Inniscrone Golf Club
Played On 09/24/2016Great challenge, nice layout
Played this course while in town visiting my brother and was both of our first times playing it. I'm not sure what the other reviewers experienced in the clubhouse, but the staff was more than friendly with us when we arrived and checked in. The pro seemed very happy to have us and gave us all the information we needed about the course before going out.
The course itself was in overall great condition. The greens were challenging, but rolled true and all of the sand traps (thankfully only found myself in one) were all well groomed and filled with sand. There are some really tough bunkers too, some maybe 7+ feet deep. The course itself is a nice challenge for weekend players like myself. I like that many of the par 4s require less than driver and make you really strategize before teeing off. However, bring your golf GPS app to this course--there are some blind tee shots that can be misleading if you don't know where you're going. With a 138 slope rating from the tips, this course obviously has some undulation and elevation changes, but nothing obnoxious that I can recall. But as with all challenging courses, you'll be rewarded for good tee shots and punished for poor ones.
I also was told by our playing partner that the course was designed by the same guy who designed the Rio Olympics course, which I thought was pretty cool.
Really enjoyed our round and hope to get back to the course next year when visiting my brother!
Darby Creek Golf Course
Played On 09/12/2015Good course, terrible pace
Staff could not be friendlier or more helpful, had only great interactions with them. Course was in great shape and pretty challenging, but fair. I liked the open and hilly layout of the course. Only negative was there were no rangers on the course to keep pace moving. One foursome a few groups ahead was playing appalingly slow--we all know how that goes, just no golf courtesy or etiquette, standing around on greens and waiting too long to take their shots. Took over 2.5 hours to finish our front nine and when we realized that it was literally a bottleneck of 2 or 3 groups being held up, I asked if we could just play the front nine again since it looked like no one was going off anytime soon. Friendly staff allowed us off the front again and we finished the same nine in about 1.25 hours, making it clear that we had some pace issues on the course.
Besides the mildly infuriating pace, I think this was a pretty good value. Will definitely be back at some point, it's not like they can entirely help pace issues.
We thank you for playing at Darby Creek Golf Course and happy to hear you enjoyed the course and found good value in playing it. We hear you on the pace of play issue and understand it can be frustrating we have informed our staff regarding this and hope to rectify the situation on your next round. Looking forward to your return visit!
Lakeside/Meadows at Shaker Run Golf Club
Played On 06/22/2014Very nice course...amenities, not so much
First time playing this course and I was very impressed with the excellent condition of the course. The course is right on a man-made lake so I don't think watering the course is ever an issue. Fairways were in good shape and greens were very fast.
A couple of things seemed to be missing from the club, though. Firstly, the pace of play was pretty dang slow. Not once did we see a ranger moving around the course or pushing people along--it's always frustrating to be pulling up to a tee box and the foursome in front of you is lollygagging on the fairway ahead of you.
I also found it odd that there were no trash cans, water, or ball cleaners on any of the tee boxes on the course. Our playing partner mentioned that to the starter since he had played the course before and he said he thought it was because they wanted to "give the course a more open feel." That's almost laughable--it was like 90 degrees out and although it didn't affect my round and it was better than having bad course conditions, it would have been nice to have the water for sure.
Another weird quirk about the course is all the flags are all BLACK...meaning that if there is a wooded area behind the green, you have a really tough time seeing the pin. There were a couple times coming in from our second shot that it was really tough to tell where the pin was located.
All in all, pretty nice course and decent club--but for $65 greens fees one would surely expect some of those simple niceties that even municipal courses provide.
So glad you enjoyed the course conditions, layout and design. We can't wait to see you again soon! Glad you found the course a challenge.
