Lima never disappoints

Great deal on golfnow. I was looking to pay easily around 60, minimum with Monday being a holiday. 26 bucks was a no brainer.

I can’t remember if I have ever reviewed Charleston Pines before. I know I have Island Oaks. If you haven’t play that course yet, play it soon. I personally enjoy that one more, out of the two.

If you have played Island Oaks before, however, not yet Charleston Pines, it’s honestly quite the opposite of IO.

First, the course was in good shape for June. Greens are very, well, green, lol. No dead patches.

Same with the tee boxes. They are watered well. I didn’t have issues getting my tee in the ground. They have fair amount of divots in them and some are still uneven.

So compared to IO, Charleston is way more open. Charleston has a fair amount of rolling fairways. Not huge, though prevalent on several holes, ex. Hole # 9.

Charleston is a good course to build confidence. Whether you’re newer, and are still working on consistency; or a more regular golfer, looking to rebound some, following a bad outing, or wanting to work on some mechanics, before a tournament.

Charleston is a very forgiving course, especially for driving and fairways. Putting, it becomes a little more challenging. There are several crowned greens. Multiple greens are narrow with a fair amount of guarding. 2-3 have incredibly steep inclines; shelfs; tiers; slops, however, you like to describe them.

Although open, there are some “L” and some “lazy dog leg” holes on this course. Making most holes differentiate enough from one another. However, the holes are not quite as unique as IO, such as hole 2 - Par 3. There is not a ton of elevation change. Though it does exist most significantly on holes 1, 10, 18.

There are some nice areas of water on Charleston. Though, you have that with IO as well.

Although not my preferred out of the two, still a wonderful course to play, at Lima country club.

If you ever get food at the turn, or at the club house restaurant, don’t forget about the Maggie’s Sauce! It’s so good, you won’t regret it. Best part, you can buy a jar from the restaurant when you discover how amazing it is.

Beef patties at the turn grill are good size / good quality 👍🍔

Full Fall Colors in Play

Such a beautiful time of season to play. . .

Just keep that in mind if you used colored balls. Easy to lose.

Soft fairways, (you’ll get under your shots).

Finally, slow greens. Give it a little extra!

Get a round in before the season is over!

Love playing here. Even had a chance to play a couple holes with some of the staff. . . Jack and Bill. Great guys. I asked them how often they play here. They replied: “2 to 3 times each week.”

If the employees play the course that often, I’m not one to disagree with them.

If you have never been, I highly recommend this course.

Perfect Fall Golf

Course is in very good condition. The cut was very nice. As well, very scenic. The colors are going to be even more vibrant, in the coming weeks.

The greens were very fast.

Just keep in mind, not to play with a colored ball, as it may get lost in the leaves.

Pace of play was pretty good. I had to only wait at two tee boxes for a few moments, however, finished 18 in under three hours.

The pro shop and club house, are amongst some of the best. The club house has a beautiful, wrap around bar. Overlooking hole 10 on Island Oaks.

The carts leave some to be desired. Otherwise, great value. This was one of my free rounds. Thanks GolfNow! Honestly, you guys should market some testimony from these free rounds. I’m sure you would get a lot of great stories.

New management, trending upward!

Chili was always known for it’s incredible pro shop, even before the new management took over.

However, they’re really doing wonders for the course itself. Including being on GolfNow way more often than in the past.

Plus, it’s the little things that make a golf outing rememberable. The free, wooden tees in the golf carts. Very nice touch. I’m very impressed with what I’m seeing.

The course conditions are some of the best I have ever seen. It’s no surprise I shot the best I ever have here, today. The cut work is masterful.

I’ll be booking another round soon through GolfNow!!!

Rain, rain, go away, . . . But thank you!

As I’m writing many of my reviews these past couple of weeks. Thanks to Mother Nature, all of the local courses, including this one, are in some of the best conditions I have ever seen, this late into the season.

Pros: tee boxes, fairways, roughs, fringes, and greens are all well cut.

Pro-shop is doing more than just golf, introducing, or at least promoting the sport in different ways with the “fling stix” and with nighttime glow golf.

Bunkers were raked recently and in pretty nice shape. Not that I went in any, however, my buddy, said they were nice. lol

Average: carts, nothing to write home about, however, get you to where you want to go.

Cons: I wish the flags were a little easier to spot placement. Not a clear way to tell if they’re font, middle, or back, on the greens.

Some of the tee boxes are pretty uneven. Though, I have seen worse.

Wet season is doing wonders for the courses

Some of the best conditions I have seen from Batavia Country Club. The heavy rains these past few weeks are playing their part in helping all of the region’s courses, staying soft & green.

I haven’t stopped at the bar this season at Batavia. However, I have several times in the last two years and it is very nice, as well, pretty well stocked.

Finally, Batavia has, (in my opinion), the nicest, non GPS golf carts. Very plush, very nice indeed!

Take a drive to play both of these courses

Very good conditions this season. I think the added rain has helped. Only rough spots are some of the tee boxes hadn’t been cut in a little while.

Club house / restaurant are among the best for courses in the neighboring area.

One thing leaving some to be desired are the carts.

Otherwise, amazing courses, with great views.

Island Oak has tighter shoots and narrow fairways.

Charleston Pines is very open, a little more water hazards.

Exceptional Value

This is typically an excellent option on GolfNow.

Whether you live, or travel to the Rochester area. If you see Wild Wood as a hot deal on GolfNow, it’s a safe bet you’ll be wowed by the value of the deal listed.

Wild Wood is a very well maintained course. It’s not quite on the top tier of courses in the area, (Ravenwood, Deerfield, Greystone). However, it’s only slightly below those courses, and you’ll pay substantially less to play here.

This is a traditional style course, (compared to a links course) such as Ravenwood, Greystone, or Mill Creek. However, you usually have enough room incase you go into the rough, to have a decent look / punch shot, back into the fairway.

Though, there def are a good amount of both water and sand hazards throughout the course.

The couple areas I feel this course could improve a tad on, are the sand bunkers, (racked though are lacking sand currently, and the at turn kitchen). Nothing bad, though a little dated.

Though, don’t let those minor details scare you off as I would much rather play two rounds here, compared to one of the other courses I have listed.

The pro shop and bathroom amenities are very nice!

Under Construction

I’ve played Mill Creek many of times. One of my favorite courses.

I would have gave their amenities a higher rating, however, with the fire they suffered last season. Their kitchen, club house, and bar are all currently under repair.

Though, they did just upgrade all of their carts! No GPS still, however, new carts are always a good thing.

The greens were in good shape. The fairways were another story. Though, it’s understandable with their being next to no shade on the course, being a links course. The sun always burns the course up a little bit.

As always, the views are breath taking, even with it raining today. I can’t wait to see everything when it’s finished!

Always great at Eagle Vale!

One of my favorite courses in the Rochester area.

Great course conditions, great course layout.

The only thing that keeps this is from a clean sweep 5 star rating. The carts could use some upgrading. The only thing I feel this course is lacking is carts with GPS systems. Get those, they maybe my favorite all of Rochester. I have played at Ravenwood and Greystone.

If you never have, play here! You won’t be sorry.

Decent, hidden, nine hole course

Nice course, friendly staff. A little pricy for a nine hole course. Though, had a couple scenic views.

Pace of play was very nice.

Fairways and roughs were cut thoroughly.

Tee boxes were a little uneven.

Greens were average I’d say.

Layout was nice, but left a little to be desired. I feel this way with most nine hole courses though. Good amount of bunkers, very little water hazards. Fairways and shoots are fairly open.

This course is def tucked away a little bit, in the heart of Attica.

I would play again, though, probably, only as a hot deal.

Frequent Visitor

I’ve played this course several times, each season, over the past several years.

It’s one of the best Staples around me, on GolfNow.

This course def plays long, so have your driver & fairways in mid season form, before taking on this course.

They have some of, if not, the plushest golf carts around. The breaks are a little touchy sometimes. The staff is always friendly.

Today, the pace of play was really good, and the course is probably in some of the best conditions I’ve seen, since playing there.

Keep watch for the cows though, they can mess you up, in the middle of your back swing, :0

Need to iron out those mids?

This course really plays like an executive course. Perfect time to tune up those mid irons.

Staff is friendly, and was very polite on the course,(pausing when seeing us getting ready to shoot).

Very good pace of play. When we teed off, the parking lot was over 3/4 full and we had no stoppage in play with the exception of a five minute pause at the turn.

Pro shop / dining area is very nice.

Hidden Gem

I don’t typically play this far South. However, was itching for a new experience.

I and a friend booked a hot deal through the GolfNow app.

Very presently surprised how scenic this course was. Very well maintained. Also, it was a little trickier than we originally thought it would be.

Every hole has rolling hills, so you’re hitting on a slope, more often than not.

Only thing I can’t talk about is the food or the course club house, as we did not go inside.

Though, although a little on the small size. The pro shop is nice.

Only negative is the tee box layout. Very odd and confusing for a first time player.

Def will go making the drive and going back!!

Hello u1070435,

Thank you so much for the 5 star review of Livingston Country Club! We really appreciate you taking the time to leave us such a kind review and terrific insight. The quickness of the greens, the overall slope of the course, and some truly wonderful views of the Genesee Valley all combine to offer a challenging, yet rewarding round of golf, and exemplify the Livingston Experience we pride ourselves on here at LCC.

You'll be happy to know that one of our long-term projects revolves around creating a simplified cart experience, including the addition of additional cart paths with more signage.

Thank you again for leaving such a fantastic review of LCC, we look forward to seeing you again greenside very soon!

Little things make a huge difference

This was my third time playing Mill Creek over the past two seasons. It’s the little things that really make the course a lot of fun to play. The new golf carts, with attached coolers, stocked with complimentary ice and bottles of water on a 80+ degree day are a welcomed addition to my golfing experience. The gentleman at the front desk was very friendly and informed us when a tournament was starting on the front nine so we knew what our pace of play should be. The tavern is nicely stocked with a wide range of liqueurs with top shelf selections, (could benefit from slightly larger portion sizes on the drinks, lol). I only have an average rating on course conditions, but that is a rating for mid July with a long rain drought. The tee boxes and greens are maintained very well. Nice and spongy. Fairways are a little mixed, but again, majority of the courses around Mill Creek such as the county courses, Cragie Brea, Braemar fairways are no where close these conditions. At least I have a decent chance ending up in nice green patches off my drives. Course layout is one of my favorites. One of the more true links courses around the area, with not a lot of trees, but some deep sand bunks and a lot of tall grass outside of the roughs. Finally! Very elevated in which I always enjoy. Beautiful course all around. Grab the hot deal if you see it comes up. Fall and spring rates are very reasonable too.
