course you have been to. The staff was awesome as I called about an hour before I arrived because my gps said I had 1 hour left on my ride and my tee time was in exactly 1hr. Asked to be moved back and Billy the pro said no problem.

I was paired with a great guy who is a regular and he talked me through every angle of the course. The shining star of this golf course are their greens. They are in excellent shape and were above average speed and ran true. Really great undulations and deceptive reads galore. However, the fairways and tees were average at best. The layout is nothing special and many holes are not inspiring at all. The course can be tight on many holes with OB running on both sides. Add in the hard fairways and drives that landed on the edge of the fairway ended up OB was frustrating to say the least. Bunkers were well kept and sand was soft.

Overall, if I lived much much closer I would be back, but for a "destination" course, this is not one of them for me.
