Wolfdancer Golf Club
Played On 01/25/2020Slow, Slow, Slow!!!
4 hours 58 minutes to complete 18 holes. It is simply absurd. The group in front of us had two holes (at least) open in front of them for the entire back nine. No marshal? Really?
Also - this is a resort course. There were at least three pin placements that were just ridiculous. What's the point of placing a pin 8 paces on at the bottom of a downgrain slope? You could read the ProV-1 on my playing partner's ball as it trickled along the edge on the cup only to roll out all the way past the flag and off the green. Silly.
Hill Country Golf Club - Lakes/Creeks
Played On 07/14/2019This is a resort???
I cannot imagine being a paying guest at this "resort" course. The condition of the course is on par with any mid-range daily fee facility.
This starter is notorious - easily the worst, most ineffective and rude starter at any resort in Central TX. Clueless and obnoxious is a bad combo. By the way - my name is right on your sheet. No need to refer to me as "you."
I played Lakes to Creeks. Lakes is far superior to the scruffy Creeks. Lakes is a better layout as well.
The practice facility is quite good - kudos there.
Nice pro shop with friendly, engaging personnel - how this starter fits in with this otherwise outstanding group is a mystery.
Pros: Excellent pace of play. Great practice area. Fine pro shop.
Cons: Average layout. Mediocre conditions. Shabby greens
Lake Travis Country Club
Played On 07/06/2019Goat Pasture
The courselay dormant for at least a couple of years. Now, an investor has shown up with big plans to turn the place around. I hope they succeed - i doubt that they will.
The layout is shaky to begin with. They need evey bunker replaced (which I am told is in the works. The greens and tee boxes are very, very poor. Weeds and crab grass riddle the fairways. Cart paths are crumbling.
All in all, this is a real goat pasture.
Time will tell if these new owners can turn the place around but it is seriously doubtful.
We will fix all the issues you've talked about in this review in due time. The course has been closed for two years and step by step we will turn this course into a gem. We hope you continue to come out and see our progress.
Roy Kizer Golf Course
Played On 06/19/2018Putz in The Pro Shop
I showed up at 12:40 for a 1:12 time in the rain. No one around. A dozen players out on the course. The sour puss in the pro shop tells me that I have to wait to see if his other 1:12 shows up. "I'll call you - just don't leave until you hear from ME." says the big-shot.
All to save a cart. Of course, the other guy doesn't show - the rain is steady now. So I slog around 18 holes in rain growing heavier by the minute. 2 hours 50 minutes. It would sure have been nice to have those extra 32 minutes at the beginning of the round.
Salado Del Rio at Fort Sam Houston Golf Course
Played On 06/02/2018Crusty Greens
The greens were aerated, sanded and, evidently, left to bake w/o any water. They were roughly as firm as the parking lost though quite a bit bumpier.
The layout is nice enough and the overall condition about what you'd expect.
Nice folks in the pro shop and excellent pace of play (4 hours, 5 minutes on a Saturday)
Quail Creek Country Club
Played On 03/04/2016Stay away! Cow pasture.
What a dump!
Tee boxes are overgrown and appear not to have cut in weeks The fairways can hardly be referred to as such. They're barely distinguishable from the rough replete with weeds, large bare areas and weeks old divots.
The greens are absurdly slow, more suitable to croquet than putting.
The Club at Rebecca Creek
Played On 01/03/2015Stay Away!
This is a goat pasture - and that is actually an insult to goat pastures. Tee boxes and fairways are pockmarked monstrosities. Two greens were completely unplayable (staff advised that they were being overseeded)- but no temporary greens in place? Those two putting surfaces need not overseeding but, rather, resurfacing entirely. The remainder of the greens were acceptable.
There is nary a sand hazard on the course giving the place a scruffy, undefined look even from afar.
BTW - I have never before seen a sevensome playing before - and fivesomes seemed not unusual at all.
All in all this was a miserable experience.
Wolfdancer Golf Club
Played On 12/14/2014Best track in Austin area
Wolfdancer is easily the best course in the Austin are that is open and available to the general public. Service is outstanding - every person on staff is friendsly, enthusiastic and helpful. You'll be treated royally here.
The course is wonderful, especially the more difficult front nine.
La Cantera Golf Club
Played On 11/08/2014Sweet track
Some challenging shots but not intimidating. Lovely views, especially of the amusement park adjacent. Great, first class staff. 4 hours and 1 minute to complet a Saturday round - not bad in this day and age. The wild turkeys all over the place are pretty cool.
Bluebonnet Hill Golf Club & Range
Played On 03/16/2014Speedy Round
I have played this track at least a dozen times during the past year and a half and haven't spent more than 3:40 on a round yet. Yes, that includes weekends.
Look for the bobcat that occasionally makes an appearance alongside #10 tee.
Falconhead Golf Club
Played On 8/14/2013Almost, but not quite
Greens are on the edge of poor. They were froggy and slow and several had large areas that were unplayable. Fairways and tee boxes, for the most part, are fine. The second hole might be the toughest 4 par in town. Eight is the signature hole and is certainly unique and picturesque. However, they have stuggled with this green for a couple of years now. The entire left side and back of the green are burnt out.
Eighteen is a tough finishing hole. All in all, above average for a daily fee course. Avoid it on weekends, unless you enjoy spending over five hours to complete an eighteen hole round.
Jimmy Clay Golf Course
Played On 3/3/2013Greens are shot
This is an interesting layout but conditions, even for a muni, are poor.
Grey Rock Golf Club
Played On 12/11/2012Pretty sweet little course
Grey Rock is a pretty course. Greens rolled true and quicker than any of the other Austin area courses I've played, including Falconhead, Kizer, Riverplace and Forest Creek lately. The sand traps are the only downside. I don't know what they're filled with but it is unlike anything you've ever seen on a golf course. Ugh.
Visit Grey Rock - by the way, after playing through a foursome on number 4, our threesome completed a Sunday afternoon round in just under 3:15.
Roy Kizer Golf Course
Played On 10/5/2012Pure muni
Typical central TX muni. Wide open - you can hit your teeball just about anywhere, go get it and still be in the hole.
Don't expect much in the way of refinement. Watch out for domestic animals. That's right - dogs! During our round, the group behind has a pair of black labs tagging along - in fifty years of playing golf all over the country, that was a first for me.
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We are going to pass on your feedback to the teams in charge so they can work to make changes. Thanks for visiting Hill Country Golf Club - The Oaks Course. We hope you reconsider returning for another round in the future.
