Worth the money

Due to some terrible weather around Colorado earlier in the weekend, I was able to get a tee time at Overland Park on Sunday.

It was a cool morning, but coming from a higher elevation it seemed perfect to me.

I have played a few rounds around Colorado up to this point in the year, but Overland Park definitely had the fastest greens and best conditions up to this point. The pace of play was fantastic and the course is unique in some ways. The layout feels very classic and there are some good views of downtown Denver.

I played the tips and would say the length was perfect for my level, 10 handicap. I would like to come back and play again now that I am a bit familiar with the course.

I would recommend this course to the average golfer and plan to get back when I am able to this summer.

Good course

I was a little hesitant after reading some recent reviews of this course, but it it still early in the year and I'm trying to see a variety of courses.

Buffalo Run has a good practice set up. You get your cart and go to the range/practice area, which is also right by the first tee. I was able to get a full warm up and be right there when it was my tee time.

The course itself played as I would expect from most front range municipal courses at this time of year. A lot of good play with the occasional ground under repair or places where you may need to move your ball a foot or two.

The greens were very slow for what I have been playing lately. They look very good other than a few patchy areas, I'm guessing I caught the course trying to grow them out just a touch before they get cut down. Reads were good, but I would love to play them when they are quick.

Overall I really enjoyed the course, it had a links feel with some dangerous pot bunkers, a variety of challenging holes and great weather.

Worth the Trip

I was pleasantly surprised by how good the course played for this time of year. There were ground under repair areas that were well marked with plenty of drop space, this was very rare on the course.

I arrived 45 minutes early, staff was great at walking me through everything. Range and practice areas were perfect and in good shape.

I got the hot deal but opted to walk 18, I wish I could do a walking hot deal, but it is what it is.

As is with Trent Jones designs, the layout of the course was challenging and full of well placed hazards. A lot of aggressive shots were available, but you were always flirting with disaster, so I kept to playing a conservative game with thought out approaches.

The spacing of groups was great, it was a breath of fresh air to be on a course where you didn't feel like they were just cramming in as many groups as they could, we finished our round in just over 4 hours with not rush or hold ups.

I will be coming back to Ute Creek again and want to bring my friends along with me.

Good bang for the buck

As a Summit County Local who has seen the condition things are in, this course offers way more than what you would get there in 2020. Awesome greens with great speed, green course and not overly busy. If you can deal with driving a little further than summit for a mountain course I would highly recommend.

Classic style

I felt like I was back home on an old style course in upstate New York. Very green course with big mature trees lining the rough. The course played exceptionally well and the greens were in great shape.

You will want to keep it straight and in the fairways, I ran into trouble any time I got it in the trees, sometimes it is best to just get it back out in the clear.

I will definitely try to get back here with friends in the future even with it being quite a ways from where I live.
